Today at CiCi's Pizza I saw a women eat ...

I hope you don't eat at many buffets because I'm sure they hate to see you coming! Seriously? A customer pays $5 for "all you can EAT" and to you that means "all you can move to your table - it doesn't matter if you eat it?"

Atually, when the local CiCi's sees my mother and I walk in the door, one of the workers starts making the sausage and pepperoni special order for us,and the manager makes an extra cheese garlic bread and puts it in the oven! They looooooove to see us coming!!(And I'm sure Jennasis's local CiCi's loves to see her come in too!!)

I don't believe there is the same kind of cross-contamination worry with wheat as there is with say peanuts. So no problem there. We had a Celiac kid with us in China on our trip a few years ago with Special Olympics. She ate the cheese off the pizza and left the crust.

.

it depends on the person, but in general this would be a severe cross contamination and the people I know with Celiac would never do it. It is not immediately life threatening like a peanut allergy can be, but is still very harmful. A person's intolerance to gluten becomes more severe with every contact. At first, incidental contact may not cause obvious problems, but with each ingestion, the person gets more and more sensitive. FIL has Celiac, and tries to be very very careful, but every now and then something unknown slips by and he reacts.

the only pizza he will touch has a gluten free crust. he would never eat the toppings off a regular wheat crust pizza.

the child on your trip may have been choosing the lesser of two evils because of limited food choices. It certainly wasn't ideal. Chinese food is full of gluten, most soy sauces are made with a combo of wheat and soy. you would think that it's safe with all the rice, but that's not the case.

My mom has a wheat allergy and only eats the toppings.

That was my first thought too. My mom is a celiac so it wouldn't have done any good for her anyway.

If you have Celiac or a wheat allergy, wouldn't going to a pizza place defeat the purpose due to cross contamination? I thought that you couldn't eat food that was made on the same equipment as something that had touched wheat/gluten, much less pull the toppings off of a pizza crust.

There are some regular pizza places that make gluten free pizza. They make it in the morning before any flour hits the equipment. It's good pizza...only bad part is that it is about 30 minutes away from where I live.

A celiac wouldnt be able to pull the toppings off the pizza but could eat a pizza made in a clean kitchen.

Seriously, who cares what someone else eats and why the hell would you keep tabs on it. weird. I put this up there with John and Kate.

I say pay your money and eat what you want to eat. This is a very successful business. If this was a common occurance or something that cause the business to suffer, they'd surely put a stop to it. I've been on seriously low carb diets before and could probably have eaten the cheese and toppings off of a dozen pieces.

:confused3

I realize I am posting, but really....who cares? :confused3

There are 5 pages of people discussing a woman's pizza eating habit :rotfl2:

She isn't hurting anybody and she paid just like everybody else :thumbsup2

What's the big deal?

I would of been more annoyed if I am eating pizza in my weird way and someone is scrutinizing me.

There are a great many reasons I do not eat at buffets (Cici's is one of the rare exceptions. I adore their cinnamon rolls.). The main one being I simply cannot pack away that much food, so it's never worth it for my family. However I don't give a rat's patoot how much anyone else eats. THEY PAID FOR IT. My aunt and uncle can close a buffet down (like HOmer Simpson at the all you can eat fish place..."tis not a man....tis a remorseless eatin' machine!")

I can't understand why anyone would care or would take one second out of their life to figure out why a total stranger was eating a certain way.

Thanks to this thread I went to Cici's TWICE yesterday! Their veggie pizza is delish and I love those cinnamon buns!

I did that once when I was 10 or 11, ate the tops off of every piece of pizza and left the rest. One night it made me sick and I threw up in my bed. The sight of all of those undigested cheeseballs was so bad it was over 20 years before I ever ate another slice of pizza again.

The thought of the sight of those cheeseballs might cause me to not eat pizza again. Or enchiladas. Or much of anything else with cheese that gets melted. (not your fault...I have issues with melted-now-getting-cold-and-congealing cheese...it was awful while pregnant, I cried over my food many times)

Several people have brought up Celiac/Wheat allergies as a possibility for her behavior. I thought if you had these conditions you could only eat food that was made on dedicated equipment (equipment that does not process items containing the allergen) and that just picking the toppings off of pizza would not do you any good due to cross contamination? Is this not true?

I think it's probably true for many but there might be those who aren't quite that sensitive? We sure know in our household that there are foods that help us but don't help others...

There's somoene on another forum here that will react if something with wheat touches the safe item she's about to eat...some people are that sensitive.

And I "second" the comment a PP made about Chinese food, especially soy sauce.

I can't understand why anyone would care or would take one second out of their life to figure out why a total stranger was eating a certain way.

Yeah, I agree, and I sure hope I haven't done that sort of thing, sigh.

It's kinda reminding me of the people at DCA last month, who made nasty rude awful comments about my husband when he couldn't ride Mulholland Madness. His belly is indeed big, though he's dropped 60 lbs in the last 2.5 years, but he could have made it if he could have crossed his legs to allow the bar to come down...but his legs are solid muscle like a sumo, and he could not do it...it was awful enough, and then the peanut gallery started commenting as he, already embarrassed, walked to the exit. It's just not nice. (and after the trip he got a diagnosis of a pituitary growth, which is causing a hormone to go crazy in his body, a hormone that is normally for nursing women, and his endo tells us that that hormone is causing the slow loss of weight...a true, bonafide, glandular condition causing the weight to hang on....if those people knew they would probably feel bad, but they just chose to assume and open their mouths instead)

I just got back from CiCi's after seeing The Proposal(great movie,Betty White was WONDERFUL!!!),and I took 27 pieces of pizza but ate only 10(exaggeration,but you get the point!). Actually, the CiCis that we go to was just rated #1 in the chain for sales, marketing and customer service,so we have absolutely no issues with the place. Their garlic bread with the cheese is to die for,as is their cinnamon rolls. We put the apple topping on the cinnamon rolls and that is delicious. I highly recommend that everyone try CiCis at least once!!

I can't wait to try CiCis. Especially now that I know that their policy is not "all you can eat" but rather "take everything you can carry to your table whether you plan on eating it or not - because you paid!" I've always had big eyes at buffets and it's nice to know I won't have to waste my time in the debate about whether I'll actually eat it or not.:thumbsup2

We ate at Cici's once during our last trip to WDW. The food isn't exactly gourmet but at those prices who expects it to be? I must say that the people there were very nice.

As for the lady not eating all of her food, I bet that Cici's would raise prices if that is a concern. At even higher prices, they'd still be a heck of a bargain!

OK, I went to Cici's w/ my family today. MIL ate 4 pieces, I ate 5, DH ate 9, and his aunt ate 4. My DD, got 2 pieces that she didn't care for--OH THE HORROR--I didn't force her to eat what she didn't want. She did eat the other 4.

Just thought I should check w/ the pizza police to make sure I didn't break some sort of pizza buffet etiquette, by not forcing her.

:rolleyes:Right back at ya for not seeing the difference between taking plates full of food you have no intention of eating and not finishing something you don't care for.

If the pot stir...uh...OP is to be believed; the woman DID eat her food. Just b/c she doesn't care for the crust is not a problem. Why don't you call Ci Ci's and see for yourself. Many people prefer just to eat toppings. If the weird people with no life have a problem with it, oh well.
