just watching it on TV right now as well - funny, but i thought he'd been dead over 10 years already....

ooohh, that's sad. :sad1: I didn't know. Thanks for posting.

Isn't that horrible when that happens. You don't know whether to feel bad because you already thought he was dead, or to feel bad now, since he is... and was obviously alive years longer than you thought... but you already thought he was dead... :upsidedow

really, i thought he WAS dead - had to look it up on Wikipedia as we were watching the TV broadcast just to be sure - always liked him, remember him on the news ever since i was a child - such a distinctive voice he had!

Okay,I have my local CBS affiliate on right now(WKMG) and they are showing Ghost Whisperer.

Sometimes specials only last for like 15 mins. There might be something on dateline which is next.

Very sad, my family used to watch him on the National News on CBS every night when I was kid. I missed him when he retired and loved his voice on Spaceship Earth. Enjoyed a lot of the things he did during semi retirement narrating things and all.

If you got a chance to see it years ago his narration in the Animation building with Robin Williams was a classic and so funny.

RIP Walter..you will be missed

I just editted the OP. I thought the special would be longer. As Cronkite was the anchor for the CBS Evening News, I think they wanted to break the news story first, as it would have been more appropriate for them to do so, scooping other news networks.

Katie said a "real" full special on his life would be this Sunday at 7pm(?) (I think?) on CBS.

And that's the way it is, Friday, July 17, 2009.

RIP, Uncle Walter.

RIP, Walter:angel:

Didn't he narrate the animation movie that they used to have at DHS? The cartoon with Robin Williams in Neverland?

I still miss his Spaceship Earth narration. Luckily, through the power of the interwebs, I am able to watch it whenever I feel like it.

I also thought he was dead. It is a bit strange because just today when I was speaking to someone at work about how terrorist bombings in Indonesia get less press coverage than a pop star's death I said "Walter Cronkite must roll in his grave every day". Uh, oops :confused3.

:sad1: That's exactly what I thought.

He is still very much a part of EPCOT, if only in the Holiday Illumniations Tag.

Hopefully it will remain this way for a long time to come......

I hope they keep this for a long time too. I dearly love it. But Illuminations is my favorite fw any day of the year anyway.

RIP, Walter Cronkite. Prayers said for his loved ones.
