Trip Number 9 ~ It's the Most Wonderful Time of Year ~ Christmastime at the GF & Poly

I can not for the life of me figure out why a steakhouse has so much trouble preparing a steak correctly. Makes me mad, especially for what they charge there!! I can go anywhere around here and ask for a well done steak and it is just that -- well done. Not bloody and not burnt!

Not to be rude or anything but sometimes depending on the chef when some one orders a steak well done they will take one that has been sitting around for a bit and burn it to a crisp. On the menus at the keg (a steak house chain here in Canada) they list the doneness of stakes and what to expect from each, beside well done they used to list Not Responasble .

Well, I'm glad I got my laptop back in time to post about your lunch at LC! I had been waiting to hear how you liked it - and very sorry to hear that the whole experience was not what you had hoped for. :sad1: I would not have been happy waiting over 30 minutes for an ADR either. All that noise and stress was a sure headache. I didn't notice your eyes before Jodi mentioned it, but looking back now I can see that you didn't look yourself. (the "yourself" that I have never actually met but feel I know )

How was DS11's rash by this time? I can't see anything in the pic, but that doesn't mean it wasn't still bad.

The tables do look awfully close together! :crowded:

At least you weren't greeted by hanging carcasses when you walked in!

I always order my steak well done, too. There is nothing worse in my opinion than seeing red when I cut into my steak. I would rather it be charcoal than even pink. You would think a steak restaurant could cook a steak to order. Especially a nice restaurant with those prices - we're not talking a Western' Sizzlin here!

Great pics outside LC! I love all the gardens around Canada. :flower2:

As someone who always orders "well done", this makes me a little nervous. :worried: What do you mean by a steak that has been sitting around for a bit? :scared1:

I've seen menus that say "not responsible" by well done. That hasn't scared me off, but the "sitting around" thing may!

Jodi...that is funny you mentioned her eyes in the picture, I was going to comment on it also!! LOL!! Not that you look bad Shelly~but as a fellow headache girl, I know the look:faint: And the crazy thing is that the time before last we went there I got a bad bad headache while waiting...I was laying against the railing by the door with my eyes closed,...they had messed up our ressies and we had to wait like 45 min more or something crazy....I even had our ressie conf # with me and they said they were sorry, but there was just no where to put us until a party of 5 left. Not good....this last trip was better..my kids both loved what they had, and we did too,...I always get the Filet and it has never been a disappointment...not sure if we will go next trip or not~if we have 2 TS credits to burn I will, but if not we won't do it.

Yep, I know that look too!! :faint: Stupid migraines! :headache:

I kind of remember you telling that story before about laying down there because of a headache. :sad2:

Glad you had a better experience last time! :)

Well, the plus side to them having you wait almost an HOUR, :furious: is that you got really beautiful pictures outside! :thumbsup2 But still, I would have been fuming. I don't eat breakfast very often, and when I do it's relatively small. So, when I am hungry for lunch I am READY NOW.

We haven't been back to LC since they switched from 1 to 2 TS credits. We haven't had the dining plan for several years, so I don't know what it was that really kept us away ... I think it just put a bad taste in my mouth about them? IDK.

I'm sorry that it was just OK, and that really stinks about your Smores! I know you love them so much!! I always wanted to try them, so it looks like I missed the boat :(

Do you think you'll go back?

I don't eat breakfast either but I did have a granola bar that day, knowing that we were having a late lunch. Guess it wasn't enough.

Yeah, it's just too much money. Especially to be disappointed. I don't know if we will go back. Probably not for awhile. Too many other places to eat in Epcot/BW area.

Hi Shelly, what a pain having to wait for your table, especially when you're head is hurting.

I just love the pretzel bread there, especially dipped in the cheese soup :)

Sorry your steak was a little cremated, the fries looked awesome though!

Kind of wish they went back to their old menu, I don't know anyone who prefers it now.

I was so glad to have that bread come out right away! My fries were good. My steak, not so much. :confused3 So strange that a steakhouse can't prepare a well done steak correctly.

Yeah, I definitely preferred the old menu.

That's my feeling about it. We really loved it the one time we did it (on the dining plan when it was only 1 credit) but I just can't justify spending that much money for what you get anymore.
Luckily, I can get around planning on it again by telling DH that we should really try everywhere else in Epcot first.
I honestly don't understand why it's still as popular as it is?

I think it used to be much better. Not sure what has happened. Or why it is so popular. :confused3

Yep - lots of other place to try in Epcot! :thumbsup2

Why would they have steaks 'sitting around'??? :faint: That just sounds gross! :crazy2:

YAY you got your laptop back!!! :cool1:

Myself that you've never actually met?! :rotfl2::rotfl: So funny!

Well, if you would just let me book you a nice WDW vacation then we could finally meet in person!!! ::yes:: :thumbsup2

DS's rash was finally starting to get a little better at this point. Still bad, but better than the previous few days.

Nope, no hanging carcasses like at the Yachtsman! :rotfl:

That's exactly how I feel about my steak. Well done, should mean just that - well done. No pink. It's really not that difficult. I make my own on the grill and they are not bleeding and not burnt when they are done!! I think at LC they are just over loaded with orders and things get overlooked. :confused3 Because like I said - I can order a well done steak a some places we go here and they almost always cook it exactly right!

Some places will have many steaks on the grill and just move then around. Well Done ones are the ones that they will just shove towards the back as typically chef's don't care what it's like. The ideal serving temperature for a steak is medium as it's still juicy and has most of it's flavour at that point.

Okay I have read somewhere before that chefs give the worst cuts of steak to people who order them well done. And I can honestly say that I've experienced it. Totally not fair at all.:furious:

So what's on the agenda today??? Anything fun? I'm sitting here trying to keep myself from going to buy almond butter to make copycat reese cups. Guess what I've discovered makes me hurt all over? Peanut Butter!!!!!! And my gluten free bread that I've been eating so much of has potatoes in it. So that's out too. :rolleyes2
I swear I'm gonna have to live in a bubble before it's all over with.:worried:

Hey Jo! :yay:

Nope we have never stayed at the Poly! Sadly. Someday we will though! And, I told Shelly I would ABSOLUTELY use her as my TA if we booked there!! ::yes:: She has an amazing amount of knowledge and I know she really cares about making people's trips magical.

And about renting my points... well, I was stupid. :lmao: But I meant well!!

:offtopic: Sorry Shelly!

When we first got our points, I was SO happy and just wanted to share them with my family. :lovestruc So I booked a big trip for my mom, dad, brother and sister to come with Bob and myself. And then my aunt wanted to book a trip, and pay me to rent my points. So - I booked both of these and had to "borrow" from the next year to do it. (we only have 120 points a year) Well, she backed out and then my family trip fell apart because my dad lost a few of his clients and couldn't afford to go - so the points I borrowed from next year still needed to be used THIS year. :worried: So, I used what we needed to go with Bob and my sister in January and then rented the rest (some to a friend and then the rest through David's) since I knew we wouldn't be going before the end of the year again.

We used that money to book Alaska and we won't get more points to use until this December. My girlfriend is getting married in April and we need to travel for that, and we figured that this was a good opportunity to FINALLY see WDW decked out for Christmas! So, Dec 2014 it is :faint:

Oh my!!! That is quite the story Heather!:scared1:
So once you book a trip you're out the points if you can't make it? That is scary!
That's just awful that you had to sell them off. Does that mean that you won't get to have more points in your bank until next December and you have a year to use them? Is that how it is? I get so confused when it comes to DVC!

Happy 5 Months Jodi!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :banana::banana::banana::banana::banana:

Well that is just awful!! If they do it right it can be well done and still juicy and good!!

So what's on the agenda today??? Anything fun? I'm sitting here trying to keep myself from going to buy almond butter to make copycat reese cups. Guess what I've discovered makes me hurt all over? Nothing much going on here today. Went to Dairy Queen for lunch and now the kids are playing outside! :cool1: Sunny and 50 degrees! It's been so cold that 50 feels pretty good. The rain is supposed to start tomorrow though, of course. I need to get clothes ready for tomorrow. That's about it.

No PB and no potatoes?!!! :scared1::scared1:

It is very confusing!! :faint:

Happy 5 months Jodi!! Woohoo!! :)

That really is a shame about the steaks, I was a chef for a long time and can say that not all restaurants treat well done steaks that way! We always served the same cuts no matter what, and did our best with them. I will say that well done definitely is not the best way to serve a steak in most chefs opinions, so I can see some angry bitter people not caring. And that's sad :(

DVC is definitely confusing at first!! But no, you don't lose your points when you cancel. You can book and cancel a million times. It as soon as you borrow from the next year that you need to use them that year no matter what. I was silly about it and was just over zealous :)

I suppose it may have some to do with it being the most "normal" place at Epcot, other than maybe the Garden Grill?
As a picky eater myself, I can see how some people may be turned off by some of the menus around the World Showcase. I know when I was planning my honeymoon all those years ago, I kind of felt that way. We did Coral Reef and Le Cellier on our days at Epcot, and I think I ordered a steak at both places. Now I'm anxious to try some other places, but it's still hard to commit to some of the stranger menus.

Okay I have read somewhere before that chefs give the worst cuts of steak to people who order them well done. And I can honestly say that I've experienced it. Totally not fair at all.:furious:

That's ridiculous. People can be so stupid sometimes. It seems that if they did a good job with EVERY steak, then it would be more likely that someone will start to change their preferences over time. Isn't that a chef's job? To foster a love of cuisine?
I know I started with well-done steak (I wouldn't eat steak at all for a long time) but now I can handle some pink. I doubt I'll ever prefer anything less cooked than medium, but it definitely affects the flavor and texture.

I would have been pissed waiting that long for an ADR. We haven't been there since 2009. I don't think I'd pay 2 credits if onDDP.
Sorry it was such a bad experience:(

Well that is about the dumbest thing I have ever heard!! :faint: Good grief. Why would it matter to the chef how people want their food prepared??? :crazy2: It's not like they have to eat it!

Yes, I suppose you are right there. I never thought of it that way. There really aren't too many "normal" places in Epcot for the picky/non-adventurous eater. I know I would like to try some of the other places, but I'm afraid!! :scared1: :rotfl:

Sorry it was such a bad experience:(

It was a little annoying! Definitely the longest we have ever waited past an ADR time anywhere at WDW.

I wouldn't really say it was a bad experience. Just not great. Or maybe I should say - just not worth it.

Thanks Shelly and Heather for my Happy 5 Months dance!

I can't believe it!!!:cool1::cool1::cool1::cool1::cool1:

Sounds awesome! :) DS11 and I colored our eggs a few days ago. DS13 is apparently too cool to do something like that. :cool2:

Tell him that his "older girlfriend MC"--- you know the one he wants to take to Steak and Shake so he can order off the adult menu--- is dyeing eggs. She's not too cool.

Well it was fun while it lasted anyway. They finished up and now I'm left to clean up. At least there's wine involved.:lmao:

Did y'all hear about the little boy that drowned on the Fantasy this afternoon in port?:( They're talking about it on the Cruise line board. Don't know his condition but it's not sounding good.
