What do to with old MB?

I'm worried about throwing them away, don't they have personal info on them? But I don't really need them (considering we have 6 of them and more on the way...). Can I just trash them? Should I try to cut them up? That sounds dangerous...

There is no information stored on the MagicBand except for a unique band id number. The MagicBand is tied to your MDE profile using that band id.

They are designed to be reusable for many vacations.

As erionm stated, there is no personal information on the MagicBands. If it makes you feel more at ease, you can always deactivate a MagicBand that is no longer in use. Sign on to My Disney Experience and click on "Manage Bands', then choose the MagicBands you want to deactivate.

Are you never going again? If you are, you take it back with you and re-use it.

I'm definitely going again... But I really only need one (not 6). I thought I might keep a few? Plus, I have a feeling they'll be sending more for our May trip. So I guess the question should have been, what to do with extraneous MBs. Sounds like its safe to trash, though... I'm on a 'spring cleaning' kick!!

To be clear, you aren't really deactivating the band, just removing it's access to your account.

The touch feature of the band will work forever and the Wi-Fi feature that requires the battery is designed to work for 2 to 3 years so they can be used on later vacations.

A band not associated to an account poses no security issues.

At some point in the future, if you lose one, you will be charged to replace it. I would not be getting rid of them just yet.

We have 2 sets and are going to get another soon. We live here and do weekends so the MB pile up fast. I asked a CM about this and they said that each person can receive up to 8 in their life time and they are re-usable. So don't throw it away yet. I keep mine packed in the box they came in.

Now the flash drive about the MB program, that's another story. I have 3 of them cause they keep sending me a new one for each ressie. Geez. I don't need those so I'm going to see if they'll take them back when I go in Jan.

I also wouldn't throw any away. At some point they will allow you to refuse new bands and, as Sammie said, eventually they will charge for replacements. I have been ordering a new color each time I get one. I now have the complete set of 7 so I hope they add some new colors before I go again. ;0)

I bought some chain-type key rings and put each person's MBs on one. They have a small, plastic part that holds a label so I put each person's name in that. It makes it much easier to keep track of them all.

EEK!! They sent DH 2. The 2nd one was the one that was set up correctly on our account. They told us to toss the 1st one. He is the type of guy who likes to know how things work so he cut it apart to look inside. :headache: Not much to see. Hope we don't have need of it in the future.

I wonder if MBs could be stored in the Owner's Locker between visits? That would minimize storage/clutter at home, risk of "forgetting it" in the rush to the airport, etc.

Any pitfalls on that approach?

Please see post 13 below for a well thought out real world answer.

If you don't get your Owner's Locker until after you are in your room, you might have a bit of a problem. Keep in mind that you can use your MagicBands to get on the Magical Express, and you'd probably need your MagicBands when you check in at the resort and to unlock the door to your villa.

Excellent points, I take my post back. :thumbsup2

If anyone really wants to get rid of a band you can remove it from My Disney Experience and then destroy it. Just take it out on the sidewalk or wherever and whack it good with a hammer. Primitive but effective, it should destroy the electronics inside of the band, then toss it away. :badpc:

You could do that but why bother?

You have to use them at Magical Express, too? Oh, bummer. That seems like serious overkill.

Ok - thanks!

bwvBound (wondering how quickly I'm gonna lose this silly idea; refuses to wear it on my wrist ... and guessing it won't fit flat like a creditcard in my pocket ... UGH.)

I used to wear my watch through a belt loop because I couldn't stand it on my skin. Also possible to hook it through buttonholes, around belt/fannypack or on purse/backpack straps (careful with that one, though).

LOL -- thanks for the creative ideas. Mine is likely to end up at the bottom of a purse somewhere. Most likely, I'll leave mine behind (in the room) and rely on my DH to wear his for room access.

If you only get 8 in your lifetime, what happens when you get them all within a year.....and they only last 2-3 years?

I never got a flash drive :(
