Uggs question.

My dd's Uggs just came today. I ordered them from Nordstrom. She wanted the short-classic Uggs, in the beige. Anyhow, I opened them up to make sure they were the correct size. We were at a store that had them for $119, but the didn't have her size. They said it would be another 2 weeks before their next shipment came in. I would have to drive an hour to pick them up. So I found some at Nordstrom online~~anyway,

I thought they were made in Australia, I'm not cutting China down, but I thought that was the whole thing about Uggs, sheepskin softness. I put my hand in the boot and the inside feels really scratchy. When my dd tried them on at the store in Appleton, they felt really soft and she didn't say anything about them being scratchy. You are suppose to "not" wear socks. It just really surprised me, that they were so scratchy inside. I received a card that they were authentic Uggs, but do you think "Nordstrom" has a cheaper product from China, that is a knockoff of Uggs, yet still says they are Ugg's.

The inside actually feels like really bad wool hair. So, can anyone help me out and tell me what it is suppose to feel like in the boot?

I don't know about the uggs, but at our Nordstoms, if they are out of an item, and need to wait to get it in, or get it from another store, they always ship it to my house for free -weird.

I got free shipping and I didn't have to pay tax. At this store in Appleton WI, they wanted $119. Nordstrom wanted $129. I figured with what I saved for shipping, tax and gas to drive up there, I decided to order from Nordstrom.

I hope someone can tell me if something is wrong with the inside of the Uggs.

I think you may have gotten a bad pair. I know that they are made in China etc.. But mine are not wooly or scratchy at all. I would try to return them or at least go into Nordstrom and compare, just to make sure they're fine. Mine are the softest fur I've ever felt, and not irritating or itchy at all, so I would try and bring those back. Paying over $100 for something you're not happy with is a sure reason to complain. I ordered mine from Nordstrom online, as you did. I did it back in december.

I already wrapped DD"s Uggs but if I remember correctly, they were very soft on the inside.

I just checked a pair from last year, they are very soft but that could be from them being broken in. The tag does say "made in China".

I am certain that Nordstroms' would not sell knock-offs but maybe you got a defect. If they really feel scratchy, I would try and exchange them.

My Uggs are very soft. So soft that I do wear them without socks on occasion.

We went to Australia in June and it was interesting...they sold the "made in China" Uggs and the "made in Australia" Uggs there... the Australia Uggs were $10-20 more a pair...of course we had to buy the Australian made Uggs... we were there! (I don't think the China ones are knock offs though..they seems to be just a slightly cheaper version, pretty much the same though) We bought the tall classic in chestnut and they are very soft inside. I would return the ones you got if you aren't happy with them!

Thanks everyone. When my dd tried them on last week, I remember her telling me, they are really soft, plus I remember sticking my hand in the boot. I'm usually not one to complain, but when something itches the minute you put your hand in, you know something isn't right. Plus my dd has really bad enzema, and I know this would eat her feat. I think I am going to send them back. I loose out $6.00, but it is an agreement for my free shipping and their free shipping.

If you decide to re-order, look at zappos.com. Theirs are $134 and they have free shipping, and they even pay for return shipping if you have a problem with them.

From what I know Uggs used to be made in Australia. But when they got popular, they moved production to China. It seems like this happens whenever a product gets popular. The same thing happened with Chacos and Crocs...both were originally made in the US, and now they're produced in China. Even Calphalon cookware is made in China now...and you can really tell the difference from the older pieces made in Ohio.

Uggs have been made in China for awhile now. My pairs before the switch was made are still soft and fluffy, but the ones that were made in China only last about a year and wear down quickly. And yet they're more expensive. :confused3 Also, wearing socks helps them not get a funky smell AND stay fluffy longer, so I would see what her preference is about that if you decide to re-order. I would buy them in person next time if possible because some pairs are better than others - although I always buy mine from Nordstrom.com

Uggs used to be australian, not anymore. Mine are about 2 1/2 years old and they're made in china. mine are not scratchy, though. They're super-soft.

Look at the inside label of your dd's uggs. Where were they manufactured?

oops...i just looked..made in china.
But they are still nice and she often, i could say just about always, wears them without socks. They don't smell or anything.

here is a copy of an email I recieved from UGGS today ...as an FYI

Dear Denise ,

Thank you for your below inquiry on the country of manufacture of UGG brand boots. As you note, most UGG Classics are now made in Asia. Our Australian sources simply could not handle the volume of boots we now manufacture. The vast majority of sheepskin used to manufacture Classics in Asia, however, continues to come from Australia. Also, our quality standards have not changed - the boots we make in Asia are as high (if not higher) in quality than anything we have ever made. We also continue to make some UGG brand footwear in Australia and New Zealand. The UGG Ultra short, Ultra tall, Sundance ll and Nightfall, for example, are all made in New Zealand. Some scuffs and slippers are made in Australia. Please visit http://www.deckers.com/about/CorporateSocialResponsibility.aspx to view our Deckers Ethical Supply Chain Guidelines.

If we can be of any further assistance please do not hesitate to contact us at 866-896-3708, Monday through Friday 5 am until 8 pm and Saturday and Sunday 8 am until 5 pm Arizona time.

Sincerely,
Candace Ryan-Schmid

I must be the only one who thinks that Uggs wool is not particularly soft. I have two pairs of slippers, and one pair of classic boots. I do not think the wool in any of them are all that soft. I am not a fan of wearing mine without socks. Perhaps am just not tolerant of wool, but I have never thought they were all that soft.

Good timing on reading this thread - my DD has been begging for Uggs and I was just reading up on them on ebay. Here's a link to a great article on how to spot 'fake' Uggs - not that I'm saying yours are fake. Just an interesting read, it's amazing how creative and close some of the knock offs are. :confused3 Who knew - I probably would have gotten taken...

Excellent info! Clearly a warning that most of the eBay auctions are for fakes.

I bought a pair of Bearpaws a few days ago. They're "Ugg-like", and have a completely different tag, etc. They don't claim to be the "real deal". However, after wearing them around for awhile, I found the heel counter to be really stiff and it was rubbing a sore spot on my heel. I ordered a "real" pair of Uggs from Zappos, and they'll be here tomorrow. I'm anxious to see the difference between real Uggs, and my Bearpaw look-alikes.

My best friend is the manager of customer service at our local store. If you have an issue with the boots, please take them back! Nordies prides itself on their CS and will help you find the softest pair!
