We’re going to Hawaii in oct for our 45 anniversary
We booked through pleasant Hawaiian holidays so not through the hotel itself
Looking through the resort website I noticed they have a meal plan plus other benefits
For the add on fee of only 3500$ for the2 of us for a week
I almost chocked
I know it’s Hawaii and Everything is so much more in hawaii
But honestly that’s almost what I paid for the package
There no way we could eat that much food and the other things we wouldn’t use anyway
Sorry for the vent I just wasn’t ready for that price

That’s ABSURD. Please price out booking stuff yourself- hotel, air, car- Hawaii is not hard to book.

It’s also a lousy all inclusive destination. If that’s what your after hit up Mexico or a Caribbean island. Hawaii has so much to see and do on all the islands, if you go beyond Honolulu you’ll want a car. And if you aren’t eating multiple meals away from your hotel you are missing out.

It’s more then absurd. We aren’t linking for an all inclusive I just happened to see this on the website.
It’s a Hilton on the big island we stayed at a Hilton on Oahu and really liked it. Good there was expensive but we know everything in Hawaii is expensive
I priced it out separately and we got a good deal through the package. The room alone is almost what I paid for the air and hotel.
It was just a thought I wasn’t ready though for that price🤪🤪🤪🤪

$83 per meal per person assuming 3 meals a day for 7 days. Yup high, but these days you can spend $20 a person for breakfast at Dennys on the mainland. These days people spend $95 upcharge per person for specialty dining on a cruise ship, on top of the fact they have already paid for dinner that night in the MDR.

That is definitely high, but be prepared for major sticker shock if you haven't checked restaurant prices yet. I was in Waikiki in May and our breakfast for 2 was $60 at a locally owned hole in the wall (but highly rated) breakfast place. Luckily, we were only there 2 nts on our way to Jaoan where everything was cheap.

While not worth either to me at least, if you stay club level at Hilton not in Hawaii you can add people at a discounted rate of 100 a night a person. That’s 1400 for a week with a basic breakfast snacks and Drinks. Add on packages are rarely worth the cost but if you drink a lot some can easily make it work. Some also just like the convinces….. just trying to be nice as we personally can’t make the Disney DP worth it and rarely could at past prices after they took the tip out and started raising prices. But one or a few days could always work.

At the Hilton Waikoloa? Crazy price, and limits you from eating outside the resort. We stay there every 4-5 years. Lots of places to eat in Kona.

Hints for saving food money: (we usually go for 2 weeks bc the flights from New England are so long, so we pay attention to food costs. More money to spend on other stuff.)
There’s an outside mall in the resort area that has a food court. It has 2 areas, King and Queen. The King area is very upscale, like Tiffany’s. Fun to browse. the Queen area is normal Mall shops and that’s where the food court is. Note that even chain fast food restaurants are at least 2-3 time mainland prices.
There a grocery store that will deliver groceries to your Villa I and even put them in your frig. https://foodland.com/. I don’t know if they’ll do that for a hotel room, but worth checking. Food is expensive in HI so we try to eat breakfast and sometimes lunch or dinner in our room or bring sandwiches. Even in grocery stores or Target, expect to pay 2 x mainland prices. Last time we were there (Jan 2022) we found the best prices for food at Target.

Just a thought to everyone Why not try a Trip to Europe ?

The Netherlands ( not just Amsterdam } , Germany ... Munich area ,

France .... Pau & into Spain .

Actually we did a British isles cruise last year and next year Northern European cruise. That’s why we decided on Hawaii. We haven’t been there in 10 yrs. It was expensive then I can only imagine now. last time it was something like 6$ for a gallon of milk

thanks so very much for the helpful tips sleepydeb
I looked up the queen marketplace and thought tht would be great
do you know approx how far it is since were not going to have a car

also I thought I saw somewhere that the resort has a shuttle to the QM I know there was a fare
but if not too far we can just walk there

I know Hawaii inst cheap and I was prepared for stick shock but I certainly didnt expect over 3000$ for a meal plan for 2 people that was just crazy

Consider, too, filling the corners of your suitcase with protein bars, dry cereal, drink powder, etc. -- they're certainly going to be cheaper in your hometown grocery store.

^^^^^THIS^^^^^

We pack a suitcase for breakfast and snacks for Hawaii and Disney. We did it once and was like yeah that was a good idea. For breakfast we get those Jimmy Dean croissant frozen breakfast sandwiches. We throw them in the suitcase in a collapsible cooler along with every ice pack thingie we have in the freezer. They pretty much stay frozen for the 10+ hours to HNL or Maui. Nuts, granola bars, 30+ box of individual chips, turkey sticks, etc. We are snackers when we are chilling in the hotel room/condo. And there is nothing like giving a snack to hangry DH or myself once we land at airport and are waiting on rental car/shuttle bus/uber/lyft. Or just waiting in hotel for everyone to get settled so we can figure out what's for dinner. LOL!! With a suitcase full of snacks no one goes hungry or hangry.

thanks thats a great tip about bring snacks and things
we used to do this when the kids were little but when it starte to be just
the 2 of us we try not to take so much
