Right now I am in a Cat. 11 for the Wonder 3 day January 3 cruise. I would prefer to upgrade to Cat 10 in a Secret Porthole room but they are all booked. Anyone here have one??? Anyway, would it be a good idea (or possible) to be put on a waiting list for one of them? Or do I just keep checking back? If there is a waiting list, does my travel agent handle that or do I call Disney Cruise line directly? Thanks for any information!
Ann

Don't know about a wait list, but we did discover if we called DCL and ask if secret porthole rooms were open, we were continually told "no". After a month of trying, we called and asked if specific room numbers were available (5520) and we got the room with only 2 months to sail.

Good luck!

Okay....what is a "secret porthole room"?!
Thanks in advance!

I think the secret porthole rooms are the cat 10 rooms that have obstructed/slightly obstructed views from the portholes. Something or other is slightly blocking the view. But, I understand they are very good views none the less for a cat 10 rate. I am pretty sure Dave has them listed on his sight, but I'm not 100% sure.

Wow! That's neat!
Thank you for telling me.
Dave has so many great things on his site!!!

Have a great day!

Check out Barb and Tony's site, too. "Inkkognito" They have pictures of the views from the different rooms. Go under the stateroom section.

For our upcoming cruise, we tried to get into one of these rooms, but we didn't want any adjoiners, so that left 2 rooms of the 6 available to us if they were not taken. Well, about a year out, the two rooms that we wanted were unavailable. One of the others were available(one of the adjoiners), but we declined. We were heart broken because we liked the idea of a window, but didn't want to pay for it. A few weeks later, we decided to pay for an upgrade to a category 9 on deck 2, so we could officially get a large window. We usually sail with category 11 (std inside).

THE MORAL OF THE STORY: It might not be a good idea to be tempted by a secret porthole room category 10 (deluxe inside), if one isn't available and therefore you'll have to pay to upgrade to a category 9 (deluxe oceanview). LOL!!!

Hope this helps.

When we booked our 2nd cruise for Feb. 2002, we had about 11 of us going so we wanted a connector room, so we booked 5522 and 5524 on the Magic, not knowing anything about secretportholed cabins, so after we first started looking at the boards did we notice that we had reserved 2 secret portholed rooms. We were not dissapointed with either view, So on our next cruise Feb. 2003 we are going by ourselves DW,DS, and myself, so we checked into the same cabin but 5522 and 5524 was booked, so we looked into the other side 5022 or 5024, and we were lucky to get 5022, we can't wait, could not beat the price at all.

Just came back from having 5020 on the Wonder (it and 5520 are the non-ajoiners with the least "obstructed" view). There have been some who have been concerned about noise (it's near the elevators), but we didn't hear any. It was also a great location. It's just down the hall from the Oceaneer's Lab and Club, and just up a flight of stairs from the Walt Disney Theatre. We booked it 16 months in advance, and hope to get it again when we cruise again in 3 or so years (we've started saving again).

One suggestion I have seen when you want a particular room is to call DCL late on the day that the 60 day final payment window "closes" or very early the next after the reservations system is updated. If someone has decided not to take the room and they want to avoid penalties, they will cancel that day and you just might be in luck.

I also have pics of two of the secret porthole rooms from our April 2002 --- check on my website.

gary in florida,

Well, if you're sailing 02/01/03 you'll be our next-cabin-neighbor. :bounce: I think you are looking at the 2002 calendar because I'm sailing on 02/01, not 02/02. Silly. When we sailed 02/2002 we had 5522 with the adjoiner 5524 (in-laws). It was nice. We shared wine before dinner through the adjoiner. They have pieces of wood that prop the doors open.

Here's to new friends.

kshabre - Nope, not looking at a 2002 calendar - we are sailing on 2/2/2003, but not on the Magic, on the 4 day Wonder. O well.

Well, it's your lucky day! Hope you have a good across-the-way neighbor just the same. Have a ball!!!
