Does anyone have thermometer suggestions??

The pediatrician asked me to go get an ear one today at Piglet's appointment.

He has croupe and they want to keep an eye on him and want me to monitor his temperature regularly. Apparently none of the local labs will test for swine flu anymore because it's everywhere here. So I have to monitor temperature instead.

I have this one or similar. It takes seconds to get a reading. Poor Lucas. I hope he feels better soon.

I thought rectal was the only accurate way to take an infant's temp?:confused3

We have a temporal thermometer from BRU that I have used a few times, though the pedi says it is not as accurate as rectal. We also have the ear one from Red Cross I believe (I think from Target- got it as a gift). Have yet to use it. I hope little Lucas is ok!

The ER took his temperature rectally but the pediatrician has only ever done ear temps.

r u still bf or total formula now? formula fed babies tend to go longer than bf babies though it is so individualized... allie has slept through the night mostly since 6 weeks... there have been periods when she wakes up a few times but generally since then. have you tried swaddling? that made a huge difference for us... she is still swaddled at almost 7mos, she is getting too big for the large swaddle blankets now!

Total formula...he self weaned (took less and less) so we are on enfamil (if anyone has extra checks i would love them!). we are still swaddling too!

Thanks for all the replies!

Regarding pictures... portrait innovations does a special for 9.99 and no sitting fee and you get a TON of pics!! the package is on their website.

Well I finally gave Emma rice cereal for the first time today. With my DS I gave him it much sooner, but everything I have been hearing now is 4 months. Well she is 16 weeks, close enough. She was so cute trying to figure out the texture. She has been sleeping since 10:30 on the full belly. She is not really a much of a day sleeper, but I am not complaining about nights. Last night she went for 8pm - 6am. :thumbsup2

The first H1N1 death has occurred in our county. A pregnant woman. :( I can't imagine.

Emma sleeps on her belly? Lucas has started rolling to his belly to sleep, too. That is how I sleep but since everything I've read says not to let them I've been worried. I'm glad Lucas isn't the only one.

So Emma liked the cereal?? :)

Emma loved the cereal. Lucas is on food now as well right??

You misunderstood me when I said full belly. She still sleep on her back and has not begun to roll over yet.

How old was Lucas once he rolled over? Seems like she is getting ready.

We only gave him the cereal the one time. Things have been so crazy here!
DH got sick, then Lucas got sick. I am so behind on everything. I finally got myself caught up and through next week with one of my six classes. Hopefully I get the others done too, before we leave. Homework then laundry and cleaning the house. Hopefully I can find time to pack before Saturday morning when we leave!

He rolled over on August 22nd for the first time.. so about 11weeks. It was my parent's anniversary and they stopped to see him. Mom put him in his crib and when we went up to get him later, sure enough, he was on his belly. Been doing it ever since.

Question:

Do your lo's get the red raw patches in their creases (around the neck, armpits, that sort of thing) and do you do anything for them?

They look so ouchy, but don't seem to bother her. They just bother me.

Yup.. all the time. I Just put a little powder in it and it is fine. :thumbsup2

Yes, she sure does!!! She had one that was cracked, it looked almost like a papercut. I used A&D oinment on that till it cleared up. I just make sure I get in there and clean all of her little folds in the tub and powder after.

Emma is getting a dry rash on her cheeks from eating her fingers and drooling.
I have been putting a little vasiline on that to moisten it up, and keep those little cheeks kissable!

DD has had rashes until recently. Inside of elbows and backs of knees in particular. Thought it was yeast at first, tried Nystatin ointment and Diflucan. Went to a dermatologist a week and a half ago--it's eczema. Have a prescription steroid ointment and am usnig Aquaphor. Works great! :woohoo:

So just to update...pumping at work is going really well. I'm just having trouble finding things to eat that don't require any prep and are heathy--cold pop tarts anyone? lol

I am having issues with oversupply. Last night I woke up and had soaked through the pad, the bra my shirt and the bed and was still in pain. It's annoying. I know it's because Lily only nurses on one side while I pump on both. Plus I just have too much to begin with. Oh well, I'd much rather have too much than not enough.

I can't believe I've actually made it this long. There were times at the beginning that I couldn't imagine pumping at work or much of anything. It's so much easier now.

Pumping is hard work, but I couldn't imagine stopping now. And I'm so in love with breastfeeding. I can't stand the thought of stopping next summer! I will probably nurse at least another year, but only at night.

Katie has had cereal 3 times, and we tried sweet potatoes last night. She loved them-took the spoon and tried to feed herself! But it is so messy! Tonight we did cereal again. I don't want to put too much on her stomach quite yet.

She slept in her bed all night Sat night-from 10 til 5:30! Last night, she kept waking up, and I gave up around 1am and let her sleep with us. Dh moved back into the bedroom from the couch this weekend.

My kids got flu shots at Walgreens today. I had already had mine at work, and dh is getting one at work next week. We've never gotten them before, but I'm so scared of bringing something in and giving it to Katie. I had to hold dd9 down while they did it. She is such a drama queen!!!! They are talking about doing the swine flu shots at school for all the kids. At first I was against it, but with all the child deaths in the news I think we will if they are offered.

I wonder if they will offer them at our school this year... Alex usually gets flu mist from the school, but they havent sent anything out about it yet.

So... big news from our house.. My husband got moved to first shift. He was nly supposed to be training for a week... At least he thought. But NOPE. It is at least until January.. maybe forever.

And some news I haven't shared yet...... Dylan has started to take to nursing!:cool1: I've been pumping for these kids for 3 1/2 months now, my goal is to keep them in bre@stmilk through this cold & flu seaon.

I've only been pumping 3x a day but getting 30-40 oz of milk in those 3 pumps. So they've been getting primarily bre@stmilk right along. Anyways, something just sort of clicked in with Dylan & man that boy, he really likes his bo-ob. He's also got a suck like a vacuum!

I don't see nursing full time to be practical, not with 2. And Katie just gets angry when I try to nurse her. Plus Dylan literally takes like an hour to nurse. I know that he could probably get better with practice, but I just don't see being able to devote lots of time to nursing practice, not with Katie as high maintenance as she is. But I'm hoping that even part time nursing may help me to maintain my milk through this winter. I'm aware how tenuous my milk supply may be with that few pumps per day. I try to fit in extra pumps when I can, but I know that I'm doing the best that I can.

You are doing the best that you can. I'm impressed by what you accomplish daily. I'm a big believer in breastfeeding, but have always wondered what I would do in the case of multiples. That's great that Dylan has taken to it. My son had a suck like a vacuum too.
