US police officer rebuked for drawing gun in snowball fight

No probably not. I thought it was awesome seeing a bunch of people out there having snow ball fights. It was snow not a rock for goodness sake. The man getting out showing a gun like he was Dirty Harry was uncalled for.

I guess we will just have to agree to disagree:) I don't think it right for grown adults to get and throw snowballs at anyone vehicle. Plain and simple

I believe when you throw something at a police car you are asking for trouble. Is there any other reason to throw something at a police officer and his car? In Missouri where I live you get arrested for that.

It was a snowball fight with people throwing snowballs at each other across a street. The police office NOT in uniform and NOT in a patrol car stopped and started yelling while showing he was a "badass" with a gun and causing an not needed scene and embarssing his police department in the process because some snow hit his hummer.

While I agree that throwing a snowball at any moving car is not a smart idea, the police car was unmarked.

I would have caused a scene as well if my car was hit by adults with a snowball. You wouldn;t

Stopping to take care of a situation and pulling out a firearm ala road rage are two entirely different animals.

Tossing snowballs at a hummer--wrong, I get that.

Pulling out a weapon over a harmless snowball? You seriously woudl do that if you had the opportunity and risk going to jail?

I would have kept driving. It's snow! It falls out of the sky all the time. Am I supposed to pull over and shake my fist at the sky? :lmao: I'm gonna draw my gun and threaten Mother Nature for having the nerve to pelt my moving vehicle with snowflakes! :rotfl: This guys was driving a HUMMER! He could have driven over another car without feeling it! But he was worried about a snowball. :rotfl2: He should lose his job - he's obviously a loose cannon. Don't give me the blabber about how LEOs encounter such and such and are a nervy bunch - it was broad daylight and it was clearly SNOW!

Obviously you've not heard of "errant snowballs".....

Things would've gone better had he not upped the ante by drawing his gun. He changed the crowd's mood. They were just having fun and a wild snowball hit his car....

ME thinks he needs some "Shoot, Don't Shoot" retraining.

Better yet, he should be a meter maid.

You are missing the point. You don't throw snowballs where there is a chance you can hit a car. It doesn't sound like they are to embarssed they put him on desk duty. He had been on staff for 30 years he was probable glad for the break.

Unmarked and he was out of uniform.

What I don't get is why the guy who threw the snowball that hit the vehicle was arrested and noone else was for throwing snowballs.

That's an interesting response for someone who was given a consequence for an inappropriate decision.

I'm sure that all the while he was in police academy, he looked forward to the day that he would get desk duty.

The dept wasn't embarrassed--they were downright miffed at his poor actions.

You seem to be missing the point that drawing a gun was an inappropriate response. There was no justification for him going to that extreme.

For goodness' sake, arm the copper with snowballs.

Problem solved.

I'm not missing any point. It was a freaking snowball. It was snowing a blizzard. His hummer was getting hit by thousands of snowflakes. Im pretty sure a snowball wasn't going to make the car breakdown.

He is/was a veteran detective. Being put on a desk job and having service weapon removed is a smack in the face not a vacation. Acting like an *** and showing his weapon without any need for it be drawn was completely uncalled for. Someone thinking he is special I guess.

There is a big difference bewteen snow falling from the sky and someone throwing it with force behind it.

And a big difference between a snowball tossed at a hummer and a bullet exiting the gun and entering the body of an unarmed civilian.

So he was a detective so that explains why he didn't have a uniform on and probably drove a unmarked car. It sounds like you have a personal issues with this guy?
