Three Things...Gratitude Thread

Back when I had a garden
Tomatoes 🍅
Squash
Cucumbers 🥒
Pumpkins 🎃
We used to make tomato sauce and can it
We made pickles jars and jars and jars and jars and jars of pickles they were so good it was such a pain to make those pickles but my goodness they were so good
Every year we would try a new recipe that would make the tried and true and then we would make a batch a new recipe cause we didn’t make just one kind of pickle we’d make all kinds of pickles because it wasn’t just us it was us and our neighbor that also included the tomatoes because of both of us had gardens big gardens

And it was always fun to watch the pumpkins grow from tiny seeds into pumpkins and to see if we were gonna get a decent pumpkin 🎃

Oh the great excitement to get the first tomato and have that first tomato sandwich 🥪 nothing better than homegrown tomatoes 🍅 but I’ll never forget days and days at the end of summer canning tomatoes and making pickles 🤣🤣

I used to have a garden in my old house, but life got busy after moving here with a (then) toddler, and we skipped it for several years. Now I often do tomatoes in buckets on the back deck. (I've never tried canning, though. - We mostly use them in salads.) I have a small flower garden in front, and DH just noticed when he left for the gym this morning that the first daffodil had opened!

I'm grateful for:
  • Flowers this morning 🌼🌸🌼🌸
  • Local farm stands
  • My neighbors' large garden when I was a kid - They were a very patient older couple, and always let the neighbor kids help when we wanted to.

Happy Tuesday Friends!

I have such wonderful memories of my gardening days. We grassed over my garden in 2019 due to DD22’s softball schedule - I no longer had time to take care of it like I should. It turned into a chore and it was never meant to be something I dreaded to do. Some days I miss it, but not enough to make another garden.

#1 - The raised garden my DH made for me -
He made it and I planted everything. It really was a wonderful garden.

#2 - My giant pickle - this was tucked away where I didn’t find it for a long time, which resulted in it getting really big. This was a fun find

#3 - My giant zucchini - This was like the above pickle. It was tucked away where I didn’t find it until it was ginormous. It honestly wasn’t very good lots and lots of seeds. My DD22 was only 12 in this picture. Seems like yesterday.

I have always loved to garden, and happily knowing our sons share this love and do have home gardens!

Going to Dollywood when they have the Harvest and Gospel festival, and have giant pumpkins on display.

I hope to get to Epcots Flower and garden festival in May.

Mini yellow tomatoes- we had a garden for a while in our last house. One of the best things we had growing were these interestingly shaped mini yellow tomatoes. My girls loved taking them in their lunch.

Basil- that same garden had basil go to seed and we were overrun with it. We had more pesto and basil topped dishes for years.

AeroGarden- while it wasn’t a forever thing, I had one of those tabletop hydroponic garden systems for a while. Not everything grew each time I started it up, the most dominant plants took over, and the filtration eventually went wonky but it was neat having it growing on the counter and watching its progress.

Afternoon all,

Being totally honest, I love nature and greenery but I hate gardening. I'm not green fingered in the slightest!

1. Having a garden/green space - while I hate having to maintain it, I do appreciate having a bit of greenery and a garden that's my own private space. My gardens aren't big at all but I still appreciate the green all the same.

2. Garden centres - I have fond memories of visiting garden centres with my grandparents as a child, mostly because they involved a visit to the cafe and a piece of cake 😂 but to this day I still love going to garden centres for that reason!

3. Bees - I love bees and love the fact that I have a bush and some flowers in my gardens that the bees absolutely adore, and I really enjoy hearing them buzzing about through the summer.

I am another person who hates gardening, and have been for years, even before I had back problems!
My mom had a wonderful herb garden and would make her own pesto with fresh basil.
My 1st husband was, and still is, a great gardener. So many memories of huge sunflowers in August, giant zucchinis (I made zucchini lasagna), and so much work canning! I learned a lot, but knew I would never do it if left to my own devices.
I love arboretums and huge gardens at famous mansions.

I am not a fan of gardening either, though we have had them. They take a lot of time and effort, and I am lacking in both. However, I am greatful that our gardens provided us
Nourishment
Flowers
Money to pay bills

I do still grow a few flowers.

The holiday site I use (which recently changed its format) listed a whole bunch today - Besides Tax Day here in the US, it's National Laundry Day, Jackie Robinson Day, Pink Rubber Eraser Day, Glazed Spiral Ham Day, and Titanic Remembrance Day.

But this one especially intrigued me and I looked it up:

So if you have something purple to wear today, show your support for kids who miss their deployed parents, deal with moving around a lot, or have lost a parent or older sibling in the military.

Today's Topic (Wed, 4/15) - 3 purple things you're grateful for

Purple is the favorite color of a dear friend of both my Dad and I.

Grateful always to all who serve and their families.

As a kid, I did have an eraser collection. I know this has nothing to do with purple but lol it is also eraser day :)

Happy Wednesday Morning!

I love purple, but don’t have many purple things in my life.

#1 - LILAC BUSHES - I don’t have one, but I enjoy seeing other people’s bushes that will be blooming soon. They smell beautiful when you walk past them.

#2 - GRAPE JAM - I love it on my toast and especially my PB&Js

#3 - PURPLE NAIL POLISH - I wear a lot of purple nail polish. It looks good with my skin tone and I feel like it goes well with most clothes, unlike other colors. My beautician always finds great ones to use when I go for my manicures. A few of them I use multiple times throughout the year.
