Greetings! This energetic family of 5, with DH and DW closing in on 50, and DS16, DD14 and DS12, is heading to WDW in March 2016. It's our first Disney experience since 2005, and we're stoked. We're arriving late in the evening of 3/17 for a three-night stay at POR, followed by a Carnival Cruise on the morning of 3/20.

We're hoping for advice on how to get the best value from a one-day theme park ticket.

We think MK is our best option, primarily for it's "Disney-ness." We have our choice of Friday 3/18 with EMH or Saturday 3/19 9a-12a. We think we might like to sleep in the morning after our flight, so we're aiming for the MK rope drop on Saturday. Fortunately, Saturday's MK crowd forecast seems lower than Friday's. Do you folks agree with this line of thought?

We plan to spend Friday relaxing at the resort and enjoying the non-ticketed stuff at WDW. We'd like to do things such as pool-hop between POR and POFQ, dine/bowl at Splitsville, enjoy an dusktime walk around AKL, maybe visit the FW campfire/movie and take in the EWP at CR or Poly. If we've got it right, there seem to be lots of things to do even without park tickets.

We found an MK one-day touring plan on another site. It seems to make sense, but we don't know if the anticipated crowd levels will allow it. Then again, we haven't been at WDW for 10+ years so we know just enough to get ourselves in trouble. We'd love for you folks to take some pokes at it. Thank you!
  • Before lunch: Peter Pan's Flight, IASM, Haunted Mansion, BTMR, Splash Mountain, PoC, and JC.
  • After lunch: Use FP+1 for 7DMT (early afternoon), FP+2 for Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin (mid-afternoon) and FP+3 for Space Mountain (mid-afternoon), then fill the rest of the day with MI, PhilharMagic, CoP, Mad Tea Party, TTA, FFP, MSEP and fireworks.
TL;DR - family needs help strategizing a one-day visit to MK.

I think your Sat. plan sounds pretty good. I would also opt to relax the day after the flight provided you won't be too tired after closing down MK to get to the port and check in there. I have never cruised, but heard it can get crazy!

The only thing about the touring plan I would watch is make sure Space is the mountain you want to use the fp on. Not sure how long the stand by line would be for the others when you get up there. Depending on the time of the evening the Buzz wait might not be long.

Enjoy your visit and cruise!

Sounds good, Just first concentrate on the more popular ones near Rope Drop that you don't have FP for: Peter Pan's Flight, BTMR, Splash Mountain (or change Space Mtn or Buzz FP to Splash), Jungle Cruise
