Watching Bill Clinton at Convention

I was unimpressed with Hilary and the entire "pre-speech" segment on 9/11. There have been so many better-executed and compassionate memorials to that day, IMO Glenn Close began the slide by mispronouncing several words and reading it off the prompter like a robot.

Dreadful first 45 minutes until Bill came out. (we watched it on NBC at 9CST.)

 Diana, that's VERY funny, true even!

I love both of the Clintons! I find him to be extremely charismatic, never makes you feel like you don't matter and never tries to use words that he think might have a meaning!

Does anyone happen to know what time the keynote speaker is supposed to speak? I want to catch it, even if it means taking my dd away from her beloved diseny channel....

It was wonderful to listen to Bill again. He was in fine form and I enjoyed every minute of his speech.

Beattyfamily - I agree with you about Hillary. There's a lot about that woman that I can't stand. She's clearly intelligent, but her public speaking skills are nowhere close to her husband's.

By the way, everyone, OT, I know - but Bill O'Reilly will be interviewing Michael Moore tonight on the The O'Reilly Factor. It was taped yesterday. That should be interesting to see!

oooh, thanks for the OT info! My DH watches that faithfully every night! Should be interesting to say the least!::yes::

maybe he doesnt speak "redneckese" but he sure ACTS like one. just ask anyone who lived in Arkansas while he was governor. We knew LONG before anyone else that he couldnt keep his pants on, there were so many rumors about women you couldnt keep em straight

AND GOD HELP US IF HILARY RUNS!!!!

It was an electrifying evening. Didn't Bill Clinton look wonderful? Just goes to show how the weight of that office can age a person. Can't understand why anyone would want the job!

I was fortunate enough to meet him just before his first election, and he was very gracious and charismatic in person.

Barbeml - you're right. That job really ages people, doesn't it? Again, I don't care for his politics, but Clinton did look tanned and much better last night than when he was at the end of his second term.

It's so refreshing to listen to a public political figure who does not speak in "redneckese". Clinton is truly charismatic and inspirational

First of all, the funny thing is that Clinton grew up a lot more like a redneck than GWB did! I mean, do you really think that they mispronounced "nuclear" and "librarian" or called Greeks "Grecians" at Andover, Yale & Harvard? Where did he get that from? It's too funny. (I once heard it called the Faux Bubba effect.)

As for Clinton's charisma, well, he is so amazing. Living in NH, we get a lot of access to the candidates, and my mom worked on the 1992 campaign, and let me tell you, he just lights up a room. It's fascinating bc there is no pretense to it, it's just who he is. And he is so smart, it's scary.

Hillary is not as charismatic, but she is much warmer in person than on TV. When her husband speaks to a crwod, it's like he's only talking to you. She tends to be more forced, it does not come easily or naturally to her, and you can tell. But she's even smarter than he is, and that's really scary!

Loved, loved, loved it! As others have said, I found myself cheering, particulary at the parts where he's now being "taken care of" by the other party and the "SEND ME!!!!" chant.

All around, a very energenic night for the Dems.

Much looking forward to RR Jr's speech tonight.

Presdient Clinton is one of the Presidents who is a very good public speaker.

I was almost afraid to come back to this thread. It's so nice to see that almost everyone being polite and not bashing him. Especially the Republicans who didn't like him said nice things. :D

Just remember that when the Republican Convention rolls around ;)

:D I may not like the current President but I don't speak ill of him. It's disrespectful.

While I have never supported Clinton (either of them), nor do I care for them ( I think Clinton is a joke), I do have to admit that he is a great speaker.

I missed Hillary but woke up in time for Bill's speech. LOVED it. He has such true charisma.

I also LOVED Jimmy Carter's speech. For an almost 81 year old man, he was sharp, deep and never strayed off. He was amazing.

GoldenGate, I missed meeting Bill Clinton last week... :(... he was here signing his book and the line was around the block at 6 in the morning! There was NO WAY I could tolerate standing there with an 11yo...... so I missed him. My Mom was his biggest fan (she called Gore and Clinton "her boys") and I felt if I met him I would be glorifying her memory... :(

One day! :p

When you guys are done, I'll pass out the cigarettes. Actually, I'm thinking a great big bucket of cold water would be good right about now.
