Weight Watchers Anyone???

seems a lot of you have 3-5 pound gains after WDW, but then quickly lose it. I agree that it's water weight, but I'm just surprised by it. My leader was talking about how we retain water when we first start to exercise because the muscles need it to repair themselves. Perhaps this is what's happening? I appreciate the heads up on that, as I won't freak out if I'm up a bit when we get back.

That and the fact that all the "naughty" food we are eating at Disney probably contains a lot more salt than we eat in our home cooked meals, and salt retains water bad!! Once you get home and start with less salt you should soon "dispose" of all thay extra water and shift some of the weight.

I used to run diet and exercise classes and its nice to drag the knowledge out of the crevices of my mind sometimes!!!

I leave for the airport in two hours!!!

I wanted to add my mom did the Core plan last week while in WDW. She said it was a lot easier then trying to figure out points and things. She did splurge here and there on Mickey bars or popcorn.

I was in WDW a few weeks after starting WW. I made good decisions and had some treats. All the walking helped. I lost weight. I subscribe to the Palm Pilot application, and had great intentions to track all my points, but that didn't happen. I found ordering children's meals helped with some meals. There are healthier options everywhere, and are often more interesting than burgers and fries at quick service places.

Well, here's the results...

When we returned Sunday evening, my weight was up only 1.8 pounds. I thought that was amazing. But it seems some of that was water retention, and after being home and on plan for 2 days, I'm down .4 pounds from my weigh-in two weeks ago.

While there, I didn't do much at all to stay on track. I did avoid fried foods, but I did indulge in some onion rings and french fries, but I split them. I opted for the boring turkey sandwich a couple times, but also had a lot of less healthy things. I had a lot of desserts, but never a whole portion. 2 glasses of wine and several frozen lemonades, and some candied pecans. I had very little red meat; mostly chicken or seafood. But I was very, very active- lots of swimming, walking, and pushing a double stroller. So, I'm thrilled that I didn't gain anything.

Thanks for everyone's great ideas and support.

Congratulations! You did a great job!

I usually come home 10 - 12 lbs lighter (10-night visit). Now, if I could just keep the weight off! *LOL*

WTG!

Hello first off congratulations on your weight loss..my mom is a Weight Watchers leader and has been for 21 years...her advice is this...eating out in Disney World is the same as you would eat out at home..take some snacks that you enjoy at home and bring them with you in the park..drink plenty of water this will help your body to think that it is full..your body needs 3 meals a day FOOD IS FUEL so don't skip out on a meal...if a meal does not go as planned get back on track the very next bite not when you get home..and just remeber portion control is what it is all about!...TAKE CARE OF YOU AND HAVE A WONDERFUL TRIP!!!!

:cheer2: First of all many happy congrats on your weight loss so far, and coming home without going completely nuts! I was in a similar situation. When we went last month I decided that I really wanted to splurge on dinner since I love dinner type foods. So I brought my Weight Loss oatmeal and my 100 calorie snacks for during the day and scheduled our dinner for about 4pm and ate whatever I wanted, including dessert if I really wanted something. I also took advantage of the fresh fruit sold everywhere in the park. When I was there I wore my pedometer and averages 7 miles per day, and I ended up losing 2 lbs. I didn't diet, but I didn't over indulge either.

thanks so much everyone for your comforting comments...i'll try not to freak out when i come back and see a few lbs gained...however, while i do plan to splurge some, im still going to keep an eye on what i eat

This is slightly off topic, but has anyone on WW had trouble buying the MUFFINS lately? The double chocolate ones are my fave, but I can't seem to find them at my local grocery stores for the past month. They come in a 3 pack....I tried going to the WW website and sending e-mails, but I haven't had luck in getting a response.

I haven't looked for the WW muffins, but have you tried the vitatops? They are really good and only 1 point for a large (2 oz) portion. They might be a great substitute if you can't find the WW muffins.

I've lost 50 lbs in a year on WW and I am a member for life. I love how in control I am of my food intake, but I also love letting go every once in a while and not worrying about points. This is what I plan to do when I visit WDW in Sept.

If I even tried to count points at WDW, I would be crying everyday. I want to enjoy these things that I don't always have at my fingertips, and I think I would be sooo miserable if I didn't just let go and enjoy myself. With WW, there's always a fresh start tomorrow, or in this case..when you get back from vacation. :)

:thumbsup2 great job. You should be really proud of yourself.

We are leaving in just over 2 weeks. I am on a doctor supervised weight loss plan and have lost as of 2 days ago 58 pounds. It has been a life-long battle and I am sure it will continue to be a life-long battle.

I am planning on eating a healthy breakfast - probably in our room (we have a DVC villa), being very careful with lunch and then eating whatever I want for dinner. I am also planning on using those workout rooms nearly every day. Even with that plan (and I know I can do it - I did it last year), I have no delusions about coming back without gaining weight. However, hopefully it will just be water weight. I am one of those people who balloon up with just the thought of salt. We went to Olive Garden 2 weeks ago for my youngest DDs b-day and the next day I was up 4 pounds - all water. :sad2: It's nuts. At least I know I am that way so I am not going to panic. I also have some water pills my doctor prescribed so hopefully that will help out.

Anyway - didn't mean to take over your thread. Just wanted to give you a virtual high five and say way to go! :goodvibes

I've been going through the menus trying to figure out how to do this. I think I am going to try to make the best choices for each meal-and keep the portions as small as possible. The quality of the food is just so good at WDW that I feel like I'm still splurging if I only have an appetizer and a salad. And I like the idea of sharing a meal-if only hubbie will cooperate. And then maybe choosing one dessert to share for a special occasion. I can do without burgers and fries, ice cream, etc. I'm going to only choose things I can't poosibly get anywhere else. Has anyone else tried the appetizer approach?

Planning helps. But I must say, I don't do well at WDW with my food choices. I leave here in 5 hours and I just know that when I get home a week from today I will probably have a few more pounds in the airline seat with me! I also know I have to hit it HARD when I return. I can't get DH to split meals (no way), we are on the FREE dining plan on this trip, and I just know ME....I have trouble saying no to certain foods and that is why I am overweight. So good luck to you. Study the menus and make good meal choices. I know this is my way of life for the rest of my life, so I can't beat myself up if I don't do fantastic. I'm striving for good choices and more excercise!

I do WW too. I never diet while on vacation, ever. I like to eat what I want and not worry about it. Even while not on WW, I have never come back from a trip weighing more. I seem to burn off all those ADRS walking the parks. I'm going next Saturday and have a full list of ADRs with all my favorite restaurants. I might even take a second helping of that bread pudding from 'Ohana and won't feel a bit of guilt!

I guess I just need to find a way to tell myself that being at WDW, being on vacation, being with my family, staying at OKW, etc-all that is enough. I don't have to eat everything that looks good, too. It is so hard to get past the idea that if I say no to something, I'm somehow deprived or punishing myself. Being healthy and making many more trips to the World should be reason enough to make the right choices!
Maybe I'll remind myself-"Hmm, something to try on a future visit!" and each trip I"ll have one special something. If I only I could be sure I'd live a hundred years so I can be sure to try it all!

I am NOT lucky enough to have the metabolism that lets me eat a little extra and not gain. I gain if I deviate from the program by 1 meal. So I always come back from vacation heavier by 5-7 lbs. Luckily some of it drops off really quickly...but some I have to work hard at.
