No, Patrick cannot put that puzzle together, too small

Our "weekend" away was a complete BUST! The nursing home was not appropriate for our Patrick......Thank God for our Michael! He brought him home on Friday and Saturday during the day, and checked him out on Sunday. Chuck and I re arranged our flights to come home on Sunday night........
I can't quite figure out if the problem was that Patrick has so many needs, or if he is too spoiled, and expects too much care, or if the nursing home isn't the right environment for him.

I was tempted to make him stay for the whole 5 days, in spite of his complaints......I don't think it would have hurt him at all! But Chuck was freaking out, he totally didn't want him there! He felt that he was in danger to be there, but I didn't......I am the "hard" discipline parent. I made Patrick do so much when he was younger, but Chuck is very soft on him........I guess we need a middle ground.

So now I am back to square one........looking for the appropriate environment for him to stay for at least a week.......got a big job in front of me!

Sounds like you and Chuck balance each other well! :)

Does Patrick attend any day program during the week or is there a support group of other parents that you belong to? Perhaps they have some respite ideas.

Other nursing homes might work or maybe the one you tried just needed more specific instructions.

I have a friend here in Indy who does Foster Care for and has adopted special needs kids. She will keep other special needs kids during parents' work hours or for respite visits. When she needs someone to help with her kids she gets people at church to either take a kid or come stay at her home.

Would Visiting Nurses be a resource about what services are available?

If you were looking for full-time placemet for Patrick what social services would help with that decision? They might be able to help with respite care.

 and good luck as you explore options.

Jan :earsgirl:

By the way, thanks for asking......also I need a bigger picture of you and your hubby.....your avatar is just too small!

And why do you think I like that avatar!!

I had a larger picture on the Ship of Thieves site. Not sure which one I put there. Is it still open?

How is this?

Jan :earsgirl:

I wish our VBS was in the evenings, but then Tyler wouldn't get to go on Thurs & Fri when at his dad's. But it's 10am-1pm, and I'd lose too many hours at work taking him to day care first, then leaving to get him to VBS, then back to work and back to get him to day care for the rest of the day. It just wouldn't work. :(

A friend was telling me just today that their church has VBS in the evening as they get more adult help that way. Maybe your church VBS leadership could use a hint.

Jan :earsgirl:

:)
Don't give up Connie!!! I'm sure that there are great places that can care for Patrick for you!!! Have you considdered in home care?

Yes, we have tried in home day care, but not 24 hour care yet. That would be fine temporarily, but I think Patrick would get bored with nobody else around to talk to! :)

Those are all very good, sensible suggestions. We DID send him to a very nice placement in Feb. but it was in St. Augustine....just too far away. There is another one in Sarasota, but they are in the middle of remodeling, and there is a new one being built in Avalon Park just east of Orlando. We are hoping it will fit our needs.......
I had a crazy idea....there is a company that runs rehabiltiation homes.....our house is already handicapped accessible, we should sell our house to the company and then Patrick would have a perfect place to stay.

Now, I also have my mom to consider. She's having a lot of trouble with her blood pressure, and she is depressed. I went over to go to the cardiologist with her today, and she is a rather difficult patient!

She didn't bring her meds with her and she didn't know how much she took, and she denied that she has high blood pressure, she doesn't want to do a stress test...etc etc etc etc. Anyway, she IS going to have a renal ultra sound next week, and she wants me there, and she has agreed to have a treadmill stress test, but she wants me there for that too!

I finally talked her into trying to find a temporary short term rental here in Orlando area. So we'll see........

Hey kids....I just added another blog to page one. It's from DISer linuxwebguy (Jeremy) and hopefully another one will be added as soon as I get the OK. Check em out!

Day one memory: Crown of Scallops & Caviar Macedoine (should have had three more orders of that as my entre as the steak wasn't so hot), the Cumin & Cilantro Dip (best of the entire trip) and the Banana Carmel Bliss for dessert. Oh yummm yummmm yummmmm. Oh yeah, and meeting all you guys! :lmao:

I'm still at the office. Started playing on the computer...plus a mess of the salespeople are here working on a Olympic project and they brought in pizza...so FREE dinner!

.

 It was so fun having dinner with you and Jackie that night!
Off topic???? Hasn't Gayleen's birthday been THE topic for the last week or so???:rotfl2: :rotfl: :lmao:
:rotfl:

Lisa (Calmom) - good to see you back!
Thanks! It's nice to be back, although I might send my DH over the edge. I think he thought...cruise over, I got my wife back!

Done :thumbsup2

Kathe
Kathe, it was fun sitting next to you by the pool that day! I'm glad you got your cruise booked.

How yah tell me!
What is that guy's problem?

Jan :earsgirl:
I think he is just a young kid. I thought his video of us going through was pretty cool. He actually says something like "actually might be fun" under his breath after he says something about it being crazy.

Ok Disneyland experts, I need your help! We are planning my mom's 70th birthday and the whole family (6 children, 11 grandchildren, 3 spouses, and one dad) will be meeting at Disneyland. We are considering the following hotels:
Sheraton Anaheim
Residence Inn
Marriott Suites
Thoughts of the above hotels??
We are going over Thanksgiving, thinking about the Thanksgiving dinner/buffet at the Disneyhotel. We want to make a few reservations as meeting places - maybe a show and then dinner. Can you make reservations for the shows at Disneyland/California park? What restaurants take reservations?

Also, does anyone know of anyone that would accept a donation in place of a reservation at Club 33? I thought that maybe someone might know someone that has membership and would be willing to make a reservation for us in exchange to us making a donation to the charity of their choice.

Finally, does anyone know if you can arrange for a group photo? Thanks so much all you Disney experts!
Lisa

We got a Jigsaw Puzzle from Castaway Club today! It's Mickey, Donald and Goofy finding treasure!

That's cute. I'm not holding my breath for anything here.

Hello Connie

wow, sound great.

I never received anything from Castaway Club!! I dont think they deliver to UK? Marilyn is that right?

But I received the booking form with Big Mickey & Minnie's Postcard that is all.

Scottishwee35

They won't send the promotional DVD's so I guess nothing else either!!:(

I first sailed in 2005...then 2005.....then 2006...now 2008....and NO CASTAWAY CLUB CARD!!!!

What's going on???? :confused3 :confused3
Doesn't DCL know I want more Disney stuff to collect??? (I have called several times to request that one be sent to me and stilll NOTHING!)

So it isn't just the Brits who don't get the CC cards. For crying out loud, you're just up the road!!!:lmao:

Please post a photo of yourself on the cruise........I think I have mixed you up with someone else!

I am ready for a Central Florida Post Panama Canal Cruise party, is anyone else within driving distance of Orlando in July?

We have already gone to Illinois for one celebration, and we are going to Rock Falls again the last weekend in June for a wedding, but we have ALL of JULY FREE! I want to have a party!

Let me know if you can come.....and which weekend would be best.....

a: July 11/12
b: July 19/20
c: July 26/27

Most voles wins!

I wish.:worried:

Sorry about your weekend. I hope you can find somewhere else nice for Patrick. Are there not any young adult disability places over there?

evening all.
not much going on here. Trying to start a nighttime schedule with the girls. They are in bed.

Being on a cruise must mess that up when they can be up till all hours. good on you getting a routine back. I think that is so important for them(and you).

Now, I also have my mom to consider. She's having a lot of trouble with her blood pressure, and she is depressed. I went over to go to the cardiologist with her today, and she is a rather difficult patient!

Oh Connie, sorry about your mom. Seems many have an elderly parent or two to keep an eye on, and quite a few seem difficult. We are surely the sandwich generation. John's mom is 92 next month. She is quite well really but very demanding.

Hi

Good Morning Sunshine here :goodvibes

I was reading deb wills's blob and her photos are so beautiful and short story about our Panama Canal Cruise.

Anyway, she was mentioned that Donny Osmond supposed to be on our Cruise but cancel it and last mins and change to Joey Fatone.

I cannot image if my idol Donny should be on our cruise. I should have a photo with him and augograph too. I will be in   Damn, he didnt make it as I am sure that he had the 50th family at concert in UK.

I hope he is NOT on Eastbound Cruise as I will be :badpc: :badpc: JEALOUS!!

Good Morning All!

Life with a Celebrity Part 3

Sukie attended a Mayor's reception yesterday evening, not related tot he documetary, he gets invited to these sorts of events all the time. He came home and told me that he had tons of people coming up to him, telling him that they had not realized he knew so much or was so eloquent.

Apparently the documentary has been a big fund raiser for the local PBS station. They are now considering doing a second documentary.

The people from the PBS station were there. They told Sukie that there was a bomb threat to the TV station as a result of the documentary. They evacuated the station, brought in the bomb squad.

It is actually a bit scary, I mean considering that we have strangers coming up to us in Home Depot and coming up to Sukie on the street. You never know what crazy people there are out there.
