Suckers? Seriously?
I have run the numbers six ways to Sunday and staying on site is less expensive than offsite for us. Of course, we are perfectly content to stay in a basic, clean room... and love that our party can come and go at will, without the need to coordinate based on a vehicle. Or worry about being too tired to drive when we leave the parks, after a day of fun on too little sleep. Or moving the car a thousand times as we park hop.
It doesn't mean we're suckers. It means that the perks of staying on site are the best fit for our group.
Thought my post was pretty clear that transportation is the only real value of a Disney resort.
Aside from the trans, if you are into paying for a small room with behind the time accommodations, offering not quite as good amenities as other hotels in the area all the power to you.
The only decent hotel on property is Swan and Dolphin.
