What did WE celebrate? .. 30 days of Disney fun and food! Update 04/02

I don't get notifications...I just check to see if it is "highlighted" in my subscribed threads. :confused3

We could just blame Nicki because I've spent so much time over on her thread. :lmao::lmao::lmao:

:woohoo::woohoo::woohoo::woohoo: for CSR upgrade. I am so happy for you and so glad you loved it enough to go back. I would ask for Cabanas 8A...close to the main pool, a short walk to the main building and close to a bus stop. They've announced that Casitas 1 and 2 and Cabanas 9A and 9B will be "preferred" buildings beginning January 1.

:woohoo: Now that was a quick reply!

I didn't know about any preferred buildings at CSR! But I guess I will call again and just ask them to make a note of a request for Cabanas 8A! I love the short walk to the main building idea as we want to take advantage of the restaurants much more this time. Main pool is a definite :thumbsup2 but I am not worried about bus stops! ;) I am kind of "allergic" to Disney buses! :rotfl2: They drive me nuts, we always use our car! ;)

I just posted a Kona Review too and had some of the same issues - mostly good food but lacking in some service areas!

I know the rain is a bummer while at Disney, but I love the photo taken at OKW of the lake area while it's raining. It looks pretty!

I just went over to your thread to check it out and post a comment. We had really similar experiences at Kona!

Since we always travel during the summer season we need to be prepared for the rain and I actually don't mind it too much. Makes for a nice excuse to go back to the resort and kick back for a while! ;)
At OKW we actually love sitting on the balcony watching the rain - it is such heavy rain, so different from what we get here, so we kind of enjoy even the rain!

Love the Kona review! I am trying to focus on trying as many new restaurants next trip as possible but I am drooling over Kona so now I don't know what to do!

Looking forward to more!

Still Day 9, August 22

Dinner at the Kona Cafe

IMG_6075.jpg

I ordered the Coconut Almond Chicken - sauteed chicken breast served with Asian greens tossed with honey-lime dressing, golden pineapple, strawberries, and toasted almonds. I had had this before and had loved it and I loved it this time around too!
The chicken was slightly sweet from the coconut, but it was moist and nice and I loved the fact that it came with a salad with a light dressing and lots of fruit in it!
The only thing that looked really peculiar was how it was plated! :rotfl2:

my fiancee was just looking on the boards and said he found my new favorite dish! he shows this to me...

i'm allergic to almonds, coconut, pineapple and strawberries

i'm like thanks babe... that dish would send me to the ER in 30 seconds :rotfl2: i better update my beneficiary before my next trip :happytv:

he's just hilarious. glad you enjoyed it!

Hi Karen great Kona review !!Toms steak looked delish !!Your chicken looked great too butmI don't like coconut so would notm order that !!Have to say Tom's dessert wins my choice again !!! I thought that banana looked a little too dark !!:rotfl2: I am adding Kona to my next SOLO trip !!The family might enjoy it but there are just so many other places they would like more like CHARACTER Meals ;) I am also dying to try the Breakfast there in particular The BIG KAHUNA!!!!!

Nice review of Kona. everytime I read a review of it, I am tempted to change our ADRs around, but we're doing O'Hana, which I think is much more Max's speed. Its bad enough that I'm subjecting the poor kid to Jiko and California Grill! Oh the horror! :lmao: Just something else for the "someday" list. :goodvibes

Welcome back :)

Loving the updates, a great lunch and dinner at the Poly. I was in two minds about the coconut chicken when we ate there, but yours looks delish may just have to try that for next year :teeth:

Great Kona review. We've never been there (we were at the old place many moons ago and missed our Kona breakfast there in September). I hate when they seat people BEFORE you when they are walk-ups...one of the MANY reasons we won't go back to Whispering Canyon Cafe.

:woohoo: for going to surprise your parents on their trip! What a fun idea! They are going to love your surprise! Are you leaving the family at home or are all of you going?

Nope--just me, so the kids are going to be less than happy. I've set aside some cash to buy some Christmas presents back to ease the pain. They don't know about it yet.....they'll kill me! (That's also why I asked you for the link to the pre-order for the Photopass CD. THANKS!!!!:lovestruc)

We have always loved the food there, breakfast, lunch and dinner, but I was more than disappointed with the wait and service.
More coming right up!

:scared1: ........... you better watch out! :lmao:

I really enjoyed the dish - I guess you would not so much! ;)

Yes, that steak has never failed to impress! He has had it a few times now and has always loved it.
The banana was definitely burned. Tom had the Big Kahuna in February and loved it! It was delish - I had the Samoan and it was yummy too! (Reviews are in my Hakuna dining review!)

I would keep Ohana, Tina. Kona is real nice, but it is "just" a restaurant. I guess Max will love Ohana and all the games they have the children involved in!
When are you going to Jiko and California Grill? I think we will be at the CG on Monday! :goodvibes

Welcome back :)

Thank you!
We usually have an ADR at Kona when we are at WDW. It was just a coincidence that we actually ate at Captain Cook's AND Kona at the same day! ;)
I've had the chicken before and really enjoyed it both times. It is so nice it comes with a refreshing salad instead of a heavy side.

Thank you!
I really got ticked off when I noticed people without an ADR (and our party size) being seated before us! What's the use of going through the whole hassle of making ADRs when they don't honour them in the end.
We had the same thing happening to us a year ago when we were a table of 7!! Only after we inquired twice after more than an hour's wait did they squeeze us all onto a 6 top! :sad2:

Your sons are so going to like it ............... NOT!!!!!!!!!!! But I guess the Christmas presents will do the trick! ;)
Did I send you the link for the photopass CD? I think so, but I can't remember for sure! :confused3

Day 10, August 23

Lunch at Wolfgang Puck's Express

Since we had gotten back to the room early in the morning after EMH we needed to sleep in a little.

We were up and ready by 10 the next morning and decided to skip breakfast and have an early lunch instead.

Where should we go? Hmmmmmmmm,

what about

.................

Wolfgang Puck's Express for a change! :rotfl:

We drove to DTD, parked the car and walked over to the restaurant. I had seen photos of the meatloaf on Rosie's thread and was determined to try it myself. So that was what I ordered.

IMG_6126.jpg

Bacon Wrapped Meatloaf - mashed potatoes, port wine sauce and crispy onion rings.
To put it in a nutshell - this was :cloud9:
I don't usually order meatloaf, but this one was well spiced and very good. It had a crispy outside from the bacon and the mash was creamy and tasty. I lvoed the port wine sauce and there was plenty of crispy onions, which added a nice crunch to the dish. I would order it again in a heartbeat.

IMG_6130.jpg

Tom had the Pennette Chicken Alfredo - peas, bacon and parmesan. Again, he had had it before and it did not disappoint. The sauce was tasty and the chicken moist. The portion size was HUGE!!!! This can easily be shared!

There is no question what we ordered for dessert!

IMG_6132.jpg

My favourite Creme Brulee! Lovely and creamy and we both enjoyed every little spoonful we gobbled down! ;)

Once we were full we drove over to Animal Kingdom for a bit of Safari fun and to meet the Yeti!

Price breakdown:
DDP - 24 credits to start with
WPE .... $ 47,20 (2 CS credits)
TS credits left - 8
CS credits left - 4
Snack credits left 13

Overall money spent on DDP: $ 943,10

Next up - dinner at Kouzzina

Drooling in Aisle 1, drooling in Aisle 1. :lmao::lmao::lmao:

That Pennette Chicken Alfredo looks right up my alley and I am NOT missing WPE next trip if it is the ONLY place I go (Nicki, are you paying attention?).

That penne looks gooood and those creme brulee's :teeth:

:rotfl2:

I stole a few bites from Tom and they were sooooooooooo good! You should really try WPE next time you go to WDW ......... yum food, servers who bring out your food :cloud9: and even refill your drinks! What else can you want! ;)

If we do meet up in Florida we must all go to WPE for dinner or lunch, as the food really does look good :goodvibes

glad you enjoyed the meatloaf !!! We were the VERY first ever to have it !!We ate lunch there the day it was put on the menu and the CM suggested it and I like you am not a meatloaf orderer on the DDP BUT for a CS meal it was absolutely astounding !!! The creme brulee is always my dessert at WPE!!:cloud9:

What a fun idea! I am counting down the days until I can sink my teeth into another one of their sandwiches on the day we arrive in February!
Only 87 more days! :woohoo:

I saw it on your review, Rosie and knew I had to try it! And it did not disappoint! Since we were there when they had just changed from breakfast to lunch and it was really fresh and tasty!
And we both LOVE the Creme Brulee. Even though I have to admit that their brownies are wonderful too! The server who remembered us gave us a free one when we left and it was moist, soft and chocolatey! :thumbsup2

Karin, that meatloaf looks fabulous. I have GOT to try that sometime....in fact, we were just discussing what to do for dinner tonight. :rolleyes1
