We've Bounced Back like Tigger SB09 TR NEW 9/11 CLOSING TIME....

Mini- OT Report: ½ way through Summer Vacation for the MouseScrapper Family:

Hope you don’t mind the minor diversion here as I stop w/ Disney and let you know how our summer has been going….

Like most Super Busy!

The kids have been out of school since June 5 and so far we’ve had 2 weekend trips up to Michigan (Sawyer w/ friends & Three Rivers DH’s parents’ lake house); the kids are finishing up 2 weeks of swim lessons tomorrow the 3rd of July and Michael is finishing up a 2 week ½ day outdoor camp. As well he did a 4 day Golf Clinic for special needs kids, Mae did a 2 week ½ day camp and Aldine did a week long all day camp at the local History Center….whew! they have been busy as well as Mom driving them back and forth through town.

As well the Science and Industry Museum in Chicago has a temporary Harry Potter Exhibit going on, my Mom is a member of the Museum so besides free entry and parking she got free tickets for her, my Dad, Matt, Michael, myself and my brother’s fiancé to go together.

I asked Michael to wear his Hogwarts robe (from a Halloween back), plus his glasses he looks like a young Harry indeed!

IMG_0341.jpg

At the beginning of the exhibit before you go in, they have a stool and the sorting hat. A guide picks a few participants to be sorted. And she saw our Harry Potter and he got to sit on the stool

IMG_0338.jpg

He was sorted into Gryffindor, but of course!

And then on Father’s Day we celebrated w/ a hotdog lunch (from one of his favorite hotdog places) at the park. We went to Cantigny park which is close to our home, it is a free park (except for parking) and it has walking trails, gardens, a 1st Division War Museum and the huge draw is all the tanks.

Here is Margaret taking one out for a little spin:

IMG_0419.jpg

Our most recent weekend trip up to MI was eventful and restful, here is a little re-cap for anyone interested:

After picking Michael up from his camp at 3:30 last Friday and brought him home to shower and finish loading the car, I took out the garbage, locked up the house and put the 4 kids plus our dog Maggie in the car (after we had some dinner too) and drove to pick Matt up from work at 5 pm. We headed out on our way from there just before 5:30 pm. Of course we made the same mistake and turned the wrong way to get on the expressway just like we did 2 weeks ago when went up to MI last….duh!

So I’m driving and the things are going quite well, we want to take the Indiana Toll road for part of trip, but needed to pick it up in route vs driving into Chicago to get to it (in Chicago that day a Cub/Sox game just ended and the HUGE Taste of Chicago was beginning plus w/ Friday night in rush hour, not the best time to be heading into the city) DH is pretty sure we’ll find the exit for it w/out much issue…..we’ll see.

As well DH wants to stop at a fireworks store in Indiana to get a few things to shoot off at the lake house; I a bit annoyed w/ stopping, but oh well.

We decide to stop at a bigger place easy off the expressway (Sheltons) but on the way I see an Exit sign for East Indiana Toll Road….

“Is that the exit?” “Quick try and figure it out (using the GPS)!” I say to Matt

He replies “No I don’t think that is the right exit”

Are you SURE!!??!” I say

So we didn’t take the exit, and drive just a few more miles to the fireworks place, when DH announces “UH, I think that was the exit….”

“Great…..:headache:

We make our stop, and lucky me gets to sit in the van w/ Margaret and the dog. They finally make their way out of the store

100_3606.jpg

And DH takes over driving to try and wind our way back. It’s after 7 pm at this point…ick. After a few wrong turns the GPS has us on course hopefully, driving on an Indiana Interstate. The kids are now watching Toy Story 2 and I handed out a few snacks. The kids and I had pizza at home before picking up Matt from work, but he never ate dinner and was hungry, I didn’t have much to offer him, but I could reach a bag w/ the brat buns for dinner on Sat. So yep he’s eating a dry bun …but the laughter soon ended.

We see a sheriff car coming the opposite direction and Matt knew he was speeding

We see behind us the sheriff turn around and start coming up behind us, and sure enough we get pulled over. I’m trying to stay calm and keep my cool as not to get mad at DH.

The sheriff comes up to the car, to report how fast he was going and asks where we are headed. Now that the driving noise has subsided the movie sounded really loud and I’m trying to turn it down and DH feels we need to turn it off, and then of course Michael starts flipping out… scared.

The officer goes back to his vehicle and we wait….

We are just so sure we are going to get slapped w/ a ticket. But by some superb luck he just gives Matt a warning….

We head back out on our way, quite relieved and surprised, I try to nicely forewarn DH no more driving fast…please.

We later comment on why we think he didn’t issue us a ticket?

-out of state, sorta lost

-van packed w/ 4 kids and a dog

-one child obviously distraught and don’t know if this made any difference and not that it should but I have an autism awareness puzzle piece magnet on the back of the van…

-oh and my final thoughts, 1) I had a Cub shirt on, maybe he was a Cub Fan OR 2) he likes Mickey Mouse and saw our WDW license plate holder ;)

Well whatever is was we felt we had some magic w/ us that night despite the grave speeding error on behalf of my hubby.

We finally make our way on to the Toll Road, and then into MI we arrive. As we drive these dark country roads, the movie is over and the kids want to listen to some music. So they request as Disney Classic CD. We are listening to the music enjoying the songs and then the song “I Just Want to be King” comes on and all of us even DH are belting out the chorus together….it was a fun family moment.

We finally arrive well after 9 pm IL time to the house and unload and get the kids to bed.

Despite our eventful and long drive up, we had a very nice and relaxing weekend away just our family of 6. so nice!

Here are some pictures to enjoy:

On Saturday night we had a marshmallow roast and DH rigged a sheet up in the tree and w/ the projector from home we watched Bolt under the stars

Oh and the red itching spots….no not poison ivy…but about 20 mosquitoes bits on my legs and arm.

well, thanks for enjoying a bit of our busy summer so far and hope you all are enjoying yours as well.

More Disney Fun at MK, on Day 5)….

We finally got to MK after a dizzy bus drive and walk…stuffed our belongings in a locker and found my Dad…now to salvage the day’s touring plan:

Up first was straight over to Tomorrowland…and the park was already a bit elbow to elbow crowded in places…the later our trip lasted you could feel more of the Spring Break effect as more states and schools’ began theirs, but it was still doable.

We made our way up to

100_2476.jpg

To take our turn, at how speedy fast we could drive along the Tomorrowland Speedway, this is always a fun favorite, but you certainty have to time it just right during the day because it has HUGE lines and back-ups due to the nature of how the loading and unloading of guests works. We used some assistance to by-pass some of that after finding a spot in the shade for my Mom to hang w/ Margaret in her stroller. We teamed up as so:

Mom (me) and Mae

100_2474.jpg

Aldine and Daddy (Matt)

100_2471.jpg

And Micheal & Ja-Ja (my Dad)

100_2472.jpg

It was an interesting spin around the track and my “other” driving foot and ham string (is that the muscle in your lower calf) was quite tired by the end….why do you have to hold that pedal down so hard? ouch

100_2469.jpg

100_2470.jpg

Plus we saw some back up, up ahead on the track ….what happened, an accident?

I have no idea how this could happen but this is what we saw:

100_2475.jpg

Some poor, slightly embarrassed lady (I’m sure) lost 2 of her wheels and was hand towed all the way back in to the repair shop.

We all had fun and after regrouping w/ my Mom we went over to one of her and the kids’ favorite rides the Mad Tea Party (or as most call it the Teac Cups). It wasn’t that bad of a wait and moved fairly well.

My Dad stood this one out and watched a sleeping Margaret in her stroller.

100_2480.jpg

I do enjoy this dizzy spin of a thrill, but only to a point not to fast please!

100_2478.jpg

100_2479.jpg

100_2481.jpg

100_2486.jpg

100_2482.jpg

After we had our fill of tea in Wonderland, it was time to cool off we some yummy raspberry and lemonade slushies…plus a quick restroom break and diaper change for Margaret as she had woke up. I don’t have pictures of it, but she just loved slurping down those slushies…what a special YUM treat for her at Disney!

Next we decided to head over into Toontown,

mostly because I wanted to capture my newest traditional WDW “growing” picture of the kids in front of Mickey’s house. At the time this was scheduled to be our last tour of MK and I didn’t want to miss out on this….

But it was way to crowded to stop and try and get a decent picture, let alone even move through this area…we made a bad choice here and kinda got stuck in, we maneuvered our way back toward the train station and to the secret path to get out of this very overcrowded icky mess. Does it say anywhere in the tour/tip books to come here at it’s opening, at parade time or end of day…because that is probably very true!

I was sorely disappointed we wouldn’t get the picture…oh well; hopefully I can find another setting somewhere else.

The train was pulling in and Matt and my Dad wanted to stop and take a look at it….I really just wanted to keep moving knowing we had precious little time to get some more MK attractions in that we have not done yet…

Oh well…take one for the train buffs I guess….I should know better :rolleyes1…heck I grew up across the street from the “tracks” and have heard and stared at trains all my life….so I think what's the big deal... but I guess how many times can you see a DISNEY train.

We winded our way back to TL and over to the Monster LF to laugh our bowls full of jelly....

But before that could happen we had a Little Trouble in Mike’s World getting in….the first queue line was entering the 2nd holding area, which was good for us, since Michael can’t handle waiting two full turns in each but I didn’t want to get stuck way in back or separated, plus in the middle of a big waiting crowd in the waiting area…too much for him. So I thought using the GAC would be best in this situation, I showed it to the first CM at the main entrance, I had Michael and Mae w/ me and just coming behind me was the rest of my group…I thought I had clearly acknowledged they were w/ me when she waved us in, but she stopped them from entering and said our group was too big, we exceeded the max allowed on the card (which actually we do) but it didn’t seem to be a big issue the few times we asked to use it for all 7 plus the baby….IMOH…I don’t think she should count Margaret in the total since she is not required to have a admission ticket being under 3. But the non-laughing CM didn’t quite think the same…she grudging let us in and we did get stuck exactly where we didn’t want to be, and w/ no other CM to help us out even to split up now at this point, DH wanted to push forward, but I insisted we just stay put, I didn’t want to cause any more upset.

We were like the last few guests in and were way in back and split up in 3 groups…oh pooey! For me the show wasn’t quite up to par this time…and “That Guy!” well he didn’t win an academy award….oh well. :sad2:

From there we headed back to Fantasyland via the castle which is always a treat IMOH

100_2490.jpg

And here is Mae enjoying her walk into the castle:

100_2492.jpg

100_2493.jpg

First we rode the Carosuel together:

100_2495.jpg

100_2498.jpg

100_2505.jpg

The we opted to split up as Matt and I took the kids on IASW and my parents went to see MPHM show (which neither of them has seen before).

It was fun to ride through one of my ultimate favorite rides here in the World and watch the expressions on my children’s faces light up as they point in wonder and amazement at this simple wonderful little boat ride….

And I really think I saw some little bit I had never noticed before high up in the building, but now it escapes my memory….bummer….at least I know many more rides “In my Small World” will be coming…I don’t care how old my kids will get…they will always take one trip w/ their Mama! :goodvibes

After a quick reststop and pictures:

100_2507.jpg

she likes the upside down look

100_2510.jpg

Oh and I guess I should mention Michael's headphones being knocked off down that wall....:scared: luckily not in the fountain. That was super close!

Next was dinner and we decided on eating at CHH.

Up NEXT: Our Dinner and a little fun with Tom & Huck…but who actually made it on the island?

Thanks for reading as always!

What a busy summer you been having! The lake house looks like so much fun. My IL's have a cottage on a little lake, but there is no beach and they don't have a boat so we don't go there very often. I need to starting working on my FIL to get a boat in a couple of years!

I have to go back and read your TR later - maybe tomorrow, but wanted to comment on your summer update...

Wow - I can't believe your summer is half way over!! Zach has been out of school since June 5th but Alex just got out a week ago! It feels like our summer is just starting... but not really since it's been rainy and in the 60s for what seems like weeks. Our weather if FINALLY supposed to break on Saturday and we might actually get to see the sun!! I think the heat you have been having may finally be making it east. Sunday could be a beach day - it's probably going to be mobbed though since we haven't really had any beach days yet.

You guys have done a lot this year. The lake house looks great. When Tim's brother & family visit in August we are going out to the Berkshires in western Mass. to a cottage on a lake. Tim's distant relative owns it (Tim's grandfather helped build it so it must be his great, great uncle's house?? Maybe passed down to his kids??) and they rent it out to family members for cheap - they just try to cover the expenses between everyone who uses it. They did say that the boat has a hole in it though... but I think there are some rental places really close by. I've only been out there a couple times but I guess Tim and his brother used to go a lot as kids. Jeff is really looking forward to going and so are we!! Anyways, what I'm trying to say is that your pictures are getting me really excited for that trip! I just hope we have some sun by then. :headache:

Have a Happy 4th!!

Yes keeping it full! Last night we watched Pinnochio too, it was fun to watch that movie after a loonnnggg time. The kids enjoyed it, especially when they escaped from Monstro.

the lake house is nice, they re-built 2 summers back and so it is alot nicer now than when we used to visit, and yes a boat makes a nice difference.

That lake house looks so fun and relaxing.

thanks, it was! we are heading up next weekend as well w/ DH's parents too.

Wow - I can't believe your summer is half way over!!

I know...most of the suburbs get out early June to return late Aug, but Chicago schools and south side sub's like where my DSis lives get out and go back about a week and 1/2 after us. It's kinda odd to read other's TR who's summers are just begining unlike ours'.

but not really since it's been rainy and in the 60s for what seems like weeks.

oh we've had some of that unseasonably coolness too...after the week of high 90's we dropped back to the 60's....chilly! and now today the 4th looks icky w/ cooler tmeps and on/off rain, not fun for our BBQ...maybe we can play croquet inside?

It is very nice, still a bit small for all of Matt's family to go up together, but just perfect for a small group of us. The kids as I seem to enjoy more now that they are getting older. His parents have had that property since Matt was a baby, so he's been going up there for a long time. It is real special!

Have a Happy 4th!!

Happy 4th to all of you too! pixiedust:

Okay, Scrappie, now you know I'm married to a cop, so I just had to show him this so he could get a little chuckle!

Ed says the reason he didn't give you a ticket could've been any or all of those reasons... that police officers are people too and aren't always driving around looking to ruin a person's day. "Mostly its the attitude of the driver that determines whether they get the ticket or not... if he acted like a jerk, he would've got the ticket." So, I guess Matt handled himself correctly.

Ed said that he hasn't given tickets for lots of reasons...

- Handicapped child in the car
- Crying/Screaming infant in the car
- Doctor or Nurse (we have a large hospital in our town)
- Police Officer or Firefighter
- Armed Forces personnel

and my personal favorite...

- A woman who shared the same first and last name of his wife! ("I just couldn't write that ticket," he says!)

Glad you got off with just a warning... but mostly glad you all got home safely!

Wow! You guys have been very busy already this summer! I thoroughly enjoyed all of your summer photos. :goodvibes

I like riding the train at the Magic Kingdom. It's relaxing and a nice way to get around the park when it's hot and crowded.

I'm getting my next post ready but had to share this fun story first....

An Unexpectated DisMeet! :goodvibes pixiedust:

so as I had said in my summer update....the last 2 weeks I had been taking the 3 older kids to the pool for swim lessons each morning. On the first day I recognized a Mom and we sat by each other and chatted, but then didn't sit by each other again till the end of last week.

Now I know her from my church as I taught her DS in the Kids Korner Bible class on Wed mornings last fall. It had turned out that her DS was in Mae's group and then her DD was w/ Aldine in her group during swimming too.

so now back to the waiting pool side, last week after the week of 90's we had, last week was very cool in low 60's, so on Tuesday myself and Margaret had our Disney sweatshirts on and we happen to be sitting by this Mom again.

She asks if we had been to WDW recently? :confused3

and well that just began a flood of fun talking about going to Disney, resorts, all that good stuff. We talked the next morning as well and laughed at how fun it was to find another "Disney Freak"

and then we found out we both Dised! :woohoo:

Now my new Disney friend is a bit of a lurker she says, but I think her Disname has her first name Cheryl in it.

so who knows maybe she'll happen to find me and say  to us all.

Very cool!

a very fun surprise and joy to be had at swim lessons....and then our DD's laughed at how we carried on these conversations like we were BFF's....well in Disney!

Very cool about the accidental Dis meet! :thumbsup2

Since Chuck is just at school right now, we still talk every day on the phone and we see each other online. ;) It'll be a different story when he's actually on the ship.

We're planning a trip to meet up with him next weekend. We're going to drive down to Georgia and he'll drive up. We're very excited. :goodvibes

well that sounds nice for now huh? w/ all the interaction w/ Chuck even though he's not actually eye to eye. :lovestruc

How great about your upcoming weekend in Georgia, hope it is wonderful for you guys!

That's so funny about the DIS meet!! Right in your own back yard! :thumbsup2

I just finished reading your last update... sounds like it was getting crowded! :crowded: We have yet to visit the Laugh Floor! Another thing from our wish list that we'll have to put on our list for next time. :rolleyes1

Sorry about your trouble with the GAC... we were lucky that we didn't run into any issues this year. But we didn't have to use it so much this time - the crowds had settled down by the time we were there.

Hey-just happened upon your trip report-what a lovely family you have including awesome grandparents...:goodvibes

I admire your amazing organizational skills...I have a trip coming up in (OMG) I JUST REALIZED NEXT MONTH_AUG 18 TO BE EXACT...OOPs better getting moving...

anyhow a couple of quick thoughts...

great family...
the kids so cute...the little ones dressed like princessess...
Michael seems like a really smart, cool kid...he did look like HARRY Potter...:thumbsup2

I'm glad you didn't get a ticket-I talked my way out of one yesterday-my brake lights were out and I didn't know...:confused3...anyway most police are really good about it and not being a jerk to them is definately the way to go...:thumbsup2

Mainly wanted to delurk and tell you I was enjoying your report but now that I realized how close we are...i have to run around like the White Rabbit from Alice in Wonderland...."We're late, we're late, for a very important date...":scared:

More fun on Day 5) MK….Dinner and a little Fun w/ Tom and Huck!

I last left off w/ us having dinner at CHH….I don’t recall what everyone ordered but I know I had the BLT plus chicken salad. YUM!!!!

And Aldine ordered the chilled chicken w/ salad greens yet again and I think Mae had a circle PB & J, Margaret had chicken nuggets and Michael got some fish basket off the adult menu.

We found 2 tables sorta in the corner in the back on the main floor and enjoyed our rest from the noise, crowds and heat of the late afternoon. We all enjoyed our food and filled up quite well. I knew time was against at this point and we still had yet to do TSI. I’m not sure what time it really was but we found out somehow the island would be closing soon so it had to be after 6 pm by my guess as we were finishing up eating.

Now my intention was for all of us to go over to the island for some fun, but one little girl in our party was refusing to eat her dinner….

Mae

It wasn’t like she didn’t like her meal, or has never eaten this before. The circle PB & J ‘s are like her favorite! Yes it had been a long day and she was probably tired, but she had barely eaten and I wasn’t going to let it 1) go to waste or 2) chance her getting sick because she didn’t eat or 3) hear the whines of “I’m hungry” a ½ hour later.

I told her she could not go to TSI if she didn’t eat her dinner and she better get a move on…she is a notoriously very slow eater and picker even at home this is a huge issue…so not special to Disney.

This threat didn’t really make her eat any faster and I wasn’t gonna let my guns down. So everyone packed up and headed out of the restaurant while she and I sat till she finished…

She finished then ;)

As she was finishing her meal I watched some group come into our area and start re-arranging tables and chairs, the reason I post this is because 1) I thought it was kinda odd to be pushing tables clearly out of the normal configuration and 2) not to mention in front of an exit door! Hello!? Fire hazard people!!!!!

Ok off my soap box.

Mae and I left and headed out w/ the intention to catch up to them, but it seemed to me people were already saving spots for Spectro at 8:30 pm even though the ropes weren’t up yet. It just seemed every bench and seating area had people staked out on them. Maybe it was a bit premature…but I was slightly worried if I went on the island too, we ‘d get a bad spot and we really needed a bench or something for my Mom to sit on….crouching down on the pavement isn’t fun for her.

So I explained to Mae we couldn’t make it to the island after all and I called DH on his cell. He told me they made the last raft over anyways so we couldn’t have gone if we wanted (it closes at 7 pm), also my Mom didn’t go and stayed behind w/ the stroller. Matt took Margaret w/ them.

I tried several times to get hold of my Mom on her cell, but it kept going in voice mail.

Now I had a spot on a brick planter wall in front of the Diamond Horseshoe Hall. I didn’t want to wander toward Pecos Bill supposedly where she was and risk losing our spot and I couldn’t leave Mae alone to guard it.

She eventually got my VM and tried calling me but it went in my voice mail….see a trend in our cell phone issues here.

She headed over our way and found us and we parked the stroller in front of us and then put the towel (the one we used as a shade while Margaret napped) on the ground next to it.

We camped out here, and Mae got out a notepad and markers and drew and colored pictures for a while. Shortly after that CM’s from the various attractions came around starting to rope and tape off the parade route. It was kinda cute to see these differently dressed CM’s hanging out together…the maid form HM and a rugged frontiersman.

The others made it back sometime later and had enjoyed their time there. Matt reported it wasn’t too crowded and the kids he had w/ them enjoyed themselves and so did my Dad, he probably hadn’t been on the island since we were kids back in the 80’s.

Here are some pictures of their fun w/ Tom & Huck:

Oh and I forgot to post this on the last MK post...but MRYPPNS (Heidi) you had mentioned on a previous TR...about the golden ribbon or sash on a horses tail on the CGC...yes  I couldn't remember when we were there if it was on the tail or the main, but I saw this:

Is that right?

Up NEXT…Spectromagical FUN!
Thanks for reading,

Scrappie (J-)

I can't believe how early people were lining up for Spectro!! I'm glad most of the family enjoyed TSI... we missed that one again too. :headache:

Boy I guess I do need to plan a new trip!! :rolleyes1

I just read your update to Liam as he was waking up from his nap. He enjoyed it very much.

Thanks for the picture of the golden ribbon on Cinderella's horse. I now know why I couldn't find it before....I was looking for it up by the horse's rump, not down on the tail.

I always think what a waste of tape for the parade route every day but I guess painted lines all over the place wouldn't be very good for the "show" the rest of the time.

that's your plan all along huh :rotfl: "Tim look at all these things we missed, we just have to go back in 010..." :rolleyes1 JK

I know, kinda think the same thing and then why to do they rip it all over when they're just gonna put it back down less than an hour later

Oh well guess I'll just have to get a job down there someday to figure that out! ;)

Yep, been there :sad2:

She eventually got my VM and tried calling me but it went in my voice mail….see a trend in our cell phone issues here.

Yes, I recall having cell phone issues too - it's just SO hard to hear the thing ringing when you're in a park! :headache:

I would've gotten a kick out of that too :rotfl2:

I'm glad your dad was able to enjoy that experience again - even better, with his grandchildren!

Great pictures, that looks fun!
