Wow...I almost forgot what a great speaker he can be. I wish we could reelect him again!

Friggin term limits...who's bright idea was that?

I love Bill too! I didn't see his speech though, I heard he was wonderful though!

Yeah, who's idea was the term thing anyway?!!! If someone can win an election, why not?

Hey, Bush wants to change the constitution, while he's at it, maybe he can change that too!

Personally, I think it is a wise precaution. Our entire system of government is designed to avoid the worst. As such, why not protect against popular tyranny occupying the highest office in the land? The Presidency is the one office in which the most power is concentrated in the US government. Given the principles upon which this nation was founded, it seems only logical to me to guard against any one person occupying that office for a long time.

Without term limits maybe Ron would have stayed around a term or 2 longer ::yes::

1 - Couldn't agree more about Bill last night...He's at his best when speaking extemporaneously, and he was definitely off the monitor a time or two ::yes::

2 - That said, I not only think their should be term limits on the presidency, but on the congress as well. Congressmen and senators that remain in office for twenty or thirty years simply acquire too much power in their own hands, and it makes the system malfunction slightly. For example, do you think a freshman minority senator from a small state such as my own really has an equal voice with Bill Frist ? That's what the senate was SUPPOSED to have, but that's not how it works. Unfortunately, if a state was to impose term limits on their own representatives, they'd be at a serious disadvantage to other states who's senators and congressmen don't have that limit.

The only office that should be permanent is that of Supreme Court Justice, in my opinion.

He is an amazing speaker particularly after listening to GB for the last 4 years. I'm reading his book and it's really fasinating.

I could get flamed for admitting this but I miss Clinton. Problems aside, he was alright IMO.

Clinton's speech was a good one. Hopefully he'll get involved in one way, shape or form with the new administration in January.

the clintons are the ultimate power couple. sahe was magnificent last night and he was even better.

I didn't see his speech last night. I still remember the one he gave at the convention in 2000 in LA. The camera was constantly on him as he walked from the "green room" to the podium. He reminded me of a pro wrestler entering the arena. :D

Politics aside, Bill knows how to handle the camera.

Term limits. I like the idea, but it is abused at the state level in Ohio. Once term limits expires they run for another office (Example, attorney general can't run due to term limits, so she runs for Secretary of State). Or state rep moves to another district and runs for state senate.

This part cracked me up:

Now, now at a time when we're trying to get other people to give up nuclear and biological and chemical weapons, they are trying to develop two new nuclear weapons which they say we might use first.
At home, the president and the Republican Congress have made equally fateful choices, which they also deeply believe in.
For the first time when America was in a war footing in our whole history, they gave two huge tax cuts, nearly half of which went to the top 1 percent of us.
Now, I'm in that group for the first time in my life.
And you might remember that when I was in office, on occasion, the Republicans were kind of mean to me.
But as soon as I got out and made money, I became part of the most important group in the world to them. It was amazing. I never thought I'd be so well cared for by the president and the Republicans in Congress. I almost sent them a thank you note for my tax cuts until I realized that the rest of you were paying the bill for it. And then I thought better of it.
Now look at the choices they made, choices they believed in. They chose to protect my tax cut at all costs while withholding promised funding to the Leave No Child Behind Act, leaving 2.1 million children behind.
They chose to protect my tax cut, while cutting 140,000 unemployed workers out of their job training programs, 100,000 working families out of their child care assistance, and worst of all, while cutting 300,000 poor children out of their after-school programs when we know it keeps them off the streets, out of trouble, in school, learning, going to college and having a good life.
They chose -- they chose to protect my tax cuts while dramatically raising the out-of-pocket costs of health care to our veterans and while weakening or reversing very important environmental measures that Al Gore and I put into place, everything from clean air to the protection of our forests.
Now, in this time, everyone in America had to sacrifice except the wealthiest Americans. And most of us, almost all of us, from Republicans to independents and Democrats, we wanted to be asked to do our part, too. But all they asked us to do was to expend the energy necessary to open the envelopes containing our tax cuts. Now, if you like these choices and you agree with them, you should vote to return them to the White House and the Congress. If not, take a look at John Kerry, John Edwards and the Democrats. We've got a different economic policy. Continued...

I forgot about Hillary's speech...She had the funniest non-political line of the night, saying, after receiving a huge ovation, that she was "almost speechless" in reference to her not being initially asked to speak at the convention at all :rotfl:

I don't care for Clinton's politics and I won't be voting for Kerry, but as a Republican, I have to admit, Clinton is the best political public speaker out there by far. The man can "work" a crowd like no one else.

Fox News called him the "Rock Star" of the Democratic Party last night - and I think that's quite appropriate.

Everyone's speech blew me away last night. I was lucky enough to tune in CSPAN, alternated with PBS, where I was treated to the speeches in their entirety sans having to listen to the "experts' comments. ( Is anyone else sick to death of the pre-programmed experts? ) Gore's speech hit exactly the right note. As a man who seldom says anything negative about others, Carter's was incredibly moving. Clinton's speech was truly inspired. I sat in a room by myself and applauded...literally applauded them.

Yup,
he was great!!!
Over here in Europe a large majority hopes that he will give Kerry enough additional boost to bring him right to the White House.

That man is a magnet. It's truly dramatic.

Yup! I too miss having a Prez that can speak in complete thoughts and use words with more than 3 syllables! ::yes::

It's funny, the Reps put forth the amendment that limits the Prez's terms to 2, but they would have (most likely) benefitted the most from leaving it alone, as several Rep Prez's were popular enough to be elected to more than 2 terms, especially Regan. Talk about shooting yourself in the foot!

I have to admit that as someone who did not vote for Clinton either time, and will not vote for Kerry either, that the former President knows how to work a crowd and deliver a good speech. I disagreed with a lot of what he had to say, but he did an excellent job delivering the message.
