What do you do for a living?

I work two jobs, and dh is a long-haul truck driver. My two jobs are:

Merchandiser
Hairstylist

I am currently an unemployed college student. I have two years left for my teaching certificate and am looking for any kind of part-time work to be able to finish my degree. I do volunteer as a tutor at our library and am looking into volunteering at the zoo.

I hope things get better for you soon:sad2: My Dad was a commercial fisherman for many years between the Navy and the Merchant Marines and I know how hard he worked to support our family. He fished George's Bank and all around the Northeast waters. He also shellfished (lobster, scallops, clams) for years as well. In the very cold months he hunted in the Allagash for bear and deer. Recently I read an article that listed commercial fishing as the MOST dangerous job there is.

Thanks :goodvibes

That is terrible, are things getting any better there? I was under the impression things were back to normal, but I guess not? Is it getting better? Almost cleaned up? Interested in the situation. Hope things get better for you.

I believe they dispersed most of the oil, but what affects me(as a commercial fisherman) is that they have yet to open all the waters for harvesting yet. I purchased most of my oyster to process from Miss and La, Miss opened but with a very limited catch allowance(less then 10 sacks per boat). La has yet to open at all, but I am able to purchase a limited amount of sack oysters from Texas. To put in in perspective last year at this time of year I was pocessing about 500-600gals of oysters a week, now I am only able to purchase enough oysters to get maybe 60-70gas a week.

We usually shrimp in the summer months so this whole summer was a bust, but maybe this coming summer will be better(cant' be worse).

Our crab processing plant is closed right now, just seems like a bad year, don't know if the oil drove them to hibernate or what.

But the most aggrevating part of it all is the claims process, our business was down roughly $600,000 due to the spill at the end of the year, Fienberg gave us $1,000 back in Oct, our lightbill was $941 in oct and $825 in Nov, amongst other exp. associated with running a business. Out of all the claims he says he has paid I would venture to guess that 60-70% were to people who had no lossess. I herd the local strip club got $80,000:dance3:

Paul, Sounds like a great life. I hope you can go back to it soon! Sending prayers!

It was, I got to work all day with my dad and older brother. until my grandfather turned ill he would visit us 3-4 times a day.

Retired mortgage loan banker for a large mid-western bank. Thru a stroke of luck, I was able to take early retirement on Jan 3rd and am currently lounging in Fl. (not at WDW, darn it) re-inventing my life and rejoicing that I'm not in Kentucky where the weather is less than stellar :goodvibes

Cook at a prominent fast food chain in North Carolina that's also owned by the Carolina Panthers. Enjoy my job and most of the customers.

Wanted to join the Navy but flunked the physical. :sad1:

I supervise the collections department of our local utility company. I don't normally tell people. ; )

I don't work, we are new to San Diego. I did apply at Legoland for just a fun job and was hired for Admissions … only draw back was the hours … evenings and weekends. Naa, that is the only time DH is home.

DH is Chief of Rail for all rail service for San Diego County.

I am a student majoring in Psychology and looking to eventually go into animal behavior. I am a part-time Kennel Attendant and Front Desk Staff at an animal shelter. As a Kennel Attendant, I work more directly with the animals, cleaning, feeding, assisting customers looking to adopt, and I also get to do a lot of training and socialization with the dogs (not as much as I or the dogs would like, but I do as much as I can between everything else). The front desk is where all the craziness from people happens...I do adoptions and animal intake, answer phones, sell merchandise, assist customers, surgery intake and pickup and about a gazillion other things. Sometimes it's the best job ever, sometimes it's the worst, but it's always interesting!

I also do some dog sitting on the side.

I'm an Online Content Director... translation... I'm put stuff on websites.

I manage a custom woodworking business. We do custom furniture, kitchens, bars, wine cellars, mantles... All solid wood all hand made.
It's a fun job. I get to be creative and best of all I get to bring DD to the office with me.

I'm a kept woman. ;)

I've been a SAHM for 12 years. I dabble in this and that for a little extra cash - freelance writing, crafting, heirloom seedlings, etc - plus I run the office side of DH's construction business and occasionally do some on-site work with him too.

Before that I did tech support, a career to which I have no intention nor desire to return; sitting in an office all day waiting for trouble calls just isn't "me", even if it did leave plenty of time for reading message boards. :rotfl:

I'm retired now, but I used to run a control center for an electric utility company just outside NYC. I was also a part-time musician. Now, I still work as a musician, still part time, but a lot more than before I retired.

I supervise the collections department of our local utility company. I don't normally tell people. ; )

DF is a financial analyst for the local electric company.. he specifically works in forecasting, so he's one of the 4 jerks that determines how much they're going to hike our rates. He normally doesn't tell people, either. :lmao:
