Watching Bill Clinton at Convention

It's so refreshing to listen to a public political figure who does not speak in "redneckese". Clinton is truly charismatic and inspirational. The whole evening gave me such a positive sense of hope for our country. I wish I could have been there.

No Bush bashing. Hopefully that will help win voters. Hilary was amazing too, wasn't she.:sunny:

::yes::

He is an excellent speaker. I find it difficult to listen to Pres. Bush because of his speaking style. I end up thinking he's doing a Saturday Night Live parody of himself.

Wow, thanks for posting that part of the speech! I really feel bad that I didn't get to see it live!

Hillary is amazing! I didn't see her either but saw a little clip of her responding to Teresa Heinz Kerry's "shove it" remark. She's such a strong person and very down to earth(I think!)

I guess I will have to try to catch it tonight!

Oh my gosh! You mean he's not?!?!

:rotfl: <---- I crack myself up! (That's all that matters, right? :p )

I dang near cried when Bill came out - I miss hearing him speak!!

I found his remarks about Bush, Cheney, and him avoiding going to Vietnam but Kerry chose to go......DH and I were applauding!

Thanks, ThreeCircles!

And yes, I too am tired of the "experts!" How do you get to be an expert anyway?

ITA::yes:: ::yes:: ::yes:: His speech last night was absolutely wonderful!!! And Hillary's was almost as good! I also loved Jimmy Carters remarks as well as Gore's. I really think last night was a great kickoff for the convention and the the next 100 days.

And I too would love to be able to vote for Clinton again, who knows though maybe we'll get a chance to vote for Hillary in a few years!

I love watching the Clintons speak. President Clinton just has a way with a crowd and is an amazing public speaker. I loved watching him last night

My father said this about experts.

"X" is an unknown in algerbra...

A "spurt" is a drip that's under presure...

...so an "X-Spurt" is an unknown drip under presure!

Everyone was really good last night, but wait until tonight. The rest of the country is about to discover Barack Obama and what an amazing man he is. Brilliant and such a good man, he is giving the keynote speech tonight and I can't wait. Mark my words, he will run for Pres one day and I believe he will be the first African-American President in this country!

Wow I am so happy I read this thread. I loved his speech and miss him as President. But he's such a polarizing figure I wasn't quite sure what to expect reading this, and after recieving emails from my Republican family bad mouthing his speech, I really didn't want to hear any more of that and hesitated opening this thread. I'm new to DisBoards and just checked out this forum looking for advice on where to get a countdown ticker for my trip. Makes me love these boards even more!

I thought his speech was absolutely wonderful! I agree with other posters that I truly miss having a president that is well spoken!

I loved how he spoke to the audience and stilll made the TV audience feel as though we were a part of it all too!

Wonderful!

 Hi newbie - I think you will find that the DIS is a good representation of a cross section of America. There are Republicans here and Dems and in betweeners. No one side dominates just like in the country right now. Its a tight race.

NPR was saying this morning that Barack Obana may just be a very near future Vice presidential contender. I think its still a little ways off for him to be President, but given that Edwards is really a newbie Senator chosen to run for Vice President, it is possible that Barack could be tapped shortly after becoming a Senator too. Charisma is the name of the game and he has it in spades.

I said it here a week or so ago...Kerry, Edwards, Obama !!!!!!!

I wasn't thinking that Barack Obama would run soon, I am thinking he will declare to run in his 2nd term as Senator. That will give him the time to develop a national reputation. I think the really interesting aspect will be the glut of Dems and who will run when, think about it, Edwards, H. Clinton and Obama all have good prospects. It has been a while since the Dems had such a good "farm team"!

I could get flamed for admitting this but I miss Clinton. Problems aside, he was alright IMO.

I always get chastized for admitting how great of a President I thought he was.

I cried to watch him leave the office and sent him (white house staff) an email that said I was Proud that he was our President, that I voted for him twice, and I thought he was the best President of my lifetime (thus far).

I guess Bill still has a fan club!

I don't care for Clinton's politics and I won't be voting for Kerry, but as a Republican, I have to admit, Clinton is the best political public speaker out there by far. The man can "work" a crowd like no one else.

Fox News called him the "Rock Star" of the Democratic Party last night - and I think that's quite appropriate.

As another Republican, I have to admit that I agree with you about Mr. Clinton.

BUT I still cannot stand Hillary. Also, her speech/public speaking wasn't even half as good as her DH's!

Having met President Clinton when he autographed his book, I can vouch for his charisma in person. He was so charming, shaking everyones' hand and thanking us for coming:) He is so good looking with his white hair and blue eyes :smooth:

I'm a Democrat at heart, married to a Republican. How did that happen? DH reviles Clinton, so I don't talk about him, but I love the man. He's intelligent, charismatic, and I truly believe that he and Hilary have always felt a calling to serve our country. Carter is the same type of man, though he lacked the charisma. They will worry about their "legacies" too, they are human after all. But as I asked my husband, "don't you want your President to be smarter than you are?"
