Am I the only person on this board, whose mother, when I did not want to swallow pills told me that I had better swallow it or she would smack me so hard, it would go down whether I wanted to swallow it or not? My mother never coaxed or cajoled us into doing anything.

Some mothers read Dr. Spock. My mother read "The Art of War."

I guess my mom was just a zero tolerance, take no prisoners sort of gal. :rotfl2:

Are we twins, did we have the same mother?

I'm here!!!:yay: :yay: :dance3: :wave2:

I've been busy planning a diving trip for August. I'm going to the FL Keys (Key Largo) to dive for 4 days and then down to Key West for a couple of days. I have a friend in Indianapolis that I dive with so we're going together. It's a risk to plan a trip to FL in August, I know, but we just decided to throw caution to the winds and go for it!

The monsoon looks like it's getting a little closer each day. Today I could see some really big thunder heads off in the east and it's been cloudier each day for the past few days. Not sure when the rain will start, but at least the clouds block the sun and it seems a little cooler. :cool1:

Hi Cheri,
Trip sounds wonderful, bet you can hardly wait! I'm not ready to go diving yet, but I can hardly wait for an opportunity to snorkel again!

We had quite a thunderstorm here today. A huge black cloud rolled in and soon covered us...rain poured and the electricity went out at work. When I left, our computers were still down :worried: Not sure what I'll find in the morning :confused3 The storm passed fairly quickly though, and it's just a nice summer night out now.

When one of my older brothers was about 5 he was at a friends house. He and his friend found two bottles of the orange baby aspirins. They each ate an entire bottle. When the mom figured it out she called my mom.

My mom called the doctor and he said to stick her finger down his throat so he would throw up. Well he bit my mom. She called the doctor again and he said to mix up mustard and water and make him drink it. Well he LIKED that and asked for more. So my mom called the doctor again and he said she would have to bring him to the hospital and have his stomach pumped.

She put him in her brand new car and YUP....the mustard started to work and he threw up all over her BRAND NEW CAR!! Mustard and Orange Aspirin...SO GROSS!!!

I thought I had a story but that is GROSS!

I called Human Resources to get my retirement set up today! :cool1: July 24, that's it! ::yes:: I have to call in the morning and get an rv site set up for the nights after the house sells until we can head out.

:thumbsup2 Leave it to CONNIE!!

This is a much better idea than trying to teach him to swallow grains of cooked rice. M&Ms!!:cool1:

(I think smilies look like M&Ms.)

If Tyler thinks they are too big, let him start with the mini M&Ms!!

YAY CONNIE:yay:

Jan :earsgirl:

Oh, JAN! I am going to give you a new job......to write something nice about me everyday! Sometimes I just need a little boost.......Thanks for your kind words.....

My mom wasn't quite that tough, but when she said we had to do something, it wasn't open for discussion! She didn't tolerate a smart mouth, either. I remember getting my face slapped a couple of times! I guess that sounds harsh by today's standards, but I have always appreciated that she and my dad valued good manners and taught us how to behave in public.

Oooooooo! I haven't thought about those in years! They DID taste good! Do they still make those?

No and I wish they did BUT I understand why they don't!

I plan on having him practice with something. He doesn't eat rice, but it could just be something as simple as me breaking off a tiny bit of anything he's eating and asking him to practice swallowing it with a drink of milk or water. After all, he probably swallows chunks of unchewed food much larger than a little pill. ;) He'll be fine after the first time.... no worries.

You will do just fine! and so will he! :cool1:

Woody,
Please thank Mrs Woody for the wonderful pics!!! I will never forget my wonderful day snorkelling with you both, and Cheri and Jackie :thumbsup2 I got loads and loads of mail on Tuesday! Seems my mailman was on vacation about the same time as me. He saw a note when he got back that I had cancelled delivery until after the 25th...Well that was after May 25 not June 25th!!! He thought it was June 25th so I haven't been getting any mail until my son saw him this week and ran out to ask where my mail was going :confused3 :rotfl2: I was going to call them, but my son beat me to it. So reality hits, no cruise this month but lots of bills...but also some wonderful memories of this cruise, pics of the snorkelling and my pics from the outdoor adventure arrived :yay:

:rotfl2: :rotfl2:

If so, she was mighty busy!

If I told my mother I was bored, she would say, "You're bored? Go bang your head in the wall, then you won't be bored."

(Unfortunately, I am probably giving a false impression of my mother. She was extremely loving and very protective of us. She also read to me every night and is probably how I got my love of books. She also was very proud of and fostered creativity in her kids. She was also extremely funny.

She just wasn't very tolerant and had a tongue that could stun at 20 paces and kill at 10 paces.)

I have my doors and windows open and the fans on. One of the best things about living up here is that the evenings are almost always cool enough to do that. And if it's storming, it's even nicer!:cloud9:

Angie, how exciting!!!:cool1: :cool1:

I got THE package, just in time for the forth. I will send a check tomorrow.

That's how my mom was. But we used to have those orange aspirins that tasted so good you wanted to eat them even when you didn't have a fever.

Speaking of moms.......today my mom went in to the doctor's office and they took her blood pressure......239/119!!!!!!!
It's amazing that she hasn't had a stroke; the nurse wanted her to wait to see the dr. but she wouldn't do it, she drove home! The nurse called me on my cell phone when I was at work because my mom didn't answer the phone when the nurse called my mom's house check on her. Well, I called, and mom just didn't feel like answering her phone! :furious:

How was she with your situation, if you don't mind me asking. I wonder how it was in earlier years.

Vanessa wrote us a long letter and left it in her room. She told me as she got on the airplane where to find the letter. Gretchen and I decided to wait till Annie, Don and Daniel get home from camping on Sunday so we can all read it together. I know I will cry and by Sunday I should be more able to control my emotions.

   I can only imagine how hard it was to say goodbye after all of the special times you shared together over the last year. I'm sure none of you will ever forget them....and that someday you will meet up again
