*** The Official August 2019 thread ***

What would you do?
We arrive on 8/16 and should be at WL if all goes well by 4:30pm. We need to activate our AP's that evening. Originally I assumed we would hop on a boat to go to MK as it is the closest park and activate them - wonder around a bit - grab some QS somewhere there and then head back to WL. But it is the first MNSSHP night! So then I was thinking that the front of the park and guest relations/tickets may be mobbed by the time we get there - maybe 5:30pm (in a perfect world) - so that deterred me from MK. So then our back up was to get on a bus and head to Epcot - activate them there and use some FP's and hang out there for a while before heading to WL. Obviously MK is closer to WL but it may be worse to go there with the party.
SO... what would you do??????

I would hop on a bus, and go to Epcot. It isn't terribly far away, and you will get a few hours there, plus the opportunity to see Illuminations.

Has anyone been to Disney during the changeover from summer to fall decor? I assume with the MNSSHP on the 16th, the fall/halloween decor would be out. Since this is my 1st summer trip, I was hoping to see what their summer decorations/flowers etc.. were like. Does the change happen basically overnight, or gradually the week leading up to the party. I was there for Thanksgiving week one year (2008) and it went from Fall to holiday literally overnight!

I have been during the changeover a couple of times now. As I remember it, a few days prior to the first party, you will start to see a bit of the fall decor, then the night before, the majority of it goes up. Do keep in mind that nearly all of the fall decorations are only in the entrance promenade, Town Square, Main Street USA, and Hub areas. The rest of the park is not decorated for Halloween / Fall, and will appear as normal.

I hate having short hours, but if the crowds are so light that the parks are closing earlier than any of us remember, well I might take that trade-off!
M husband will be happy because that means he can still get in bed at a decent hour :rotfl2:

My friend who lives in FL said her kids go back on Aug. 12, I think. That seems so early to me!
I live in North Alabama and school starts here around August 7th. It used to be late August when I was in school but slowly it creeped up to the beginning. This is the first year I don't have someone starting regular school (just college) so I haven't really checked the actual start day but I think it is the 7th. Thankfully college starts a bit later so I won't miss my youngest son's first day of college. But then again if it di start earlier I wouldn't be gone the week we will be because hubby teaches at the local community college so he would have to be there and not on vacation.

I was there the first week in November 2008 and I remember at the beginning of our week the fall decor was up one day and the next day it had changed over to Christmas (this was on main street only though, I didn't notice it at the other parks).

I have so much to do I haven't started a proper countdown. We leave on 7/29, 15 -17 hours driving straight through to Florida, after we've been to a 7 hour outdoor swim meet. The planner (me) sucks...this was a stupid idea... 5 days at Universal first, but we have the Villains party during that time, then 2 weeks at WDW. DS16 broke his thumb yesterday, so now I can add doctor stuff to my TO DO list. Two years ago, we discovered he broke his foot the day before left (who knows how long he'd been walking around on it broken) so given that I had 10 days warning and no mobility issues to deal with, this is much better.

Wow! Sorry about your son's thumb. I have been having trouble with my carpal tunnel for several months and had to go get nerve testing. The test that was suppose to last an hour lasted ten minutes. The doctor doing the test said there was no need to continue because the numbers were so high he had never seen them that high...At least I finally found something I'm the best at :rotfl2: . After the test I immediately saw my doctor and he just came into the room shaking his head. He knew I had this trip planned so we have scheduled surgery for the Friday after we get back and he gave me a shot in my carpal tunnel to help until I get back. which wouldn't be to bad but I have my niece's bridal shower the sunday after my surgery  thankfully I have a daughter and daughter-in-love who both love to help with those things so they will be helping my sisters with things I won't be able to do with just one hand.

I'm sorry you have to deal with it all, but good for you that the surgery could wait. Trying to take care of anything that is healing -- cuts, sunburn, broken bones, sprains, surgery...anything, is just really hard to do in WDW.

Unless you have MNSSHP tickets, I would go elsewhere. You will need to leave the MK by 6pm.

I would avoid MK. We were at the MK during the day of the first party last year and left around 5ish. It was super busy at the entrance. Lots of non-party guests still arriving who had no idea the MK closed early. I would imagine some of those guests end up at Guest Services to complain and even if you did get into the MK earlier, the counter service locations would be slammed.

Epcot sounds like fun to me! :)
I would steer clear of Magic, especially since it's the FIRST night of MNSSHP. I would pick my favorite of the other three parks and head there.
Great! Thanks all! That is what I was totally planning to do until DH gave his two cents. Then I was doubting things. Epcot it will be!

They've updated MK hours today. Now it closes at 10:00 each night I'm there except the night there is EMH on the 7th ans it closes at midnight that night.

Crazy. I just looked around 1pm today and it was still 9! Im super happy to get a midnight day on the 7th and 14th (plus MNNSHP!)

Does Main St Bakery at the MK not have baked good (cupcakes/cookies/pasteries) anymore? Just looked at the menu and its all drinks?? With the new park hours, I was hoping to do bakery runs some nights before bed..milk and cookies. Tradition with the kids.

The menus I looked at still show baked goods. What menu did you use?

From the Disney website. I did see another from touring plans that mentioned pound cake and scones, typically starbucks baked goods, but not anything like what is used to be. I looked at photos too and really think they got rid of all the Disney baked goods :(

Now...
