(Im sorry if i posted this in the wrong forum...)
I have a question for all of you DVC experts... I currently have RCI as a timeshare.. we love it.. but would LOVE to be able to use one of our weeks at a Disney resort if possible.
1. Does anyone have any experience with doing this?
2. How hard is it to be able to trade with DVC? And what is the best way to go about doing it?
3. If we use "weeks" with out timeshare, how does that work out with places that use "points" per night??

thank you to anyone who can help me!!:goodvibes I'm pretty clueless right now! lol, :rotfl:

Your ability to trade into a DVC resort will depend on availability for the dates you are looking for and, more importantly, the trading the strength of the resort you own.

If you are already a member of RCI, I'd log into your account and do a search from your account to see if any DVC accommodations will turn up (you can also do that by calling RCI). Be prepared to possibly need to trade your 2BR for a 1BR or Studio and also be aware that there will be a $95 fee from Disney in addition to the exchange fee for RCI.

You will be trading for a week stay - so there is no problem converting your week into a point-based system like DVC.

Many have had success trading into DVC resorts using RCI.

Good luck! :)

I am an owner in WorldMark and through them am also a member in RCI. I traded into a 1Br last year and it was very easy. I would call to see what's available. They may say nothing is available but call beack every week. Disney releases rooms at different times. I got my room 6 month in advance and i was shocked they had something open. It's good to start calling at least 11 months in advance.

This is absolutely true. We decided just about a week and a half ago to do a WDW vacation this year (June). I'm an HGVC owner but can trade with RCI exchanges.

I was so excited to see that we can now trade into DVC that I immediately skipped over to the RCI site to check out availability. Unfortunately, there's not much of anything available in the next couple of months so were stuck at HGVC. I'd say the sooner you start looking and the more flexible you are, the easier it'll be for you. Dang, I might just have to buy DVC...

Good luck!

I was able to trade my RCI (Hawaii) into Disney no problem. Obviously, Hawaii has huge trading power. I own a studio and traded into a 2BR BWV. As the moderator stated, there is a $95 mandatory fee. RCI has an exclusion area that if your timeshare is within a 30 mile radius, it won't trade for Disney at all. We had a ton of choices. Oh, and I am a weeks owner. I like that better, I don't have to figure out how many points I need to trade. A week is a week.:goodvibes IF you banked your week with RCI already, just to go the exchange tab and search. It will tell you what is available. I booked my May 2010 in June 2009. Feel free to PM me with any questions.

Thank you all for the responses! That was helpful.. i am going to log on to see whats available and keep checking to see what i can get! I'm glad some of you have had luck with this... hope i will too!:goodvibes

I'm guessing that if you're far enough out, trading in isn't that hard. We only made the decision to go (read: I twisted DH's arm hard enough that he said that we could go) about a week and a half ago. If we'd decided on this last year, we probably could've gotten into DVC. I think it's all about getting in early. Good luck though, let us know it comes out.

I'd keep checking the HGVC/RCI exchange site. My girlfriend just booked BWV for 4th of July week when it looked like there was nothing available. I think she called HGVC too. Best of luck to you!

It has been reported on TUG that DVC did a block deposit this week, so there are lots of units available right now, although they may not be at either the time or the resort your want.

However, there are some resorts affiliated with RCI in weeks that will not see any DVC inventory. They just do not have enough trade power to pull DVC. I know because my parents own one! -- Suzanne

You can't trade an Orlando unit and it appears likely you can't trade from an account that has an Orlando unit in it even if not using that week to trade. For the weeks side put in an ongoing request at least 11 months out. For RCI points keep looking several times every day starting at 10 months out to the day.

Actually Dean you are mistaken on this. I own 3 weeks in Orlando and another week at a non Florida resort. I have no problems using this other week to trade into DVC. I have an upcoming Easter exchange into Kidani Village. My non Orlando week at this time can see 93 Disney Orlando resorts. Even Christmas/New Years weeks.

The reason I said likely is because it was too complicated for those not interested. The rule appears to be exactly as I have stated for RCI points and likely for RCI weeks as well. However, some have been able to trade in and others have not. The difference appears to be how the RCI weeks account is coded. I know of several weeks that have been confirmed to DVC and later canceled at DVC's directly, 3 through RCI points and one through RCI weeks. Ultimately it's at your own risk but simply seeing DVC on a search is not enough reassurance that you'll be able to successfully complete an exchange stay.

I believe you are right on the RCI week account coding, as I was told the exact same thing by a VG at RCI when I did my exchange in DVC.

I think the issue is there are 2 components. The technical rule is that any direct Orlando connection in the RCI membership seems to be a disqualifying event. However, the system isn't set up to block or even pick up many of those transactions and the retroactive enforcement seems to be spotty at best. And it's possible that the answers can or even have changed along the way. As I noted, I know of 3 RCI points exchanges (2 owners) that have made an exchange and later been called with a cancelation due to this exact issue. We also discussed this recently on TUG with varying experiences and I later was informed of a weeks member who made an exchange and was later called to cancel under this rule as well. Supposedly RCI points should be exempt from these type of rules but not in this case it appears. What appears to be a factor is what was the first or main registration under the RCI weeks account, if it was an Orlando week, the system appears to pick that up but if there are other Orlando weeks added to a non Orlando RCI membership afterwards but not being use to exchange, there appears to be little way for anyone to know or care. Thus my interpretation at this point is that there is some risk even if you can complete the exchange online but the risk is relatively small. Unlike a couple of other companies I can think of, I cannot see DVC turning anyone away at the last minute or on arrival due to this rule.

Remember the rule also applies to HH and VB as well for resorts in those areas.

Well now you have me a little nervous with my upcoming exchange. It is probably going to be the one and only time I exchange into a DVC resort.

I wouldn't worry too much, I think the risk is very low overall. However, if I wanted to trade into DVC regularly (as I do), I would remove all Orlando registrations from my RCI account. The one RCI points member who had 2 units canceled (at one time I believe), sold his Orlando points resort to eliminate the issue. I've likely had more than 30 exchanges confirmed to DVC including my 8 units this fall (Sept) for BWV and BCV for a family trip.

Wow 30 exchanges thats incredible, I don't have that much vacation time from work LOL!
We're talking over a number of years (II and now RCI), sometimes multiple units at a time and 8 units this coming Sept that pads the numbers. I'm trying to travel about 4 weeks a year at this time.

I'm still trying to trade RCI for my inlaws into DVC for the first week of December and I've been checking several times each day for the last month. Nothing at all available for any location of DVC, any size unit. There are trades available for later in December, just not the first week. I keep looking but I'm starting to lose hope.

I suspect there have been units that came and went early Jan. I do not currently have a unit on deposit with RCI weeks so I cannot confirm specifics on that option from an RCI weeks direction. I have not been as active in looking in RCI points the last 2-3 months as I normally am. However, I think it's likely you'll see something else come through for this time at SSR/OKW though maybe not for a 2 BR unit. Once the 7 month window is passed for DVC, you may want to consider non DVC options more seriously.
