Can someone explain how the tips work, do you chargeto your account or can you personally hand it to them?:earseek:

You can either give it to them in cash or go to guest services and charge it to your account, they will give you printed stubs which you would put in the little envelopes they provide for you and give them usually on the last night of your cruise .... Here's what was on the Disney Cruise site to give you an idea of the tip amounts for each:

What about gratuities?
We'll make it easy. It is customary to give gratuities in recognition of service, which you will most likely be treated to in abundance aboard the ship. As a guideline, may we suggest the following:

Per Guest per cruise 3-Night 4-Night 7-Night
Dining Room Server 11.00 14.75 25.75
Dining Room Asst. Server 8.00 10.75 18.75
Dining Room Head Server 2.75 3.75 6.50
Stateroom Host/Hostess 10.75 14.50 25.25
Dining Manager Your Discretion
Room Service Your Discretion

For your convenience, a 15% gratuity is automatically added to bar, beverage, wine, and deck service tabs. All gratuities can be charged to your room charge.
At the Walt Disney World® Resort, 15% is the customary gratuity at restaurants and bars.

Is there a tipping guide for extras like PALO's or the spa?

I don't know of a guide for those, I believe you tip at your own discretion for those 2 based on service .... Andy

what about room service? I thought I saw people saying a couple of bucks per visit but that didnt seem very high.

Yes we always had some ones in the draw to tip room service. We usually gave them a dollar or two.

No, they will leave them in your room usually the night before the last night onboard ..... Andy

We did our tips Thursday to avoid "the rush", because by then we knew what we wanted to do, and they gave us the worksheet and the envelopes there at the guest services desk as we charged the tips...then we got another set from our room hostess on turndown that evening. :) So you can get them either way.

The servers in Palo are not part of the "regular" resturant staff so your $10 for dinner is their tip. Personally I felt the meal alone was worth more, plus our waitress was so great we each left $20, but it again is at your discression.

Tips for the regular guys - servers, hostess and others, I felt it more personable to hand them their tip envelope. We stuck calling cards in with the tips (not instead of). A friend works on the ship and she commented they love them. CM's can buy them on the ship for $10 bucks a pop - 60 minutes, but you can get them pretty cheap from Sams or Costco, like $25 for 10 cards with 60 minutes.

So yeah, you can charge your tips, but where is the fun in that?

We charged the tips, and you get a reciept/ticket, much like the dining ticket you get in your room when you get there...

You keep a tiny stub, you tear off the other part, and put it in the envelope, along with anything you might want to add...such as the personal notes/drawings my kids did for our servers. So this way, should the server lose their envelope, they dont' lose the whole tip, as it's put into their onboard account for them, PLUS we still get the joy of showing our appreciation in a personal manner. :)
