For our next WDW vacation we want to go during October for MNSSHP and the Food and Wine Festival in Epcot. What week in October is the least crowded and/or warmest? (We'd like to visit one of the water parks.) Are there any other activities going on during October? Like do the resorts decorate or have activities for Halloween?

Thanks for sharing,

We went this past October.. we were there the 2-8. It was so much hotter than I thought it was going to be. We could of went swimming every day!!! MNSSHP is so AWSOME!!!!! We went twice becuase it was so much fun. I do not remeber seeing much decorations, we stayed at CSR.

Food and Wine was great!! It was a little crowded but not as bad as I thought it might be. I would maybe suggest a better time to go would be the end of Septmeber going into the first of October, the crowds might be a little lighter then but you will still be able to go to MNSSHP and F&W.

We will definatley go back again at this time!!!

We went this past Oct 14-21. The first weekend was very crowded but by Monday it was deserted. Lots of time to hit all the F&W booths with minimal line ups. Also our resort (SSR) pool was never crowded and never had full busses.

MNSSHP is fantastic. We love this time of year and will be back in Oct 2007.

We were just there Oct. 26-30th for a short trip. We LOVE WDW this time of year because it seems like you have the whole park to yourself!!

We've been to WDW on Columbus day weekend and found that weekend to be considerably warmer than the last weekend of October, but the cooler weather could have been brought on by the Hurricane Wilma which blew through a few days before we landed.

I would whole heartedly recommend going to WDW in Oct, so much so that we'll be back when my Hubby graduates with in his PhD in chemistry...in 2008ish. :(

I love Oct. Not too many people, not too hot (less than 90 degrees), plus it is so fun to be in WDW and see pumpkins and scarecrows in MK! Mind you, we did get quite chilled on our boatrides back to the resorts at night. Other than that, we swam; we ate at F&W; it was great!

We were at the BWV 10/8 - 10/13 for the Food and Wine Festival. I believe some of the schools have off for Columbus Day or something, thought it was crowded. Heat? We were sweatin' our fanny packs off! Loved the F&W Festival so much, we're headed by next year.

October has been the best for us. Weather has been great, warm enough for a little swim. Crowds not a problem and MNSSHP is a blast.
Try it you will like it.

I love Oct in WDW. We have been there for the last week in the past and it was terrific. I'm all booked for Oct. 21-26. We'll be celebrating dd's 13th b-day there, as well as her friends b-day. Her friend turns 13 the day after we get back home. The weather is terrific, and the crowds aren't too bad at all.

We love going in October. Its still warm but not like july or August.Lower crowds ,halloween party and much more going on.

Please elaberate on the "much more going on"! I don't want to miss anything because this will probably be our only chance to go in October, as we will only visit WDW in the future during our children's school breaks. (Once we start a family.)

I'm definatley looking forward to the light crowds.....We went to WDW a couple years ago Christmas week, and we'll never do that again!

Thanks for the replys,

We went this year Oct. 23-29, and we also went the same time frame 2 years ago...both times the parks were packed! The weather was nice in 2003, but this year, we had cooler weather brought on by Wilma. We went last year in Sept. and we loved how the crowds were then compared to Oct. The best thing was MNSSHP, we walked on to most rides. We didn't really experience much of what the Food and Wine Festival offered in Epcot. It was packed there that day that we went.

I remember reading that Disney increased the price of MNSSHP tickets for Halloween night because the park is the most crowded that night. So I can see why WDW would be crowded the last week in Oct. I'm planning on us going the first or second week in October to miss the Halloween crowd....

This is great to hear :) I just booked a trip for Columbus Day weekend '06. I've never been that time of year, so it's nice to hear these comments :)

Went October 22-29 this year. Had a blast! Arrived two days before Hurricane Wilma ("she" only closed the parks for part of one day). The day before the hurricane, it was hot, humid, and made me really crabby (I overheat pretty easily). The hurricane went through the next day, and the rest of the week was beautiful!!!! Mid-70's and not humid at all. Not quite hot enough for a lot of pool/water park time, though. But if it hadn't been for the hurricane, I think we would have wanted lots of pool time. The night before the hurricane, though, we had an absolutely torrential downpour! Went on Maelstrom, and in the 15 minutes we were inside the building, it went from pleasant, non-windy weather to torrential rain. Luckily, I have a poncho in my fanny pack, so I saved the 6 or 7 bucks that I would have spent on a Mickey poncho. We were all very waterlogged by the time we got back to the room. So be prepared - if you go in October, there's a good chance you might have a hurricane! I would recommend you go, anyways. We only got "grazed" the edge of the hurricane, and weren't impacted significantly at all.

Definitely go the the MNSSHP -- one of the highlights of our trip! We couldn't get over how cool it was to literally walk onto any ride at MK, with no wait at all. Definitely worth the extra fee. We didn't have little kids, so skipped the trick-or-treating and other kid activities. Loved the parade, though; the Pooh characters dressed in Halloween costumes were so cute! Eeyore in his mummy costume was hilarious.

And we went to the Food and Wine festival every day! Three out of four of our party went to the wine seminars/tastings. I don't drink wine, so didn't go to the tastings, but really enjoyed the food booths! Great chance to sample some great food.

Have fun planning your trip!

We went two times in October this year. The first time was a planned trip. It was from the 12th thru the 16th. It was pretty crowded at that time. Then we went again 2 weeks later thanks to Hurricane Wilma! It was so much less crowed then! I couldn't believe the difference! It was pretty nice. Hardly any crowds and very little wait! October is definitely a nice time to go though. I would recommend it to anyone...

We went Oct 29-Nov 4. This was our first fall trip and it was by far the best!
The crowds weren't bad and the weather was great. The nights could get a little chilly but the days were warm enough for swimming.
MNSSHP was the best part of our trip and the F&W festival was fun as well.

Have fun!

Terri

james15- Thanks for the additional information. I had no idea Sea World has a Halloween celebration....we'll probably go there for one day.

It's great to hear about others who have enjoyed the Food and Wine Festival. That and MNSSHP are the two main reasons for us planning an Octobter trip.

We were there October 14-23 this year. The weather was GREAT. Shorts every day. We didn't swim or do water parks, but we probably could have. There were people in the pool at Pop every time we walked by. Crowds were minimal, if there was a long wait we just got a Fast Pass. We went to MNSSHP on Sunday, Oct. 16 and it was great. Not too crowded at all! We joined Mr. Disney and a group of DISers for "Nosh Around the World" at Food & Wine Festival. We went on Monday and started right at 11 AM when the booths opened. No lines, very pleasant!

The worst day for crowds was Wednesday at MK! It was packed by noon so we went back to the resort. Then (silly us) we went back around 7:15 PM for Spectro. Wall to wall people, and it didn't thin out because it was EMH. We stayed for awhile but it was definitely crowded!

We would LOVE to go back in October, but unfortunately DS's school schedule won't allow another October visit. Enjoy your trip!

We went the 27th October in 2002 and could walk onto all the rides except for the Magic Kingdom on the last day of our week long trip (I think Jersey Week was just strating then)

I have booked us to go back the same week next year. I don't expect it will be as quiet as 2002 but am hoping it will be pretty good, We will be there for DH's birthday :cool1:
