VDH Opening

While I'd love for VDH point chart to be lower than VGC, since point charts tend to go up over time (and it's been a hot minute since VGC opened) we were preparing ourselves for RIV as a comparison. So if it's under Riviera's chart... yay! Especially with being able to compare Tower vs Duo Studio, I'd love to see a chart adding in Riviera to the comparison.

I would say 'that room' (with half-adjoining doors circled in blue) was ambiguous:

I think there's pretty clearly the glyph for an adjoining door in the 1BR, but not matched in the Studio, which made it ambiguous.
the part that’s cut off is the color code key. I have the original somewhere. It’s color coded as a 1BR.

Anyway, by 'confirming' that 1BR/Studio is not a lockoff (or at least one of them is a dedicated 1BR), they only needed to drop 3 Deluxe and 2 Duos to go from 331 to 326.

Anyway, here's the rooms I think didn't make the cut:

Top right 2nd Garden Unit I'm pretty confident about, we've seen nothing about it. Bottom left is pretty pure speculation, but it fits as a 1Duo + 1Deluxe.

I thought the more likely rooms to drop were on Floor 12, the 'roof view' rooms (highlighted in blue):

But that's a 1Duo + 2Studio, and the numbers jut don't add up.

I counted up all the rooms with the above exclusions/inclusions, and this is what I get, assuming any view of a pool is "Preferred View" (except Garden Units, which are Garden):

(I have the 'roof view' rooms as SV, but they might be PV, who knows)
This is the breakdown as listed in the plans they filed with the city of Anaheim in early 2020. You should check out the first page of that thread.

And I think people have to remember that point charts go up over time because the cash price when these new building are being built is higher.

If you had BWV and BCV being created today, they would not have the point charts they have. But, back in the 1990's/early 2000's when they were built, cash price was so much lower.

Points charts also do weird things - Look at the only 2br lock-offs that sleep 10 - VGF and RR - Riveria and VGF are the same on Weekends but RR is much lower during the week?

Cabin vs Bungalow - is another example of the same unit's with wildly different points.

Fine, pull my leg!

Below are VGC, RIV, and my latest guess for VDH points chart (if POS is accurate). I've included actual Full Year points as well as points per night.

Grand Cali:

Riviera (sorry for the forum resizing):Screenshot 2023-04-16 at 10.47.19 AM.png

My latest/final(?) guess for VDH points chart that I made last night, trusting the POS values despite VGC not matching them:
Screenshot 2023-04-16 at 10.48.54 AM.png

Various hand tweaks I did:
  • 10pt/night minimum for SV Duo, for marketing reasons
  • 15pt/night minimum for SV Deluxe, for marketing reasons
  • Stronger 'weekend effect' for Duos than most rooms (I did this speculatively, not based in current data)
  • Did what I could to preserve the 'holiday effect' of VGC, where peak season is 1.36x - 1.46x the year-round average
    • I made all of them 1.4x - 1.46x, probably should have made it more variable as RIV is 1.39x - 1.62x, with the Tower Studios being the larger ratio
  • Flattened the Studio/1BR ratio compared to VGC (VGC has an oddly low ratio in Low Season)
  • Made sure the lockoff discount isn't too variable

Anyway, probably my final Points Chart guess for VDH as I doubt more 'real' info will come out soon before the real points chart. Cash Rates and POS were plenty to go off of. Also, I don't feel that confident about this one, but that's possibly due to POS being so off with RIV/VGC specifically. The 1BR especially feel off here.

Doesn't look like the color code key differentiates when a 1BR/Studio is part of a lockoff or not. Either way, it all added up to 350 in full lockoff splitting, just a question of 331 vs. 332 when not locked off 😊

I own direct points elsewhere, so as a SoCal local, I guess this gives me a slightly better chance of booking VDH than VGC at 7mo (does anyone know what the actual ratio is of direct points outstanding to resale points outstanding? I would expect direct is more than half?)... but my biggest concern here, as someone who is considering buying ~150 points in resale at the moment is this: at least one major motivation for ROFR is so Disney can keep selling direct at high prices-- I know some people (I'm probably guilty of this) would buy direct for the membership card even if resale goes 75-90% off... but most would not and even less likely after they hit the membership threshold. What if, going forward, Disney has decided to let ROFR stop entirely, or perhaps only exercise down to much lower price points, with the plan that "if you want to stay at anything built after 2020, resale points won't work outside home resort"?
I believe that all pre-Jan 2019 resale points are grandfathered in, so it’s really just the last 5ish years of resale buyers who are locked out.

However, that is still a lot of points that won’t be competing. Also, my guess is that a good portion of new members will have their “Welcome Home” stay out of the non-declared inventory, so that should make it a bit easier for current direct members to “try before they buy”.

Okay back from WDW and confused; thought only Blue direct owners get the purple 'welcome home' and merch discounts. I got them both. Not complaining. ;)

Wondering if it'll let me into the lounges?
Sandi is correct. If for some chance your magicmobile says DVC Y then go ahead and try to get into a lounge. Otherwise resale ppl have been reporting getting discounts off mobile apps and/or in person but that’s usually CM dependent. At Epcot Lounge and TOTW the CM is trained to check for the Y.

Well now that we have a guess at points chart and confirmed restriction on resale… curious as to who will be adding on at DLT or waiting out til Poly2. We are currently holding for adding direct points. My husband is pretty convinced you are going to have to own DLT to stay there. I feel like early on 7 month availability will be there as you won’t have resale points in the game. But, similar to RIV, eventually you’ll have resale contracts that can ONLY be used there and it’s going to get competitive. Riveria at 7 months is basically a no for standard studios already I think preferred aren’t far behind.

I bought 200 points direct and I don’t see a “Y” next to my membership info in my MDE app under membership and passes (which is what I always show people)— is there something else I should be doing/looking at?

If you have an iPhone add it to your wallet and you'll be able to find it in there after you click the information icon in the top right corner.

Like others have mentioned, the Y is when you use mobile magic pass. Create one from your MDE and put it in your digital wallet on your phone and if you look look at the info for the pass it should say DVC Y. I don’t think the profile page on mde differentiate between direct versus non-eligible members. If you Google there were step by step instructions on how to add your mobile pass and show your credentials at the park.

It doesn’t show there. It shows on the back of your Magic Mobile pass.

That has to be loaded into your Apple Wallet or Google Pay. Once there, you click on the dots or details, depending on type of phone.

I found it thanks!! Didn’t realize I had to hit the information icon within my magic mobile card in my wallet! Interestingly, it doesn’t show up for my husband, who is also on the DVC deed, but will almost certainly never go to Disney without me.

Amusing anecdote: recently (after returning from a week at WDW) I asked my mom how much I owed her for something and if I could venmo it. She told me $50 and my daughter said “do we get a DVC discount?” 🤣🤣

With the new digital cards, every owner has to have set up their own MDE and DVC account, whether they use them or not.

So, you can get him his code to set up DVC and then do an MDE..if he doesn’t have one..it will then show for him!
