The Vidalia Onion Act of 1986 established 20 counties in Georgia that comprise a grow region that is the only areas where a Vidalia Onion can be grown.

I was thinking the same thing - only sweet onions grown in the Vidalia area of Ga can be called Vidalia.

I only gave you a thumbs up for your second point. I totally disagree with you and feel that Canada has every right to boycott American products, and the country itself.

Targeted boycotts would be a better option than a blanket boycott IMHO. There are 340 Americans, 262 million did not vote for this.

Yes, the grapes don't come out of the ground all sparkling and bubbling. If you find some that are, don't eat them! They are fermenting on their own. The Champagne region developed the sparking fermentation process some 4 centuries ago. So, they have a protected trademark or what ever it's called over there. Also, the way their grapes grow is truly different than if you took vines from the same grapes and grew them elsewhere, say California.

That was aupposedly a Benedictine monk named Dom Pérignon. But there are different accounts that claim he had only figured out methods to control re-fermentation and that bubbly wasn't really a thing until the 19th Century.

In any case, there are quite a few excellent makers of sparkling wine in France outside of the Champagne reason. Some just sell as "Method Champenoise". Some claim that Crémant de Bourgogne is a great deal because it's grown near Champagne and has all the characteristics without the high price.
