Pay For CharacterInteractions?

I've never been to DL - we normally got to WDW, but a friend just returned from DL and said they were asked to pay for character interactions within the parks. And this just seems wild to me!! Is this a thing? Or did she misinterpret something? She said the only character interactions they were able to get without being asked to pay was at character dining.

Not a thing unless they meant by buying a ticket to an after hours event.

That is so untrue it goes under “things that never happened” not “misinterpreted”. There is no grey area here. The only ones you sorta pay for are character meals and even then it’s the food/experience, not the characters interactions on an individual level.

Sounds like Opposite Day . I would say character dining is in fact paying to meet characters and that’s the only place you are paying to meet them.

Yep, something is off with your friend’s statement. The only way to pay for a (nearly guaranteed) character interaction is to book a character meal.

If you have a Disney Visa card, you can go to the Disney Visa meet and greet at no cost during its limited hours.

Characters wander the parks and are stationed in specific places at Disneyland just as at Walt Disney World, and there is no fee to wait in line to see them. I don’t think there are character meets that use Lighting Lanes, but even if there were, guests would still be able to wait in line without paying.

Your friend could have been talking about meeting specific characters who appear only at after-hours events, which have an additional fee. But you can certainly meet some characters without paying beyond admission.

Thank you for the responses! I have no idea what they actually experienced, but I really didn't believe this actually happened - but also didn't want to dig in since I could only comment about WDW with certainty lol
