VGC refurb?

Someone on Facebook was there and said it was mentioned very little. But that they said something about the VGC refurb overlapping with some refurbs on the hotel side.

I asked when I was there last week and a manager cast member said she thought 2025, but did not have exact dates but that she thought it was going to align with some refurb occurring on the hotel side.

It was first on the list, so I hope early in year. I not planning a reservation until December of next year.

Ugh. I booked end of Jan/early Feb 2025 fully anticipating we might be in the midst of refurb, and booked mid May thinking refurb would be completed. Now we still don’t know 🙄

So that table presented at the condo meeting is in order of the refurbs starting.
VGC should start in the spring. I don't have an exact date but March-April seems likely. (Hard Refurb) This one is already 2 years late.
CCV is supposed to be "late spring" so that means to me May timeframe. (Soft Refurb)
Tree houses I have not heard a timeframe, but assume summer time based on the others. (Due for Hard Refurb)
Kidani is supposed to be October,2025 and go for 9 months. (Hard Refurb)
Jambo is expected to start mid-2026. (Hard Refurb)
Based on all this, OKW starts late 2026. (Soft Refurb)

I’m staying April 22nd to May 2nd. In a studio.

I wonder what happens if they end up having less rooms available than they originally booked?

Would they try to move guest to a hotel room at VGC, or would they try to move them to VDH?

I would be OK with the hotel room at VGC, but I wouldn’t be very happy if I got moved over to the VDH. They are a different class of hotels.

I would be absolutely irate if I got moved over to VDH and they also tried to charge me the transient tax… I expected that they would probably have to waive that if they involuntarily moved anyone over there? Seems like that might open them up to legal issues.

I also wonder how they decide who gets moved… is it based on who booked the latest? I booked right at the 11 month window and there were rooms available for quite a while after I booked.

I ran into a situation like that in 2022.

We had a 2-BR at VGC that was not availabe upon check in. They moved us to two Grand Cal hotel rooms. After much back and forth with the CM lead, they comped us concierge access.

They comped the rooms as well and returned our points for the one night NYE stay.

We got to see what NYE was like in the concierge lounge and watched fireworks from there. They sure made us happy at the end!

Yeah, I would definitely NOT be happy to be moved to VDH. Nor would I be happy to be moved to a room with no kitchen/kitchenette.
Yeah, I wouldn’t be happy about a hotel room if I was in a 1 bed or larger…. For a studio I’m fine with it… in fact, it would probably be nicer to get a remodeled hotel room anyway. They had to give me a hotel room at Jambo house a couple years ago. I was totally OK with it because the hotel rooms were nice and refurbished… they also offered to bring me a microwave which I passed on because I wouldn’t really use that. I mostly book studios and eat out.

The only real problem I have with a regular room over a studio would be the beverage fridge. I like a regular fridge because it keeps this colder.

We are booked for next July for the anniversary. I booked that at 11 months out, so I would be very unhappy if they were to move us. I could live with VDH, but I would put up a huge fight about the Transient tax. I am paying it in my due for VGC and I booked that resort. I would not be willing to pay for it at VDH if I was moved there.

Recent reports have the 5th and 6th floor blocked and some fencing up by the taxi lanes. Seems like things are starting up and the just announced hotel refurb.

Any one there recently who heard anything?
- DVC Referbs have already started on 5th and 6th floors.
- Disney also announced that the hotel rooms are getting a refresh at the same time (I think they are putting in more colorful Capet and beddings).
- Napa Rose will close in the spring, be completely renovated, then reopen in the fall with a new menu.
- The large outdoor patio on the 5th floor is going to be closed in and turned into a second concierge lounge that will also extend to the 6th floor… so regular hotel guest will no longer be able to access that part of the hotel… I assume that the cool staircases going from the 5th to 6th floor will also no longer be available to non concierge guest…. I’m really against this new lounge.

Extremely bad pic but saw some desks and chairs and patio chairs in the fencing area, and this cast member carrying in some of these cushions. And saw some TV boxes in the big dumpster (not in the pic).

I want to know where to find the artwork and lamps that they change…..

How long would you think the refurbs will take? We are going around Easter. I know there is a lower inventory relative to WDW resorts - do you think they'll be done in just under 3 months? Should we be worried about a last-minute cancellation (it happens at WDW quite often in connection with refurbs)? Should we be excited that we'll probably get a newly-refurbed room?

VGC is small but I have my doubts that a full referb is going to be done in 3 months.

They probably wouldn’t outright cancel your reservation… but they might move you. My guess is that they would probably try to move people over to the Disneyland hotel since they still have a lot of inventory over there.. they might also offer a hotel room if your staying in a studio..

I’m kind of waiting for this to happen to somebody. I’m really curious if they’re going to move people over to the Disneyland hotel and then try to charge them the transient tax. I wouldn’t pay that tax if I didn’t book there. I stay in a studio so honestly, I would probably just try to get them to give me a regular hotel room at the grand Californian

I have a reservation there on April 27th… so I guess we will find out. My number one hope is that I get to stay in a renovated DVC room.
