WDW Marathon Waivers Are (sort of) Up!

I theory, yes. In actual practice, I believe I was told the marathon was limited at 22-24k this year. With 5k dopey and 5k Goofy, that leaves 12-14k in the race as marathon only runners.

So they could add about 6-8k runners to reach the 19999 limit. Oh, to further help or possibly confuse, you generally always start a new race series at #1 to avoid confusion.

So...
0001 - Marathon
20001 - Goofy
30001 - Dopey
40001 - Donald
60001 - Minnie
70001 - Family Fun Run.

I'm with you now (I think) :thumbsup2
Thanks Coach.

Not too worried, but just curious. My bib # is 9497. I am running the full. Any thoughts about what corral I would be in? And in doing so, where would that be from the back?

Also, did not submit a time at registration. Thought that info would be helpful

You probably have 2-5 corrals behind you. I am thinking 9500/12000

Well all credit to you for continuing injured! I struggle and I'm injury free. I am however heavy so not fast at all and during our longs run I seem to be getting slower. Still under a 15 min mile on average but I, like yourself, want as much cushion as I can possibly get. Good luck to you whether you run/walk and whatever else ;) see you in corral K (?????????lol)

Definatley if you see me say Hi! I always always wear my WISH shirt as long as it isn't as cold as it was in 2010 then you will see it. That was the year I did my first goofy....OMG it was cold and I am Canadian!!!!! Just hope it isn't as hot as it was last year for the full....that was hot for us back of the packers

Coach can you post/link to where you guessed at corrals? Everyone keeps referring to it and I've searched but can't find it.

Thanks. I know this isn't written in stone. Still, it's interesting to see. Sounds like if I can be at the start of my corral I can be 10-25 minutes ahead of the sweepers. That sound right?

Possibly just a little less depending on how they stack the back. Thinking 3 min per wave release and 2-3 minutes for the last corral to clear.

Well, I would not have played with the numbers if I were not curious as well :)

My guess is 750 in the first 3-4 corrals based on a wider line start line and 60% additional runners than the ToT and W&D. Though it could be 1000 and still have the wave clear the start within a minute.

Great!- thanks! :)

Sorry! I am not trying to sound that way. Just new to the WDW marathon and have found great information on these threads. I am very excited/nervous to run, as I am not sure whether to focus on time or take the time and enjoy the experience.:)

Awesome 10 miler time, LyseBri23!

Will this be your first marathon?
I only ask because last year I ran Disney as my first marathon (in corral A), and I didn't stop to enjoy it because I was honestly worried that if I stopped I wouldn't finish... Afterwards, I felt like I really missed out on a lot of neat photo opps & experiences along the way.
Now that I've completed my second marathon (in October), and experienced how challenging a smaller-scale marathon course CAN be (read: little to no spectators, hilly course, etc), I've decided that it is really important for me to ENJOY the Disney marathon this year. I know I can go the distance, and Disney really does a spectacular job of making you "forget" that you are running 26.2 miles, or whatever distance you may be going. The park crowd support, character photo opportunities, etcc.. are things that you can't find at most other races, and being in an earlier corral definitely helps since there are hardly any lines.
That being said, you could probably fly through Disney (mostly flat) if time is important to you...Personally, I've decided that I'll save my PR for a race where I really don't want to be on the course that long :thumbsup2

Don't know if that helps, but just wanted to give you my opinion :goodvibes
Good luck & enjoy the weekend either way~!

Interesting perspective....

I really love the entertainment piece that Disney offers, but I have not ever spent much time smelling the roses at the Mouse House. I agree that the first marathon is a very special event and one really needs to keep their eyes and ears open and soak in as much as they possibly can. Sadly, every other marathon in a runner's life will be compared to the first marathon. Make the first one a GREAT one!

I will look out for you. Don't get me started on the weather lol. I guess thatnwill be my next obsession after corrals:laughing:

I love this! I'm going take this advice.

Thank you very much! Congratulations on completing your 2nd marathon. This will not be my first marathon, but it has been 7 years since I ran my last one. During that race I was so focused on time and just getting through it, that I did not enjoy the experience. I agree with saving the PR for a different course. :thumbsup2 Best of luck to you too!

If I were you...fast....I would do what some others do...get on a ride in AK if its open when you get there...some people go on the massive roller coaster ride while doing the marathon!

Get off around mile 15 for a McFlurry at McDonalds...just cause.

Get a drink...whatever it is at Epcot before you cross the finish line.

In the meantime take photo ops...if you are fast and in the A coral then you wont have to worry about dreadfully lone q's.

Enjoy it.

But that's me.

I'm over 1.5 hours slower than the poster in question, and when I ran the full in 2012, AK wasn't open yet when I went through. Nor was World Showcase (assuming that's where you'd have to buy a drink). In fact, at that pace, none of the parks would be open before they finish. But plenty of time for photo ops and a McFlurry!

That is something I would love to experience...by the time I get to AK, they are open...oh heck..they are ready to close...just joking but it seems like it.

I liked going through AK...they had some people out there behind the scenes with animals...cannot recall what they were but they were there as entertainment for the runners...I wanted to pet them but they said no.

Okay so for the FAST runners than I say...enjoy it...take the photos...and do the McFlurry thing...just cause.

Just as info.....

Pretty much only those in the last quarter to third of the new marathon configuration are going to be able to ride Everest. A runner crossing at 0600 (about 2/3 back) would be on pace for a 6+ hour marathon at Everest (mile 12.9). Of this last 25% of the runners, I would never advise the last half or so of that group to stop for anything other than a potty break, green stuff (BioFreeze) or a photo op. Actually sitting for 5 minutes in a ride car could easily be a race ender.

Though for those who are in the sweet spot, the small revision to the 2014 course takes us within 30 feet of the Primeval Whirl entrance. Oh and about the same distance from Kali River Rapids. Ok the latter here is not so good idea unless the weather is like today; 86F - 82F at 1100.

I'm running the Goofy and according to the waiver I'm bib# 21326. I did submit a time from a marathon I did in October, which was 4:22.50. This will be my 11th marathon but first time running Goofy (this will also be a family vacation) so the goal is just to have fun and take lots of pictures.

Honestly, I'm not really concerned where I'm at in the corrals, I just didn't want to be in the last one, which I know I'm not based on my previous marathon finish time.

I think with Disney as long as you submit a verifiable time you don't have to worry about being in the last corral.
