OMG... the prices are astronomical ! As much as I love our fido, I'm not so sure I can afford her travelling with us anymore. I mean it would be great for her to have all of these luxuries...but the price tag is :scared1: A LOT!!! We tried Epcot Kennels last Dec and thought the prices/care were very reasonable! We are DVC members and I think I paid somewhere around $16/nite. Now it seems it is 2X more!!! Our kennel home is way less. I wonder what others are thinking... Perhaps anyone have a kennel near WDW, maybe a small private one they may recommend?

Yea, the prices are higher...but they do offer way more services than before. I would pay those prices as long as my dogs were looked after!

But for those who don't want to pay those prices, I'm sure there are other kennels. I will do a search and see what I can find.

What I meant is comparing them to the WDW Parks Kennels, they got real expensive! I'm sure the costs were astronomical to build these state of the art facilities. We had left our then 10 week old puppy first time ever ( during a suprise Xmas trip 2009 for our kids) and feel that the Epcot kennel really did look after her. We were at the kennel on a daily basis for about an hour a day, too! My experience at the Epcot kennel was awesome. We bought her a treat each day, and was thrilled with the service we got for that price then. We wanted the new puppy near us as she was tiny and just new. We thought leaving her behind alone in our neighborhood kennel would not be such a great idea at such a young age w/o seeing us. :cloud9: All the workers loved her, played with her, etc! Now, I am hoping to be able to afford this, as we stay 10 days min. each trip! We will need to budget this expenditure in with our vacations :headache:

Found this news today on the Daily Disney...

Pamper your pets at Disney World’s luxury kennel opening Aug. 27

Walt Disney World has begun accepting reservations for its new kennel — Best Friends Pet Care Resort — which opens Aug. 27 and replaces other Disney kennels.

The facility, which is located across from Disney’s Port Orleans Resort, will house as many as 270 dogs and 30 cats for daytime and overnight boarding. Dog owners can choose from air-conditioned indoor rooms, 48-square-foot indoor-outdoor suites, and four expansive VIP (very important pet) suites with television, raised bedding and private outdoor yards. Feline guests will spend their visit in the separate “Kitty City” pavilion – away from the dogs – in two- and four-room condos.

The resort’s exclusive dog park features a fenced walking trail bordering the natural wetlands around the park. Inside the trail, guests can choose from a variety of different play areas, including a 3,300-square-foot area covered in artificial turf, a 4,500-square-foot area with shade trees and a 1,300-square-foot “canines only” water park. There are several large areas for owners to sit, relax and watch their dogs play. The entire park is secured from outsiders and is illuminated for use after dark.

Other features of the resort include: a grooming salon, which will provide go-home-fresh baths and haircuts for pets; two 1,100-square-foot “camp rooms” for play group and doggy day camp, each opening onto an outdoor play yard; and a special facility for the boarding of “pocket pets,” such as hamsters, guinea pigs, rabbits and ferrets.

Pet parents can choose from a wide range of a la carte activities for pet guests from one-on-one playtimes and social playgroup with other doggy guests, to cuddle time and bedtime stories with staff. Additional amenities and upgrades include ice cream treats, bottled water and premium/orthopedic bedding. Feline guests can also enjoy private playtimes, activity toys in their suites and treats such as cookies and milk or tuna on a ritz.

Dog stays begin at $37 per night ($34 for resort guests), which includes indoor boarding with two potty walks. At the high end, the VIP suites go for $76 per night ($69 for resort guests). Cat owners will pay $23 ($21 for a resort guest) for a two-level condo and $32 ($30 for a resort guest) for a four-level condo per night.

Prices are less for daytime boarding, and discounts are given for pets sharing suites. Get more details at wdw.bestfrienspetcare.com or 877-4-WDW-PETS.

It is probably some repeat of already reported news, but it doesnt hurt to share!

With the resort guest and multi-dog discounts, I'm only paying $10 more a night than I would at home. It's worth that for us to be able to go check on them and let them play in the new areas where owners can walk them and play with them.

One quick question, I know lots of people hate Orlando water; what about the dogs? Will changing thier water make them sick? I do *not* wasnt to have to pay $10 a day for two dogs to get bottled water.

::surfweb: I just got off the phone with Best Friends to clarify a few things. Since we made our upcoming Christmas/New Year's arrangements back in January our dates and rates will be grandfathered in. :woohoo: There is no question about our dog going with us - he's been boarded at the TTC (MK) kennel 6 times already and the staff has always treated him wonderfully. The new rates will apply for his stay next summer, though. We'll simply just have to increase the boarding budget. And I like that he'll get a bath before the 12+ hour journey back home.

A previous post mentions V.I.Pet Resort. We used one of their facilities when we had an off-property day. One of the TTC previous staff members works at the John Young Parkway location and our dog went to spend the day there. It was excellent. There is another location at 6600 Kingspointe Parkway which is in the Doctor Phillips / Sand Lake area. That location is about a 15 minute drive from Downtown Disney. If the quality of care is the same at all V.I.Pet locations I would recommend it as an alternative. :surfweb:

Hello! Florida water is so gross! Lol! So I go to walmart and buy some gallons of spring water. The staff didn't have an issue at all with thei own water! Then I took bottled water when I would walk them out of the kennel!

Great news on the rates! That former BFPC employee at the VIP resort...was it Jaunita do you know? Really sweet super caring gal with a great attitude? If so...she always took care of my boys at the TTC kennel. Her and Lenora! Love those girls!

Yep! That's her. :thumbsup2 We visit our dog quite frequently while we're there so we've gotten to know most of the staff. :lmao: I read on another thread somewhere that Disney CM's aren't allowed to accept tips or gifts. Soon after we checked in for our last stay I asked if it also applies to them. I was informed in a hurry that it doesn't apply to them and that they love food. :rotfl2:

Oh my! She used to text and email me a lot. My oldest pom Taz wasn't really friendly...so she would sit in front of his crate and sing You are my sunshine to him to make him calm! She was really good. Lenora would take my t

hen 14 week old yorkie..Rascal and put him in her shirt pocket and walk around with him! Those two gals are so great with them! I have sent them gifts thru the mail. Lol!
We usually go about every 4 hours to walk them! We love our furbabies!

I just got off the phone with Lenora at the TTC kennel and she told me a few things about the new one!

She said the VIP suites are HUGE with an outdoor patio and it is big big big!
ITs a nice size place with big regular suites!

They will do a multi-dog discount for more than 1 dog in the VIP suite...so with all my dogs its gonna be a nice discount!

They are not finished with it yet, but will be really soon!

They do DVC and AP discounts as well. I will have more info when she emails me back!

;)

Hi there! :wave2:

I made reservations a few days ago at the new facility for our little toy schnauzer, Riley Belle, for our September trip. Usually we board her at one of the Pet Paradise Pet Resorts in Houston that are located near the two airports. This trip we are driving so it would've been a big inconvenience to drive over an hour west to Houston then double back for the 15 hour drive to WDW. I've been ever-so excited about the new pet resort coming to WDW as it gives our little furry girl the same caliber of boarding as what she's accustomed to. When I initially read about the plans for this facility I was curious what the rates would be. After looking around at several of their other facilities similar to what the new one would be and adding a few $$ due to it being at WDW (everything's a little bit more $$) I was guess-timating the basic rates to start at about $40/night. I wasn't far off the mark.

I reserved the Basic Indoor/Indoor Villa which includes an indoor 4x8 "bedroom" w/an attached indoor "patio" for her potty needs & 2 walks per day. I was quoted $37/night for the regular rate but we are APers so we are getting it for $32/night. That's $1/night less than we pay at the Pet Paradise in Houston.

I also was told about the Vacation Villa which has an 8x9 "bedroom" w/attached outside area for potty needs, includes 1 walk, 1 play group, & the flat screen tv w/continually running movies. I was quoted $51/night with the AP discount.

The sweet girl I spoke with started to give me the particulars for the VIP Suite but I didn't write down all those perks as I did with the others because I knew we wouldn't spend that kind of money on boarding. She did say it has the live webcam so you can look in on your fur baby(s) anytime day or night via the internet.

I asked about extra group play sessions: $15/30 minutes. Our "home" resorts charge $15 for 3 half hour sessions so that seemed a little steep. It'll be nice having our dog right there on property so we can make time for play visits. That'll reduce the need to pay for group playtime daily. And, I like that they designate such nice areas for family visits. That's wonderful!

A big perk over our "home" resorts is that we can bring blankets & toys from home. Where we usually go doesn't allow blankets or plush toys unless they are brand new with tags (something about trying to maintain a flea-free environment). I plan to put a bunch of Riley's blankets in my bed a couple days before the trip to give them that "at home" smell then seal them up in zip lock bags. We'll refresh her blankets every few days so she can always feel at home.

Anywhoo, just wanted to share the info I got when I called earlier this week. I'm very excited about having our girl closer to us where we can visit as we wish and have her along for the drive. I'm not at all having a problem with the cost as it's actually less than what I normally pay per night. Plus, after talking to the girl who was working at the Epcot location when we spoke I feel a bit more comfortable leaving Riley in a new place. She sounded extremely caring and took a lot of time talking to me about everything.

Thank you for all that great info! Sounds like you got some inside info! LOL

I am really interested in the VIP suite. All 3 of my boys will be in one suite, so I will have to get the big one. :) They will love that! The only thing they wont need is my oldest Pom wont do the play group, he is very finicky! But my other 2 will surely do it!

I think the prices are not bad at all. At the TTC kennel, I always paid 5.00 extra for like 2 more walks, so it all comes out about the same. oh..and the live webcam? OMG...how awesome is that??? My DH will have his DROID, so that is surely a plus!

Im sure your Riley will love it! We are headed there Labor Day, when are you going? Whoever has pics first better post em! LOL :woohoo:

Yes, please post pictures when you go. After going to the two "best" boarding places in our area, my girls decided the dogs are definitely going with us. They were admament before that the dogs were staying home. Now they are really nervous about boarding the dogs anywhere....even Disney. Photos would really help us.

Thanks!!!

I sure will! IF anyone goes before me, then please post as well! :) Im so excited! LOL

Cuddletime $8 for 10 min
Walk & Explore $8 for 10 min
Bottled Water $5 per day
Bedtime Story $6 per story
Ice Cream Break $4 each

would someone really pay for this ...I mean really ? How would you know if the "kids" really got the service ?

Ruthie

I just booked my 6 month old puppy to stay at Epcot for 4 nights at the end of this month. First we were going to have a petsitter and it was too expensive. Then we looked into kennels near our home, again $40 a night for 2 weeks.

I also am not comfortable leaving her for so long without seeing us so we are taking her along on our road trip. Staying at LaQuinta's along the way.

After reading about the flea situation, I'm starting to freak out a little. Our dog is on k9 advantix. Will that be enough?
Also I'm just worried about boarding her in general.
Please talk me down!!
Thanks!
