Traveling Disers are lost and adrift somewhere?

My computer crapped out on me twice while trying to post the booty we picked up while shopping. I will attempt to do it again in the morning.

I suggest we eat at Fouquet's while here.

So CG after breakfast this morning where are we headed?

I think Ed should treat us all to something special from Cartier. ::yes::

Sorry guys, I am in intense meetings with the top brass this morning.

Ed, I thought you'd wisk us off to the Olympics this morning to be there for opening ceremonies.

I say, since we're still in Paris, that we devote today to a side trip to one of these locations - YOU PICK (I also say we need to do some more eating and drinking in this country):

1) The Loire Valley
2) Dijon and Beaune to tour some cellars and to buy some mustard
3) The Champagne Region
4) Versaille
5) Normandy
6) Disneyland Paris

Oh, and I will still be back with a few pics of what we picked up yesterday.

OK, here's some of what we got on our shopping extravaganza:

From Guerlain:

The Printemps' institute for men ! Conceived as an authentic submarine with decompression chamber and sliding doors, Nickel Institute offers a dive into the cosy world of care : indulge in facials, manicures and massages in a calm and relaxing atmosphere.

Well..for me, it would be a toss up between Versaille and DL Paris.
Versaille is so beautiful. We could take a horse and buggy tour of the gardens and have a few beers sitting by the lake.
But...DL Paris is so much fun too! I think Pirates of the Caribbean is the best at DL Paris.
In the Main Street Parade, Mickey and Minnie were actually kissing! We thought that was funny. We've NEVER seen them kiss before! Does anyone else think that M and M kissing is weird?
I guess it's true about Paris.
The city for lovers.

Well travlnman1, you're the only one who responded so its your pick -

We're off to Versaille and then, since we hunker down for weekends, off to stay at Disneyland Paris!!!!!!

Got that Ed. Since I am not Captain, I have to make sure our
travel digs keep up with us.

Alllllll ABOARD!!!!!! Our TGV Bound for Versaille (I don't think they do TGVs out to Versaille, but I wanted to get one in here).

Whew - I am exhausted from all of that shopping. Thank heavens they had those adorable pink Dolce & Gabbana shoes in my size.

I'm ready for the beauty of Versailles and then off to Disneyland Paris! What a fabulous itinerary!

Bonjour, my fine travelling friends. I come bearing gifts because of my absense. Berets for everyone! And some fine French wine!

I hope Goofy4Tink made it to Disney all right today. I wonder what airline she took, and if the flights made it out. What a way to start a vacation!

Karen

OK, I have been through the web site for Versaille, and I would be here all afternoon describing this to you. Since I have buttloads of work still to do prior to leaving for the weekend, I am going to recommend going to the official web site, which is spectacular - and might I add that every web site I have been to thus far in our journey through France has been spectacular. These sites put sites in the US to shame for similar monuments. Ok here is the web site: http://www.chateauversailles.fr/
I will give a brief overview and some pics, but you really have to o to the web site, it has 306 degree tours of most of the rooms. Its really cool. I have never thought about Versaill, nor visited. I had no idea how much time a visit there would take - holy gigantic!

OK, I have been searching for over an hour now for a suitable photo, and I find nothing - the place is too freakin huge! Anyone have one, please post it. I will keep looking but I wanted to get this posted.

The Old Chateau
Back in 1623, Louis XIII - father of Louis XIV - built a 'hunting lodge, a little gentleman's chateau' of brick, stone, and slate at Versailles. The king liked it so much that he soon had it enlarged by his 'royal engineer and architect', Philibert Le Roy (this early chateau survives in the buildings that flank the Marble Courtyard). Then from 1661 to 1668 the young Louis XIV, known as the Sun King, had his own architect, Louis Le Vau, embellish the residence. Yet this little house of cards', as the memorialist Duc de Saint-Simon called it, remained too small. Extensions were deemed necessary.

The New Chateau
Le Vau was once again charged with carrying out the work. From 1668 to 1670 he built the 'envelope', which Saint-Simon severely criticized for contrasting with the old chateau: 'the beautiful and the ugly, the vast and the restricted, were stitched together'. Indeed, Le Vau's 'envelope' entailed wrapping the old chateau in a second building whose uniformly white stone facades served as a fine garden setting. Work on this building, whose central terrace was inspired by Italian baroque villas, was taken up by François d'Orbay on Le Vau's death in 1670. It houses the State Apartments.

Official Residence
In May 6, 1682, Versailles became the official residence of the Court of France, supplanting the palaces at the Louvre and Saint-Germain-en-Laye. From 1678 to 1684, meanwhile, the terrace of the new chateau was transformed into the Hall of Mirrors, symbolizing the power of the absolute monarch. Feverish building activity then gave birth to the North and South Wings, the Orangery, Stables, and Grand Lodgings; the vast construction site was headed by royal architect Jules Hardouin-Mansart. The last major feature built during the reign of Louis XIV, the Chapel Royal, was completed in 1710 by Robert de Cotte.

The Grand Reconstruction Project
Toward the end of the reign of Louis XV, around 1770, Jacques-Ange Gabriel built the Opera and began reworking all the facades on the chateau's town side. Only the right wing, which threatened to crumble, was executed. It strictly obeyed the rules of French classical architecture, as seen in its colonnaded pavilion. Inside, the grand staircase known as Grand Degré was begun in 1772, but only recently completed in 1985. A symmetrical pavilion on the other side of the courtyard, planned by Napoleon Ier, was finally erected in 1820.

Karen, I am thoroughly freaked out for Diane, actually. Can you imagine? I watched the news last night and they are evacuating everyone to Orlando and are going to house them in ballrooms.

I really hope everyone stays safe and hunkers down with lots of Disney videos today.

OK, here's an OK photo:

Is anyone else but me wondering about the fact that every photo I am finding is in miserable weather - what is that about?

So tonight, we're off to Disneyland Paris. I am going to hand over the reigns to someone else as I have never been and its not my forte. travlnman1, everyone may post photos or itineraries, Ed and I just do it now because we are willing to risk our computers doing the searches, no other reason. So feel free to lead us around DP, with one caveat, most of us won't be online over the weekend - we usually find a great resort to hunker down into, like the Disneyland Hotel (my vote), and wait until Monday to resume touring. I am off this weekend to head directly into the remnants of the Hurricane and hopefully sit outside on the lawn at Tanglewood Saturday night prior to Charley's arrival and listen to John Williams perform his movie night with the Pops. Hopefully Sunday it won't be too bad to drive home. Its totally stange to think of the effects of a hurricane so far south reaching us, but they say its going to be bad here too - not bad like Tampa bad, but bad rains.

mickey.jpg

I left a voicemail on Diane's DH's cell phone (remember I had it from the meet). I told them that I hope they made if there safely, and hope that the hurricane doesn't put too big of a damper on their trip. I told that that her travelling DISer friends were thinking about them.

I also left my cell phone number so that they could call and let me know how the fared.

Karen

There predicting a wet weekend for us too. I had been thinking about goofy4tink traveling to WDW this morning and then I came home to hear about Charley being upgraded to a 4 and WDW closing the parks at 1 pm. I hope everyone down there makes it through this okay.

Have a great weekend everyone. I'm going to rest up so I have my strength to take on Disneyland Paris.

OK..I'm busted.
I'm actually computer illiterate. I just know where the keys are to type and then I hit send. I have no clue how to add pictures! I'm thinking Castlegazer is a genius for knowing how to do all this stuff.
I think it would be cool to have pictures of the 3 different castles from DW, DL and DLP. (DLP Castle is Sleeping Beauty's Castle, not Cinderella's)
I'll try and come up with a trip report for DLP but at this moment, I'm trying to find more info in the damage that Charlie left in Florida. It's devestating.
My thoughts and prayers to the families who've had to deal with the rath of Charlie.

When you asked me to move the boat is this what you had in mind?

The view from where I spent my weekend :

Need another clue :here is the view from the ship

St_Tropez%20Hafen%202.jpg

OK we are in St. Tropez :

The fame of the Bay of Saint-Tropez was already established a long time ago. A legend tells the name of Saint-Tropez would come from Torpes, an intendant Nero's martyr who refused to abjure his faith. He was beheaded and his body was thrown in a boat which drifted in the Bay towards the shore.

In the 9th century, after their defeat in Poitiers, Saracens set up a last bastion there. In the 15th and 17th, Saint-Tropez became a small autonomous quite thriving republic. At that time, the Citadel, the Suffren Castle and the Mercy Chapel were built.
In the 19th century, Saint-Tropez was an active and picturesque harbour which traded in "rosé wine", cork oat and chestnuts. A Napoleon 3's minister, won by the beauty of the place bought a castle (the present Chateau de la Moutte). Some artists discovered it... and got enthousiastic: Maupassant, Signac who fell in love with this exceptional light, and then, Matisse, Marquet, Bonnard...
rue.jpg

In the twenties, the famous Saint-Trop attracts the international stars in fashion. After the war, it becomes the french existensialists' summer quarter. But, for sure, the fifties' wave and its figurehead Brigitte Bardot definitively launch it.
