Museums are too far away and it's too cold for the zoo. Besides having friends over or going to a movie, does anyone have any fun or creative things they're doing with or for their tween?
Mine is working as a helper at a begginers horse camp for three days. It's hard work, but she loves it. The other days we will probably go to the movies, go hiking and do some work around the house.
I'm showing my DD how to make a quilt. She wants to learn how to sew, and I want to make a quilt for my goddaughter who's making her 1st Communion, so I'm multi-tasking!

I like the idea of something crafty! DD's currently taking sewing classes but I don't know how (that's why I want her to learn--what a great skill to have); I'll have to check out the fabric/craft stores to see if there's something we could do together. Maybe one of those no-sew fleece blankets or something.
We made the fleece blankets a couple of years ago. Both DS and DD helped with that project over a winter break. Those are their favorite blankets, they are unbelievably warm and cozy. DS has gotten too big for his to cover him from head to foot, so he wants me to make him another one, I just have to wait for Jo-An's to have a good sale on fleece again.
DD14 has really been into sewing. I have some basic skills but she honestly eclipsed me in just a few weeks. She just gets patterns and reads the directions and looks for tutorials on youtube for things that seem complicated (zipper). Just this month she has made herself two summer dresses from patterns and then made her own pattern for a Hawaiin shirt for her brother (by looking at his shirts). Just buy some cheap material and let your DD experiment--she may not really need lessons
A few other things my kids (12 and 14) enjoy doing when they have time:
putting together "videos" by stringing together photos from a trip with music.
Making stop motion animation movies (they are working on a Smurf movie right now)
Cooking/baking (DS recently perfected creme brulee, DD is working on getting spring rolls just right).
Woodworking (maybe your DD would like to build a birdhouse from a kit to put out for the soring weather?)
Mine is on her own for spring break since I am working- I am sure she will go to friends houses or have friends over. I am sure a part of that will be taken up by homework and projects- they get killed with that crap during weeks off from school! Last time it was some big project with poster boards and diaramas-my friend was in Disney trying to get part of it done with her daughter on vacation because the daughter wouldn't have time once they got home to finish it all! Its a shame you can't even go away when school is not in session unless you plan on being home 2 days before they go back to get all the work done!
What's spring break? My kids get two days at Easter and that's it. It will be the first days off they have had since Christmas other than inservice days. They will most likely spend them at my school since we are moving to our new school building that week and I will need to set up my classroom.

Playing multiplayer/live halo Reach marathon matches with several of his classmates! playing computer games, working on some Scout badges, looking for a new bike and cleaning his room- Guess which one is Mom's addition to the list!
One nice thing with boys versus girls is they can play together without having to physically be together
Sending my ds13 to his grandparents (1,500 miles away) for 5 days -- it's a win/win. He gets spoiled by them and they get to see him. I keep thinking I'm going to miss the little darling, and then he says, "Mo-om" in that tone -- you know the one! DH says he's going to help him pack...
mine had spring break last week. Since I had to work most of the week, she spent the first few days with her big brother at his house and then when she came home, we shopped for 2 days! She is leaving on a choir tour in 3 weeks and needed new everything. She is ready to go!
