Let me see if I understand the use year issue. If I sign contracts now and everything goes through, say February 1st. Would my use year be based on that.....Feb 1st to Jan 31st?
Still scared to call the guide and pull the trigger today. My only issue with 310 points at the BWV is the maint fee. $1453.90 a year, which may go up, is my only sticking point with this whole deal.

Yes, the use year is based off of your close date.

We closed on March 31st 2005 on our first 200 points. Our use year started on April 1st.

Come April 1st, 2006, and every April 1st after that, I will get our yearly alottment of points.

Maintenance fees were a bit of an issue with me as well. We ended up adding 120 points to our original 200 for 320 points, all at SSR.

My dues bill that just came for this upcoming year is $1,199.76

Still...I look at the value we are getting. A $4000 cruise and 5 nights at Boardwalk is definitely worth the $1199 + our Buy in!

I don't think that is necessarily always true. When we bought in November, our use year was August. Disney generally sells you a use year that begins a few months prior to the purchase date unless you already have a contract (add ons get same use year as original contract) or specifically ask for a particular use year.

Brownie - Call your guide and ask what use year you are getting. It's the only way to know for sure.

Best wishes -

Since you are buying points at a sold out resort, your use year will be whatever they have available for purchase so you need to check with your guide. You may even have a choice of use years if they have sufficient points available.

As far as dues go, you should expect dues to go up 4%-5% a year on average. For 2006, BWV dues actually went up more than that but let's hope this is not the start of a new trend!

You would need to call your guide on the use year.I dont think it is always when you close, that it would be your use year month.Especially since you are talking about BWV.

Thanks a bunch.....called this morning to buy in and ask the question. Left a message on her voice mail and have not heard back yet.....called at 9:00am.
Hopefully I'm not getting blown off since I have called her 150 times with questions.....

We bought in October, closed in November and our use year is June. Of course we didn't buy at a sold out resort.

In the event that you get a choice of use years you should ask if they are going to give you current year points as part of your purchase and if you have the option to bank those current year points. For use years in the very near future, you won't have much time to use current year points.

I considered buying BWV directly from Disney in mid summer. At that time they had September use year points available so the current year points that I would get as part of the purchase would expire on Aug 31st. I would not be able to use them before they expired and they would not let me bank them because it was so close to the end of the use year. In the end, I decided to buy resale. The price/point was a bit better even with closing costs and while I didn't get a full set of current year points, there were a lot left and they were already banked.

Use year is decided by inventory. It's equally distributed in hopes of equally distributed availability. On new resorts its by inventory as buildings, or phases, are available. You should definately, ask, or negotiate, getting 05 points. I'm about to purchase an add on and will get 05 now and 06 on 4/1. When purchasing a sold out resort the uy should remain as the original, I would think, but it never hurts to kindly request a uy that works best for you. And good luck with trying to figure a long term theory on uys.

We signed our papers in July and got a use year of February. I am not sure how they determine UY. I guess it goes on inventory. :flower:

If you are buying direct from Disney, I'd consider spliting the contract into 150 and 160 point contracts with the same use year. Contracts that size will be easier to resell later, if you need to.

They could be different use years, but your banking and other deadlines would be easier to track if they were the same.

You and LisaS saved my butt. Thanks for the tip, I was able to split it into 2 separate contracts of 155 each. My guide said that it was a great idea but there not suppose to make that suggestion. Thanks to you, you probably saved me a lot of aggrevation if I have to sell. :worship:

The credit goes to JimMIA. I simply passed his tip along in your other thread because I wanted to be sure you saw it before the end of the day while there was still time to contact your guide.

Congratulations Brownie on your purchase from one of your neighbors at BWV!
