I am sitting here, having breakfast and listening to Public Radio. They are doing pieces this week about the price of gas and it's impact on people. They are also doing pieces exploring how we arrived at this point, our dependence on gasoline.

Sukie and I were shopping this week, and I was standing next to the car waiting for him, while he was in a CD store.

A guy came up to me and started talking to me about Mrs. Fezziwig. He told me that he has and SUV and was spending $90 a week on gasoline to commute to work and was interested in something more economical, because he couldn't afford the commute anymore.

I take a CTA (Chicago Transit Authority) bus to work and commuter rail home. My roundtrip commute costs $4.10 a day or $20.50 a week, and I spend about $4.00 a week on gasoline, so while I'm aware of it, I don't pay that much attention.

I am wondering how all this is impacting people and how are you coping with it? This piece on Public Radio has really gotten me concerned about people, so I hope everyone is ok and coping.

We got a Jigsaw Puzzle from Castaway Club today! It's Mickey, Donald and Goofy finding treasure!

We got ours two days ago. Two puzzles because I hyphonate (sp?) my name so they think we are two families.

Ian, the gas price hasn't impacted me too much yet. Since I've been cooking/packing lunch more I think some of that dining out $$ moved to the gasoline catagory!

One of my friends at work lives near me and we are talking about car pooling at least a couple of days a week. IF we can work it out...she wants me to do the driving and pick her up and drop her off and she gives me money. I'm not sure I'm interested in having to leave home earlier and get home later EVERY day. I suggested she drive to my house and leave her car here, but she wasn't excited about that concept (because it means SHE would have to leave home earlier!) And, of course, we haven't even discussed how much money she'd be giving me. :confused3

I'm more interested in us taking turns driving, then no money is involved, we each have to make the leave earlier concession. I think I'll insist on that condition and suggest a 'test' of just pooling on Tuesday and Thursdays...and see how that goes.

Considering there is also wear and tear on a car I think she is after a deal more favourable to her!!!

No, Patrick cannot put that puzzle together, too small

Our "weekend" away was a complete BUST! The nursing home was not appropriate for our Patrick......Thank God for our Michael! He brought him home on Friday and Saturday during the day, and checked him out on Sunday. Chuck and I re arranged our flights to come home on Sunday night........
I can't quite figure out if the problem was that Patrick has so many needs, or if he is too spoiled, and expects too much care, or if the nursing home isn't the right environment for him.

I was tempted to make him stay for the whole 5 days, in spite of his complaints......I don't think it would have hurt him at all! But Chuck was freaking out, he totally didn't want him there! He felt that he was in danger to be there, but I didn't......I am the "hard" discipline parent. I made Patrick do so much when he was younger, but Chuck is very soft on him........I guess we need a middle ground.

So now I am back to square one........looking for the appropriate environment for him to stay for at least a week.......got a big job in front of me!

Wow, Connie, it sounds like this may also result in a major separation anxiety for each of you independently as well as interdependently. Keep looking and trying on places like a new shoe as long as it isn't too disorienting to Patrick's routine. You guys have taken such excellent care of him that it will be hard to ever find a stranger to take the same love and interest that you do. But put out your mission statement and don't give in until it is right for you. This is a family challenge and a goal at the same time isn't it? Good luck to you all.

PS: Zoe said she was going to call her friend Connie again yesterday.

And why do you think I like that avatar!!

I had a larger picture on the Ship of Thieves site. Not sure which one I put there. Is it still open?

Ok Disneyland experts, I need your help! We are planning my mom's 70th birthday and the whole family (6 children, 11 grandchildren, 3 spouses, and one dad) will be meeting at Disneyland. We are considering the following hotels:
Sheraton Anaheim
Residence Inn
Marriott Suites
Thoughts of the above hotels??
We are going over Thanksgiving, thinking about the Thanksgiving dinner/buffet at the Disneyhotel. We want to make a few reservations as meeting places - maybe a show and then dinner. Can you make reservations for the shows at Disneyland/California park? What restaurants take reservations?

Also, does anyone know of anyone that would accept a donation in place of a reservation at Club 33? I thought that maybe someone might know someone that has membership and would be willing to make a reservation for us in exchange to us making a donation to the charity of their choice.

Finally, does anyone know if you can arrange for a group photo? Thanks so much all you Disney experts!
Lisa

I'm not good with the hotels as we never stay at the hotels, but the dinner I can answer!

Every year we go to the DL hotel dinner for Thanksgiving. It is beautiful, great food, very big, large orchestra, character meeting spots all around the room. It is in the grand ballroom. One of the funniest things that happens is many of the families use fake Disney names. You will hear, "Mike Wyzowski, party of 22" It's a crack up. We use the Robinsons from Meet the Robinsons. The reservations will be opened up around September and you have to call that morning. If you want I can email you when they open up the date. The reservations fill up and sell out entirely. After dinner Santa Claus is just outside the door and we always take a family picture with Santa with some kind of coordinated Disney hats (there are only 4 of us.) But yes, you can arrange photos.

Last year we wanted to try Goofy's kitchen to see how they do Thanksgiving and it was nothing special. We'll go back to the Grand Ballroom this year and continue to go their each year. It is lots of fun. We then stroll down to the GC and sit by the fireplace and drink hot chocolate or coffee.

The Steakhouse 55 has dinner too, but they don't do anything special and we have a strict vegetarian in our group of 4. The ballroom has tons of selection from fish tables, cheese tables, main courses, sides, desserts, kids tables everything you can imagine.

The Storytellers has their usual buffet, but with thanksgiving items. You must use the buffet when you are a party over the size of 8.

Club 33: we aren't members, we decided to join DVC instead after being on wait list for 7 years. We didn't like the food, but the environment is fantastic. You can go on the main boards and post a request, you never know who may answer you. There are a lot of corporations who give away their spots.

Again, you'll need to make reservations the first day for whichever restaurant you choose.

Hope all that helps.

Good Morning All!

Life with a Celebrity Part 3

Sukie attended a Mayor's reception yesterday evening, not related tot he documetary, he gets invited to these sorts of events all the time. He came home and told me that he had tons of people coming up to him, telling him that they had not realized he knew so much or was so eloquent.

Apparently the documentary has been a big fund raiser for the local PBS station. They are now considering doing a second documentary.

The people from the PBS station were there. They told Sukie that there was a bomb threat to the TV station as a result of the documentary. They evacuated the station, brought in the bomb squad.

It is actually a bit scary, I mean considering that we have strangers coming up to us in Home Depot and coming up to Sukie on the street. You never know what crazy people there are out there.

Very fun stuff going on for Sukie!

For us it is a huge nightmare. We go to a different location every week and often 3 locations per day. They are all 60+ miles from our home. It is 3-5 hours of commuting and sitting in traffic for much of the time where gas just burns. We get 40 MPH in our Honda and 27 in the minivan at $4.60 per gallon as of today. We do charge many of our schools for gas, but now we have to increase the price which is never good for anyone.

How on earth did that happen? Our insurance that covers absolutely nothing just went up another $1000.

Connie - did you remember me yet?

NO! WHERE"S YOUR PICTURE? I THINK I HAVE ONE OF YOU........COME ON!

Oh, by the way.....:offtopic:
Do you know of anyone who has a fully furnished mobile home to rent to my mom for 3 or 4 months? Near Davenport or in Polo Park or Windmill Village?
:rolleyes1
