What do you do for a living?

For 8 yrs I was a manager at a major gas chain. And we also have a carpet cleaning bus.

i'm a graphic designer/layout artist for 2 super small local parish newspapers. i have to design ads that people want in the paper (the fun part) and i also have to layout the paper and put everything in.

i also have to take b.s. calls of people wanting subscriptions for the paper/send in weeks old school news and deal with a not so nice supervisor.:sad2: (my co-worker gets most of those calls though)

i work in the parish affected the most by the BP oil spill and we're doing a special section for the paper that's going to come out near the year anniversary (week or so). so i've been busting butt spam emailing people that have taken out ads in our 2 papers to get them to advertise in this special section. hate that.

so in addition to the 2 newspapers (one comes out friday, the other tuesday), i do special sections ads for BP oil spill, graduation, shop local (black friday guide to local shops), christmas, orange festival and i heard we're adding a high school sports special section this year.

love getting to be creative, but i think if i continue working there, i'm going to have a breakdown!

i'm thinking of going back to school and i read this thread to get ideas...thanks ya'll!!

I don't know if this has already done, but I thought it might be neat to do. I'm sure like most people on here, we all wonder what some of the people who are DIS do for a living. I've always wondered.

So with that in mind, post what type of work you do or exactly what you do. Be specific or general. Feel free to share as much info as you want to. This would also be a great way to network with others in your field or those people in the field of work you'd like to get into.

I'll start first:

I'm a Crime Scene Investigator for an area police department. And before anyone asks, no it's not like it is on TV.

I really like my job. I respond to all types of crime scenes from simple property crimes to robberies, suicides and murders. I work a lot of hours and often times my work goes unnoticed by the public. We receive a lot of specialty training which does allow me the opportunity to travel to some places I might not otherwise be able to visit.

So go ahead and jump on board!

ooh how interesting! What made you think of this career and how did you get there?

I'm a Fashion Merchandising student, and about to add another major (Digital Retailing).
My current goal is to be a Visual Merchandiser, but this changes weekly.

Right now I have the most boring student assistant job in the world.

I'm a stay at home, homeschooling mama. :)

In the past, I've done all kinds of things.

I as an administrative assistant/front desk specialist for a real estate company. (HATED it!)

I worked at the HelpDesk for a human resource solutions company supporting three payroll systems/software packages.

I managed an answering service.

I worked as a customer service representative for two different telecom companies. (Obviously not at the same time.)

I loooooooooooooove HR work but have tossed around nursing school too. (I'm not sure my immune system would hold up nursing.) I also love to teach. And I'd LOVE to work in real estate but I know that the market is terrible right now. One day I'll make up my mind.

Registered Nurse in a Newborn Intensive Care Unit.

thank you for doing this! It was people like you that saved my son when he was born. I recently looked up his primary nurse on Facebook just to thank her for what she did for us. We were discharged, and in the chaos, I never got to properly thank her for EVERYTHING. She was amazing and held me up through those tough weeks. It takes a very special person to be able to take care of those sick babies...and to take care of the parents, as well..

I am a Graphic Designer. Fell into the job 12 years ago when I was the clerk in the area and the other designer was leaving and it was easier to train me since I had some concept of it all. Not my dream job by any stretch, but it pays well, has great benefits, I love my coworkers, and the company is stable and treats us all very well. I am one credit shy of my Liberal Arts degree - will be graduating this summer! Will continue on in the Fall for my business degree. I just wanted A DEGREE under my belt before my kids realized I didn't have one, lol!

I agree. NICU nurses are heaven sent.

I am a stay at home mom and I sell jewelry online for a little mad money.

The best paying job I ever had though was when I used to do singing telegrams lol those were fun

Another teacher (high school Chemistry) but I would really like to go back to school and get into research.
