As Chuck S previously posted in another thread:

...most DVC members are "Disney" people, they spend time and money in the parks, and appreciate the benefits that we do receive. And rumor has it, Disney may increase those benefits to further distance DVC from Fairfield...
It would appear to me that, when conversing with a DVC guide, a subtle mention of your intention to tour Fairfield's Bonnet Creek property might go a long way toward increasing our membership benefits.

Any thoughts?

I wouldn't think mentioning it to your guide would convince DVC to offer better benefits.

I think it would all come down to sales---if SSR sales drop because of Bonnet C sales. Then I suppose DVC would have to do something.

After seeing and reading about Bonnet C, however, I do not think DVC has anything to worry about. At least not from me!!!!

DVC is MAGICAL. Bonnet Creek looks like an apartment complex to me---no theming!!!

That said, I would LOVE an AP discount :)

the MS say before the end of the year - I kept hoping that the annual pass to new add ons is not it.....

I really want a DVC discount on the annual pass, too!!!

I would like options on ticket discounts! For all the time and money we spend, I think that would be fair.

I'm not holding my breath for discounts nor do I expect any. It's not a matter of fairness for me. I bought a Disney timeshare and that's what I have. Would it be nice to receive some really good discounts? You bet and anything we can do to promote the idea that we should receive discounts is a great idea. If that means a gentle mention of Fairfield to a well placed person or a comment on how nice Universal Studio is, it can't hurt.

I would also suggest that members take advantage of discounts currently offered and then put that into your comment cards after your trip. Let them know you did what you did because of the discount and would have done more if more discounts were offered.

HBC - I am adding the Kona Cafe for a meal because of the DVC discount - it wasn't on my list for PS this time.

however I don't think you need to tell WDW anything (unless you are paying cash) - they are pretty good at finding out what you are spending money on and where....

this year for the Member gathering - I certainly did not tell DVC I was staying at PC - I was going to call when I got there and ask where I was to pick up the stuff.

Instead when I got there - there was a package awaiting me at the front desk and other things in the room....

very strange feeling believe me!!!

So no you don't need to tell DVC anything - they already know where and when we are spending our money....

SC: I agree with you that they know what you are doing. They keep very good records of everything. All I am saying is that we need to let them know that we did something because of the discount and that we would not have done it otherwise. That they don't know unless we tell them. They could surmise it, but I would rather put it into a comment.

Also many people pay cash for things like meals and get a discount because of DVC. That they would never know about unless we tell them.

My guess is this is not necessarily true. Even if we use cash for a discount we still provide our DVC card that has our member number on it.

We've totally changed the way we vacation down at Disney... we stay at the DVC resorts for the atmosphere, but we now spend a lot more time off site & it is a result of the ticket media pricing... AP's for four are 1600.00 & 7 day park hoppers would set us back 1100.00, so we bought PH's a while back & only use one day in the park's, this last time we went to MNSHHP & that bought us time there... without a sizeable discount we'll keep enjoying ourselves at Seaworld & Bush Gardens (and Universal in another year or so)....

I don't expect a discount, but unless I get one, our plans aren't changing.....

I am getting what I paid for. I would buy the AP either way so no difference there.....

I purchased our contract for 2 reasons.. I love DisneyWorld and to help fight the cost of the room which is getting to be a factor to alot of folks...

I got what I paid for and I love our purchase but I would love to see a discount on AP! We invite friends down with us almost every year and the cost of the entrance media is a put off for some.

Well since we are going to buy AP's next weekend you can bet it will be right after we fork over the $$.

It is our luck that we miss out so hoping they do it for ya'll!

We will take a year off from Disney and maybe do US, IOA. We did it like that a few years ago and a heck of alot cheaper!

I could send in about a jillion pictures from our days at Universal and SeaWorld if you think that would help... :teeth: Think they'll make it into Vacation Magic? ;)

When Disney sees a benefit to their bottom line, we'll see discounts. As members travel to Orlando year after year, eventually their time in the Disney parks will decrease and when Disney actually FEELS that decrease, we might get some discounts.

And if they decide to add some more perks to beat the competition - I'm certainly NOT going to complain! :smooth:

The only way we would buy APs is with a *significant* discount...I'd say 25% or more. We don't go often enough during the year to make it worthwhile (our plan is usually a week at WDW and a week at HH or VB). Currently we buy 7 day park hoppers and use about 3 days during a week in the World. I like my off days where I can spend it at the pool or shopping or seeing other things in Orlando.

Even if we did spend two weeks during the year, I can't see buying APs. First, it is a significant expense...not to mention that I would feel it necessary to go to the theme parks every day to make sure I'm getting my money's worth. That's not really something I want to do.

However, if the 25% discount is provided...I'd run the numbers. It might be worthwhile.

It does seem that mailing in ones pictures from off site visits might be helpful. I'll certainly do my part. I had planned a short trip in December and thought about getting an AP while I was at it.

Then I saw the Travel Channel's What's New in Orlando 2005. Thre is no question that Universal is a "must do" but Disney only has enough new that to keep me in the parks for 2 or 3 days. Even if I make the special events in Epcot I don't see myself in Disney for the minimum 8 days needed to make an AP. So its a hopper for me next time...and maybe an annual pass to Universal.

I doubt the guides, or DVC in general, are very threatened by the FF resort. I'd expect them to laugh in the back room after you're gone.

About the only perk I'd love to see is getting our ticket medium for Florida resident rates.

As far as Bonnet Creek....seen it, wasn't overwhelmed. Another poster mentioned it was like a big apartment complex...I agree. No theme, no style, no magic.

Universal...doesn't do it for me. There's a different "feel" to Universal...can't put my finger on it. but I don't get that "ahh" feeling when I walk through the gate like I do at WDW.

I am a Disney snob.:snooty: ;)

That's a pretty meager request but granted, it's more than what you have now.

Universal has an urban excitement feel to it for some reason. If you are looking to feel like you are getting away from it all urban probably isn't the way you want to go. Disney does a much better job of putting me back into the ways I thought when I was young...those 8 to 12 years when a book or movie could transport you away without the little "yeah, but" demon popping up. I love Universal for the urban feel but I couldn't spend a week there...but happily I don't need to! There is Sea World and all the rest of Orlando to explore and enjoy.

I look at the discounts and benefits as icing on the DVC cake. I don't expect anything more than my points. That being said, I do really appreciate the discounts that are currently offered, but certainly don't expect them.
