*** The Official August 2019 thread ***

Got the email message yesterday that our MagicBands have shipped. So exciting!! I signed up for the text alerts, so it will be fun to watch the progress as they make their way from Florida to NJ. 😁 Only 24 days until we check in on 8/11.

Let us know what you all think. I told hubby I may go see it one day before we leave. I’m just limited on when I can go because my neighbor across the street has asked me to watch her 4 month old three days next week and two the next week. The rest of those days will be spent getting things packed and groceries bought so our kiddos have food to eat while we are gone.
I do hope to squeeze it in though.
I wasn't sure I was going to like a live action version but I loved it! I cracked up at one part - lets just say there was a little Beauty and the Beast nod. Wherever they filmed it was just beautiful.

Awesome! We are there 8/17 - 8/23 Im wondering if Florida schools start mid August? It might also explain the 9pm park hours during the week.
I emailed George Kalogridis and someone called me and basically said they determine hours based on crowds, so if light crowds for Aug, then that's probably why not longer hours

I hate having short hours, but if the crowds are so light that the parks are closing earlier than any of us remember, well I might take that trade-off!

What would you do?
We arrive on 8/16 and should be at WL if all goes well by 4:30pm. We need to activate our AP's that evening. Originally I assumed we would hop on a boat to go to MK as it is the closest park and activate them - wonder around a bit - grab some QS somewhere there and then head back to WL. But it is the first MNSSHP night! So then I was thinking that the front of the park and guest relations/tickets may be mobbed by the time we get there - maybe 5:30pm (in a perfect world) - so that deterred me from MK. So then our back up was to get on a bus and head to Epcot - activate them there and use some FP's and hang out there for a while before heading to WL. Obviously MK is closer to WL but it may be worse to go there with the party.
SO... what would you do??????

Unless you have MNSSHP tickets, I would go elsewhere. You will need to leave the MK by 6pm.

I would avoid MK. We were at the MK during the day of the first party last year and left around 5ish. It was super busy at the entrance. Lots of non-party guests still arriving who had no idea the MK closed early. I would imagine some of those guests end up at Guest Services to complain and even if you did get into the MK earlier, the counter service locations would be slammed.

Epcot sounds like fun to me! :)

I would steer clear of Magic, especially since it's the FIRST night of MNSSHP. I would pick my favorite of the other three parks and head there.

Has anyone been to Disney during the changeover from summer to fall decor? I assume with the MNSSHP on the 16th, the fall/halloween decor would be out. Since this is my 1st summer trip, I was hoping to see what their summer decorations/flowers etc.. were like. Does the change happen basically overnight, or gradually the week leading up to the party. I was there for Thanksgiving week one year (2008) and it went from Fall to holiday literally overnight!

There actually was a show on tv this past year about the changeover. They showed them starting the changeover immediately as the last park guests left and having it done in time for the park opening the next morning. It was a real interesting show and quite the production to make it happen. It also showed the same process that happened on the Disney Cruise Line.

Usually at the MK, you notice some yellow/orange drapings on the buildings and maybe some wreaths a couple of days before the first party, and then a day or two before the first party, everything else goes up overnight.

I’m always there for the changeover, and I’ve never even noticed what the summer flowers/decorations look like. :upsidedow

I was really hoping to see normal Magic Kingdom on the 15th and then fall/Halloween decor on the 18th. It's been forever (2009) since I was at MK on a regular day. My dd has only ever been to WDW in Nov. so she's only seen MK with Christmas decorations.

Speaking of decorations, my first time seeing Cinderella's castle was in May 1997. Imagine my disappointment in finally getting to go to Magic Kingdom only to find the castle decorated like some weird birthday cake. It was so much better in 2009!

Ive been Spring, Fall and Winter. Never summer. Not sure what I was expecting, but was hoping not all Yellow Orange and Brown!

My friend who lives in FL said her kids go back on Aug. 12, I think. That seems so early to me!
