We bought our plane tickets too soon!

I know I shouldn't've checked, but I checked.

On Sunday night, my DH and I bought our tickets for NYC-MCO round trip 3rd week in January. We'd been watching the fares for a little over a week and we were worried the fare would go up. So--of course!--the price went down. In fact, you'd have to say it plummeted. :sad2:

The cost on Jet Blue is $120 cheaper than our Continental flights and even Continental lowered their prices significantly--$80 less than it was only 24 hours ago. Ack! I called Continental and they offered to send us vouchers for the $80...BUT we would have to pay $60 in "change fees" in order to re-issue the tickets. Not worth it to save $20, especially since we have no idea if we'll be traveling within the year, so the vouchers could be worth nothing to us.

I'm actually considering paying the $30 per ticket to cancel the Continental flights and rebooking on Jet Blue. We'd save $60.

If anyone has any further insight into this, please let me know. Maybe there's something else we could do, but I don't know what it is. I am unamused.

The best way to look at this is, you have your tickets booked, you are ready to go on vacation, and you dont have to worry anymore about the tickets. One can never tell how the airfare is going to go. Maybe the flight times would have been bad *DONT LOOK!* maybe the seats would have been sold out...etc etc. Be relieved that it is all squared away now...and enjoy!

(I know...it does stink though!)

bab31: You are so sweet. Thanks for the good thoughts. I agree with you completely.

But, as you'll see--I did get a nice agent at Continental and was able to resolve things satisfactorily. I posted again about it.

And we'll be at WDW! What could be better? I'm psyched! :Pinkbounc

Man, have I been in your situation!! I usually book at the 331 day window with Delta, but as we've all seen, their customer service is going crazy. So, I kept putting off my booking my flights to Tampa in mid-January. Well, yesterday I just checked out JetBlue....$59 pp, non-stop from Tampa to Boston....boy, did I jump on that fare!!! So, now I can get home but no flights to Tampa. But, last night I figured I would check and see what Delta was offering. $69 pp, non-stop!!!! So, jumped on that one. So....I used a $90 credit with JB, that leg cost me $117 for three at the exact time I needed. Delta cost me $207 for three, again at the exact time I wanted.....$324 for three ain't too bad. For once, waiting it out paid for me.
Glad your situation worked out for you!!!!

I never book tickets so far out (just don't get people who buy their tickets a year in advance) unless I see a fabulous sale somewhere. While you don't want to wait a week before a trip to buy, if you wait, the price will almost always drop from prices offered 6 months out.

I have to say that with Delta, I never saw them drop the prices from what I had paid at the 331 window. I bought our tickets for our late Oct trip back in January. They only went up, never down. In fact, by our travel date, the tickets we had purchased for $170, had shot up to stay at about $245!! They had gone higher at one point, but did come down, but never to below that $245 mark. However, that's just my experience. Now, I wait for JB fares to come out, but when I saw that $69 fare, well...JB was at $99 for the same price and I just wasn't betting on them coming down to match that $69 fare. Of course, now that I've booked Delta for my flight to Tampa, JB will go down to $59!!!
