The Official New Mom Thread Part 2

Jill--Love your new siggie pic! The family looks great. Matthew has always been a momma's boy. He'll come to me over just about anyone or anything. He's now going through more of a separation anxiety phase though--when I go to workout and have to drop him off in the daycare it's such drama--Emma went through it too, with her I think it was a couple of months and the drama was over. Now she'll go to anyone--kinda scary!

robin--how scary for your DH--glad to hear that he's feeling better! Hope you got to enjoy a pleasant evening at dinner!

dizagain--Hearing you talk about the DIY your DH is doing brings back flashbacks of our sink disaster of '05--DH thought he could install a new sink and faucet by just reading about it online. Well, 8 hours later and 9 trips to Home Depot we had a new faucet, same old sink! At least we could turn the water back on--all day we had to run to McDonalds if we needed to use the bathroom!

bnb--Wow, braces are expensive! Not looking forward to that--I had pretty good teeth, so hopefully the kids will get some of those genes! Did you get to make the cookies?? I had planned on baking tonight, but I'm a little sleepy--maybe tomorrow

SL--hope you don't get lots of snow so Lucas and your DH can come brighten your day at work! Cool on the new phone! :thumbsup2

ff--hope the miralax works for Kona. Don't know anything about hernias--but hope that's not what she has! :grouphug:

justhat--hope Henry starts to feel better soon--good thing he is still sleeping for you! How scary about your uncles xmas tree, my dad has always had me paranoid about real trees (for no good reason), so I've always had a fake one

diskim--hope you can get a little break. Sounds like you are super busy!

Well, I better go! Hi to everyone I missed! I just finished off Emma's bday cake and had some ice cream to go with it. I feel yucky! I guess too much of a good thing! I hope I get better sleep than last night. I don't know if the kids can sense that DH isn't here or what, but Matthew was a pill last night, up at least twice--and then I brought him to bed with me at 4-and then once he fell asleep Emma wandered in, luckily I convinced her to go back to sleep in her own bed. And then at 6 Matthew was up for the day--and then he proceeded to fall off my bed! Luckily, he took a pillow and his blankie with him--no tears at all! Always knew that kid had a hard head! ;)

I gotta go send an email to one of DH's brothers--he called today and wants to get the kids clothes for xmas, and wants to know where he should order them from--Hmmmm, where oh where should I tell him???? I may be getting my gymbo fix without having to spend any of my own money!!! :woohoo: Okay, so really going now! Have a great night everyone!

Okay, so yeah, not gone yet--but I have a question for you Disney experts;
DH and I are planning on buying 10 day no expire parkhopper tickets with water parks and more (yes, the sound you just heard was the bottom dropping out of our bank account!) Anyway, the question is--are the water park and more visits in addition to the 10 parkhopper days? If DH understands it correctly we get the 10 parkhopper days and then 6 admissions per ticket to either of the water parks, Pleasure Island or Disney quest. Are we understanding this right? could we in essence, extend the 10 days to 16 days if we went to one of the "more" places instead of the parks? Sorry if that is too confusing--I'm confusing myself typing it!

nucpharm,

I'm not sure. Have you checked the DVC special pricing for AP's? Would that be cheaper?

Nuc- I think your DH is reading it correctly.

I know that in 2003 when we bought the 7 day non expiring hoppers, with water parks 'n more, it was 7 days for hopping thru the 4 main parks, then 4 addt'l days for the water parks and PI. we still have 2 or 3 days on those hoppers for water parks or PI as a matter of fact. I'm assuming the tickets you are talking about are the same.

I think I even read that when comparing and contrasting SOG ticket prices vs. buying them ahead of time on Disney's site.

:goodvibes

Hi Jill! Love the new pic. All my kids have done that freaking out at bedtime, only wanting momma, etc. Joshua especially. I just had to be firm with him, make sure all his little ducks were in a row, and then leave the room and let him cry for 15-20 minutes. At 1+ they know what's going on and are just sole-minded on getting Momma to come back in that room! It's so hard though.

SL- woo hoo for the new phone! :woohoo: I got one last weekend, and need to program some numbers into it, etc.

Benihana went well- Molly only melted down during the ice cream. And we only had to pay the tip. :thumbsup2 I couldn't leave the waitress a gratuity on the gift card, so we still have $10 for next time. Plus I have one of those Entertainment Books that offers $14 off a Benihana dinner. Gosh, their food it just dynomite!

My kids have just sapped the life outta me today. Molly only napped on the carride home from dinner, and then she woke up at 8! I wanted to SCREAM. Joshua has just been an A-1 terror the last few days- I do not know what is up with him, but he's just awful to his brother and sometimes to me. I had to spank him tonight and send him to bed 30 minutes early because he punched Sam in the privates. WTH? Then he's in there SCREAMING that he's still hungry (that's his little game he plays- and DH always caves and gives him something to eat, but DH went to bed early)----I went in there and said quite meanly, "Joshua- you had rice, chicken, salad, apples, grapes and popcorn in the last 2.5 hours- there is no way you are hungry, so QUIT YOUR CRYING NOW AND GO TO BED!" And this is what my face looked like- :furious: . I just have had it today!

Thanks to all for the birthday greetings for DS!

I mentioned that we had his party this past Saturday, but there a few things I didn't mention.

DH and I had a girl that was renting a room from us. She works at the same company as DH. Nice girl, pays bills on time, and so forth. We told her in July that we were expecting another child and we would need more space. Thinking she would take this as a hint to start looking for someplace else to live. She finally moved all of her stuff out this past Saturday while we were at his party. She had two cats that she took with her (woo-hoo), but now my DS is showing signs of allergies.

We're trying to get the carpets steam cleaned, but haven't had a chance yet.

Saturday night as we were unwinding after his party, he was sneezing. Then yesterday morning, his eyes were really red. He never had any problems while the cats were living there. He would go right up to the cats and be just fine.

I was talking to my mom and she said it could be one of three things: 1: With her moving everything around, it kicked up a lot of dust and dander. It could be allergies. 2: He could be getting a cold since DH was sick all last week. 3: He could be getting his one year molars. My mom said that when my brother and I got our molars, we exhibited cold-like symptoms.

We have his one-year check-up scheduled for December 13.

Alice28- We live in Tampa, so we go all of the time. We're going to Magic Kingdom and Epcot. DH works for Anheuser-Busch, so we might go to Sea World on one of the days.

We did--but since we only go to WDW once a year, the APs wouldn't do much for us--this way with the 10 day no expire, we can use them for at least 2 vacations (since we'll only be there for 4 days this year.) Thanks Robin, that's what we thought!

Well, Matthew slept okay last night. He woke up around 11 and then at 6--but he's still being a reall crab bucket this morning.

Well, not sure what we'll do today. I suppose I'll go work out and then we need to find something to do to stay out of the house so DH can sleep. We'll see--hope everyone has a great Monday! :sunny:

Good Monday morning to you all. I'm kind of behind, even though I've been reading everyone's posts. I just haven't had the time to respond. Jimmy is doing his Jeckell/Hyde routine and has been SO much fun this past weekend.
We picked out our tile at Lowe's yesterday. It's a mosiac (sp?) of darker beiges and browns. DH bought 4 to put on the floor to see if we liked it and now has to go back and buy the rest. I think we're also going to put some kind of border around the perimeter of the room.

I scrubbed my bathroom floor on my hands and knees on Saturday night. I left a note for the contractors asking that they please use the bathroom in the basement from now on. I won't even get into it, but I was cleaning up after them everyday when I came home from work.

I put my Gymbo order in and used my 20% off coupon. I'm going to ask the manager at the store when they'll be pulling out last season's summer stuff to sell again. I just can't justify buying more stuff right now, especially since I have no place to put it until the upstairs is done.

I'm giving a test today and have to print out progress reports. It's not a difficult day, but I just wish I could be at home sleeping. Fat chance that I'd get any sleep, though. I think the mason is coming today to work on the chimney and I have no idea what everyone else is doing. The drywall is supposed to be delivered today, too. I think the drywallers are coming on Wednesday and will be done that job in one day.

I'm going to try to get caught up now. Be back a little later.

Good morning and Happy Monday!

I was supposed to go to the outlets and shop today with a friend, but my car is not starting. BOO HOO! I have a 2003 Honda Accord and bought it because people have always raved about how reliable they are. Including my parents who owned 2 Hondas. So I didn't buy the extended warranty and naturally I hit 36,000 miles about 3 months ago and this is the 2nd time this has happened to me since my warranty expired. I am bummed....and stuck home today now. Seriously bummed.

nyprincess - we're neighbors. I am in Tampa too and I am originally from Long Island. Where in NY are you from?

AAA is here, I will be back later. :wave2:

Justhat- Sorry Henry is sick again :(

BNB- LOL about the running around naked. Oooh, I hope the double chocolate chip cookies came out well. They sound delicious.

Alice- Oh gosh, both of my sisters tried to pull the “I’m hungry” card all the time at bedtime. They got away with it too, because my grandmother lives next door to my parents, but because they’re in condos, there’s just a door between the two houses, so it’s like they all live together. Telling my grandmother that you’re hungry is an instant pass into her kitchen.

Jill- 5 more days until WDW. I CANNOT wait.
Most of my siblings went though a “mommy phase”, particularly when she would leave for work. We would need to distract them while mom slipped out the door. DBro still is like that a little bit. He’ll start looking for my mom after she’s left and then cry a little when he realizes she left. Then he’ll get distracted with something else. I think kids act the most clingy when the person they want is still around though, because they know the crying or whining is going to get a response. Olivia even does it with me now.. I put her in the pack and play at the office while I’m working. If she sees me, she’ll cry, but if she doesn’t see me she’ll play in there. The other day, my dad caught me crawling across the office floor, because I was trying to get past the crib without the baby seeing me!!
I love your family photo!

Nyprincess- I’m sorry your DS has been sick! Sorry I don’t have any good advice for you. Have fun at the MVMCP. We’re going next Thursday :)

Lissawynn- I love mosaic tiles for the bathroom.

I’m pleased to report that all of my motions are done. I’m in pretty good shape so that I won’t have many projects hanging over my head while I’m gone. Still no luck with the job searching, but what can you do?
Thanks to this thread, I had a dream about gymbo last night. For some reason, my mom had a bunch of gymbucks, and told me to pick out whatever I wanted to Olivia and she’d take care of it. Of course I knew exactly what I wanted. I woke up this morning just shaking my head!

I need to make a list of baby things we need to pack. You don’t realize how many extra things need to come along once you have a baby. I need to have a detailed checklist, since we have to leave the house at an ungodly hour in order to get to the airport on time. Our flight was bumped from 7am to 6:15 am, which means we need to be at the airport by about 5 am, which means we need to leave the house around 4 am!!!

Nucpharm – Great pics from Emma’s party. I had that exact haircut when I was her age. Good luck tip-toeing around your DH this week.

Nyprincess – I’ve been having terrible sinus trouble since we tore off our roof and added an addition to our house. I think it’s just the dust and dirt that’s flying around every day. I hope your son is feeling better soon.

Alice – Maybe Josh and Jimmy have some kind of “terrorize mommy club” going on? The temper tantrums have been terrible these last few days.
I’m glad your DH is feeling better. I would have said food poisoning, but if you all ate the same thing and aren’t sick, it must not have been that. I have a very sensitive stomach and can get so sick so quickly from food. It’s not all the time, but it’s enough to be a pain in the butt.

Jill – I can’t see your new siggy pic here at school. I’ll have to check it out later. Yes, I’m officially a Gymbo addict, but I vow to only buy things that are really one sale. Jimmy never really went through a mommy only phase. He’ll cuddle with me, DH, my dad, and especially loves my older sister. He would go anywhere with her.

SL – Yay for your new phone. I knew it was time for a new phone when my middle school students had better phones than I had. I am not wrapping this year. It’s gift bags for everyone!

Dizagain - We have the home improvement channel running in real-life 24/7 for the last month. I just hope everything upstairs is done in the next two weeks like we were told.

BnB – Did you get your cookies made and pick out your tree?

Justthat – I hope Henry is feeling better.

Joats – Your tree looks great! I just have to motivate DH to put some hangers above our windows and I can hang my wreaths outside. We have our lights strung on our fence, but I’m not going to put out my garland this year. I’m too tired to do it, and I know DH would never do it “my” way.

DisKim – Isn’t it terrible how school is getting in the way of the holidays? I hope you can manage to enjoy these next few weeks, despite having to go to work. If I had enough sick days to cover me, I’d take off from the end of the second quarter through the rest of the school year. I could get my house back together and rest up before the baby comes. Unfortunately, I don’t have that option and because my bank account isn’t always full, I have to work up until I have the baby.

Zalansky – You MIL should get together with my dad’s wife. They’d be perfect company for one another. I hope your FIL is doing well.

I know I may have missed some of you, and I apologize. This is what happens when I try to get caught up at work.

morning ladies!

Today is my work day so I'm catching up with you all in peace and quiet. I need to finish up my calendars today, put up the rest of the Christmas decorations and run to the mall to pick up Tyler's pictures.

Our busy weekend was good. The parties we went to were fun and we found a great tree place this year where we could cut our own, and they actually had nice big trees left.

alice - sorry your dh got sick. Wierd! I've never been to Benihana and have always heard good stuff about it. Someday we'll get there. Great tree pics - we have the same patriotic Mickey shaped ornament.

nucpharm - Emma's birthday looked liked a lot of fun. Your kids are so cute :) I love your antlers :)

joats - Your tree looks wonderful! Woo hoo on the coupon and the deals you got at CVS!

sl - Did you find the sweatshirt? You reminded me that I need to get a new phone too, my contract just expired and I want a new plan.

jill - nice to see you  Your picture is great. What a beautiful family you have!

lissawynn - Your bathroom tile sounds great. I know it sounds weird, but I love decorating a bathroom. You can do so much with tile and fixtures!

ginamarie - I can't believe your trip is almost here!!

glt - Sounds like your talk with the kids went as well as it could. That must have been a tough thing to do.

z - Sorry your car wouldn't start!! I hope it's a minor repair!

diskim - I'm sorry school has been so crazy! Didn't you say recently that with DH's raise you could maybe stay home? No time like the present ;)

nyprincess - Happy Birthday to your DH and DS!!

justthat - Sorry Henry is sick again, poor guy!

ff - That's great that your MIL is coming to visit. How's Kona doing?

OK - I should run! Talk to you all later.

Tamie

I'm leaning towards the allergies only because he isn't running a fever. He's in a good mood otherwise. Still as cute as ever!!

zalansky - I used to live in manhattan. Boy, I miss NY in the winter. I can't wait to take the boys there for Christmas. It will probably be next year, though.

Mommies,

We could use some prayers and pixie dust. We just got back from the Dr.

Kona has a ventral hernia and we have to have her evaluated at Arnold Palmer hospital over in Orlando.

She said they may say to do nothing but it still has to be looked at.

:guilty:

FF - I got tears in my eyes reading this - not even knowing what it is, or what it means. It kills me when there are health issues with my children. When is the evaluation?

Oh Holly, I'm definitely going to keep Kona in my thoughts- you too!

When will you take her to Orlando? And what is a ventral hernia? Upper abdomen?

I can imagine how scared you must be feeling right now. :guilty:

Had a second to read...

floridafam - :grouphug: to Kona and you too! That is scary, I'm sure. Keeping you all in my thoughts and prayers! Also, thanks so much for the AG coupon!

Holly - Lots of hugs to you and Kona! It's terrible to see little kids get anything. I hope it all turns out fine.

Honestly, I have never heard of a ventral hernia. I thought she would say it was an umbillical (sp?) hernia. I'm not sure if a ventral and the other are related. :confused3

She said that it could do something like stay pushed out but I forgot the term she used.

I'm going to tell myself that they will probably say it can be watched and try to stay calm.

The Dr. did say that we should mention the Meckel's Diverticulum that our other DD had to the surgeon in Orlando just to be on the safe side.

We have to go next Monday at 10:45 so we will probably drive over and back that day and not stay in Orlando. If for some reason she needs surgery, then they will schedule it that day and we will stay in Orlando.

:guilty:

FF - :grouphug: How scary for you! I will keep you all in my thoughts and prayers and hope it is nothing serious and she won't need surgery!

I just did a quick google on it; it sounds like that was either part of her difficulties with pooping (why she's not able to), or it may have happened as a result of the straining? Poor baby girl!

I wish we could be there to help keep you company this week, and distracted, so Monday gets here a little sooner. :grouphug:
