Using your points at non- DVC WDW resorts?

How does this work? How early can you book them and what are the points like? For example, what would a savannah view room at AKL be mid week in early December?

You can use points for all the Deluxe and moderates, but they are pricey for points costs. Because you are basically trading out to those resorts, the "price" is negotiated between DVC and each resort. You can reserve from 11 months to 2 days before travel. Savanna view room early Dec. midweek would be 32 points a night.

DH and I have discussed doing this down the road but I would have to sit down and crunch some figures first. For one, I would like to compare any AP discounts on a cash reservation to using my points.
