Well, we ripped up our carpet and had decided on a floor. Was suppose to come in next week. I come home today and dh has ANOTHER sample down on the floor looking at it. Its twice as expensive. GEESH! We are putting down 1200 sq ft so we cant afford an ultra fancysmakin' floor. :sad2:

Hey Melody, I have a question for you. Did your daughter dance in a lot of competitions when she was younger? Our studio is primarily a perfomance studio. They dont do competitions. I feel there are better places out there with better instruction but they all do competitions. Should I be scared of them. Ok not scared but I have heard they make the girls catty with one another and promote a lot of competition and ill will towards the girls. Of course this is what our dance studio says as to why they dont compete. I am thinking of changing studios but I'm treating it as I do everything like its a life altering decision!!! :lmao:
Yes she did do competition and we loved it. Now let me tell you that the studio we went to was wonderful at the time, and the owner didn't play politics with anybody. She was fair, but strict. Some moms would complain about their daughter not being in the front line, or whatever, and she just didn't put up with it. If they were good enough to do solos, then they were good. But just because your daughter took private solo classes didn't mean she got to do one on stage. And she also taught all the ballet classes, and hand picked the girls out, after watching them for a year. That is what happened to Becky after being with this teacher for just one year. She started at 8 I believe for competition. Geesh, now I need to go back and look things up.

Anyways, we have such wonderful memoires of it, and some of her best friends to this day are from those years. That's a long time! And one of the best memories are from the competitions that we did at the DL hotel. We would go twice a year. What fun!!!

Something else I really appreciated about this dance instructer was her passion for ballet and lyrical. This was Becky's favorite form of dance. The intructor didn't go for little girls doing hoochi coochie at all. She wouldn't even let them do jazz I think until they were 10 or 11. And then she would only do classy stuff.

I do rememeber going to competitions and little girls were dancing in nothing, and moving like no little girl should be doing. What were their mothers thinking??? OK this is my conservative side coming through here.

I better send this off before you think I had left. I type so dang slow!

I bought more t-shirt transfer paper. I also found some shirts at Target. I'm going to make one for my boyfriend of the Pixarized Cars :)

Thanks Melody. The costume issue is a major one for us as well. We saw some girls in string bikinis basically doing hip thrusts of all things and they were 5 last year. I got so scared to switch studios because ours is careful about "dance moves" and cannot show midrift at all.

They do a lot of lyrical and ballet and their teachers are from ballet Arizona which is our best ballet company here. Anyway, I'm glad to hear that because they are so negative about competitions where we are there. They have so many problems that I just cannot overlook it anymore and I dont think the older girls are THAT great so I'm not sure how far they can take them if that makes sense. I would rather go to a studio that has more technical training than we get here. I also dont want to bounce around from studio to studio because she is attached to her friends in company where she is at. I'm just really afraid they are going to go under. :sad1: I would like to get out before we are forced.

I want to finish this year because we have already learned the production numbers but I am thinking of putting her in a ballet class at another studio just to see what it is like and show her that she can make friends elsewhere. I think a bunch of people are jumping ship after this year anyway. 3 of her friends are also looking for studios.

Hi Alex! Ready to go yet?
no.

Lots to do tomorrow. Kids are just like a couple of animals tonight! The big one is in bed now (after dumping a cup of water on his brother because he thought it would be funny), and the little one is finally calming down. Ufff...

Last weekend I got 3 new exercise videos at the Dollar Tree and had a brilliant idea to do Yoga last night. It was fun while I was doing it, but I am so !@$#$% sore right now it's not even funny. What was I thinking?:lmao:

My dad would be so disappointed. I dont want to get back to the 2 hour a day regimine but I would like to get back in shape.

We're leaving the house at 5:30 a.m. Friday morning. Can we say bleary eyed? :faint:

I used to get up at 4:30 when I was working, and get into the office at 6. Now I dont' roll out of bed until 7, so this is gonna hurt! :rotfl:
