The "Newest" Moms Hangout...

All 3 of mine loved the swing! They were in it at the lowest setting coming home from hospital. They napped in it, too. CJ is a cat napper and stopped liking it around 4 months. He now likes to nap in his crab or pack n play.

Speaking of eating photos... Here is what Allison thought about sweet potatoes at first...

That is my high chair! I got the swing, pack n play, and high chair for $150. The secretary at my old school has a son who works for Babies R Us, and he buys everything they clearance and sells it at a big yard sale a few times a year. Everything still had the tags on!

Adi, Jake LOVES his swing and has been in it since pretty much the first week I brought him home. That's the only place he will nap longer than 20 minutes. Just the other day he slept for 3 hours in it! I have the Graco Sweet Peace Newborn Soothing Center...or something like that. It wasn't cheap but thank God it ended up being worth the money cause I get a lot of use out of it :thumbsup2

December, that picture of Katie is so darling! :goodvibes Oh, and I don't think I ever told you but congratulations on getting a 100 on that paper! I know you worked hard on it and it was very deserved :thumbsup2

Thank you!

:sad1:My ticker is gone. I am going to cancel my trip. I got so excited when the 4-3 deal came out, and booked when I really shouldn't have. I just want to go so bad! But today when Southwest released their flights, they were double what I was expecting. I talked to the kids, and neither one of them seemed very upset about the idea of canceling, and then I talked to dh. He doesn't think he will be at this job much longer, which means we have to move, so I can't justify spending that kind of money right now.:guilty:

I have a cousin who has that one and her 10 month old still sits in it - she apparently likes to watch TV in it. I just thought it was insanely expensive. . . now I'm considering it.

THANKS everyone for your info on swings. . . I really appreciate it!

I used the swing with all three of my boys, sometimes it was really a life-saver, but I would definitely see if you can get one used. They are pretty expensive.

Good luck with your labor and delivery!:goodvibes

Cute pics everyone!

DH is REALLY sick. Coughing, fever, etc. Dr. wrote him off work.

So, I tried to get a babysitter tonight for my class and I failed. Everyone was busy. So I went to the college, turned in my project, explained the situation to my professor (19wk old son at home that was currently being cared for by my very sick DH) and told him I couldn't stay.
He goes "I'm giving a pop quiz."
I said: "Can I take the quiz and go?"
Him: "No, I'm giving it at the end."

So I will get a 0. It kills me. The school issued a request that anyone that feels a teensy bit sick should NOT attend class. Yet teachers are still giving 0s when you miss a "pop quiz"! I know that I wasn't the one that is sick but to me it's the same basic principle. If the school requests you not come how can it be held against the students?? Grr!

I wasn't worried about missing this class because it's an ED course that I took last year. I was enrolled in it the semester my FIL died, I got a new job (with more hours), found out I was expecting Lucas, and had to go on a 2wk business trip for my new job. So I had to drop 2/3 of the way through because it requires 120hr (OUTSIDE the classroom) commitment on top of the actual schoolwork. I even had this professor! He knows that I have taken the course, he knows that I know the material.
I'm just very frustrated right now!

Veronica, that is what I am going to MAKE myself do. At 2, I think Katie will be able to interact so much more with the characters. And maybe we'll be in a more stable place with work and living arrangements. I've said it before, but being a grown up sucks so bad sometimes!

Patsy, that is awful. When you are a parent, that is your top priority. Your professor should understand that!

I quit teaching once and worked as an investment broker for most of a year. I hated it, but tried to make it work. I missed one freaking meeting when ds12 (who was 4) was sick, and one of the other employees told me that the boss had a hissy fit. She told me that I should concentrate on my career for 2 years, then I could concentrate on my family.:scared1: My kids were 4 and 2-was I just supposed to put them in a closet for 2 yrs?:confused3 I quit and went back to teaching after that.

Back at work today. :-(

My mom said Lily wasn't happy about getting a second bottle. She's only had one a day to this point. I really hope she isn't super hungry--wanting b-oob comfort all night, cuz I have to be here all day tomorrow too. :-(

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR. I am so mad.

Lucas hasn't been doing very well... his cough has gotten worse over the last few days and DH and I had decided I'd call his pediatrician in the morning and get him in just in case.

So I take him upstairs, put him on the floor in his room and ran to use the bathroom down the hall really quick. I came back, sat down to trim his nails and his fingers were BLUE. We took his temp really quick (102.6) so I got ready and DH got Lucas ready and I headed to the ER with Lucas. I didn't really know what else to do or what the appropriate thing to do was.

By the time we got there his fingers had regained color... but I told them anyway. We were the next ones to be called back and in the middle of checking on Lucas (his temp was 101.5 so either it dropped or my thermometer is off) this lady came up that was non-responsive. She was moving/alert/etc. but didn't respond to light, noise, pain, etc. so they pushed us back to the waiting room and took her in. (I don't blame them, I'm just venting.)
So they come out and give me some Motrin for Lucas and explain that they don't have another bed for him.

So I waited. Watched FIVE people leave and no one get called back. So I asked the clerk how long and magically 20 minutes later Lucas had a bed.
.....and we waited in that room for FOUR HOURS before I'd had enough. I hunted down the nurse, asked how long, and he said "I'm really sorry, I don't know why they do this, but this Doctor is REALLY slow. Horribly slow. And he's the only one working tonight." So he then goes and looks and Lucas is #6 to be seen. I decide to give it another half hour. Still nothing. So I decide.. okay, 15 more minutes... nothing.
So I go back out, find the RN, he checks and goes "I'm really, REALLY sorry but he's only seen 3 patients."
3 patients? In almost an hour!? I realize that not everyone is quick and in and out but c'mon! He could have at least popped in to see if he wanted tests run on Lucas or something.

So I left. Because in 3 1/2 hours I can call the bloody pediatrician! UGhhhhhhhhhhhh.

Veronica, Jake looks just like you! He is precious.:cloud9:

I was thinking the same thing!

OMG that sucks!! My mom is a nurse for 2 different offices and she hates slow drs. They ruin everyone's day.

It was a lot harder leaving Lily this morning. She was tired and cranky and I just wanted to hold her and make it all better. :(

Luckily she's either with me or her daddy until next Wednesday. I wish I could stay part time forever.

Is she going into daycare after that?

It's great she has gotten to be with you guys so long- you got quite a schedule worked out! Justin must be back to school by now??

Nope. No day care. My mom comes over Wednesday and Thursday and other than that either myself or Justin has her. When I go back full time, my aunt will come over for 4 hours on Monday and Tuesday and my mom every other Friday.

I know I'm lucky to have that, but I wish I could just drop 8 hours at work so my aunt wouldn't have her at all and I could be with her more.

Hey gals! I want to be a part of this loop so bad.. hopefully soon I can post more. I feel like if im not feeding/changing/rocking Jake, then im catching myself up on housework. I typically lurk here though while im feeding him- its just SO hard to type one-handed.

Jake turned 5 weeks yesterday-- holy cow where has the time gone!

When did everyones LO's start sleeping through the night? Jake will sleep 4hours and sometimes we get a 5 and a half hour stretch at some point. We never have had him not sleep (knock on wood)... but i was wondering when they begin to sleep a little longer.

I wish I could say a long time ago, but Luca is 8 months and stills gets up 3-4 times a night. Basically about 3 hours a pop. I really miss sleep....:charac2:

I'm sure I'll be in the same boat as you once Jake reaches that age...he wakes up at least 3 -4 times a night UNLESS I let him sleep with me. When he sleeps with me he sleeps for longer stretches. But I am trying to do that much less because I don't get much sleep out of fear that I might suffocate him or drop him...and it's also hurting my back!

Don't worry, we'll be here when you can get on more. Now that I'm back at work I'll be here a lot more. lol

5 hours is technically sleeping through the night  I would know since I've read every book from Dr Sears' Baby Book and NCSS ( No Cry Sleep Solution) to Ferber's CIO book. So from attachment co-sleeping all the way to mean old Cry it Out. I think I'm an expert in baby sleep now. lol

Studies show that babies start sleeping longer stretches around 6 weeks (give or take a week of course). 4 hours is GREAT for a 5 week old. Just keep up everything you are doing and it'll start to lengthen a bit, but remember studies show that even at 6 months of age only 50% of babies sleep for 5 + hours consistantly. Scary huh?

ETA:
Lily will sleep anywhere from 4-7 hours with me. (I thought my boo-bs were going to explode at that 7 hour mark!) My mom got her to take a 2 hour nap in her swing yesterday and she's been pushing me away at night, so we'll be trying the crib soon.
