The NEW WL FAQ (Part 5) Simbas and Tiggers and Humphreys OH MY!

@Lulu's Mom...HDD is a bit corny but I have to say a lot of fun. It is easy to get to from WL with the boat. My DD's ages 7 & 9 liked the show more than I thought they would. The food (fried chicken, ribs, corn on the cob etc.) is good and plentiful.

and DH is trying to convince me to splurge for what he insists will be our LAST WDW vacation and stay at WL instead of CSR. We've stayed at all the other moderates but never a Deluxe. He's right, we can afford it with a little more effort, we are blessed that $$ is not a huge issue here. I just squeak naturally. I've always enjoyed our stays at the moderates and the original 3 deluxes didn't really interest me but WL looks soooo amazing.
My AAA T/A is calling me back today with the new $'s. Please help me to feel better about spending the extra $!!! If we're going to do it, I want to ENJOY it, not feel guilty!

Here's the situation! I'm going home from January 11th-January16th and taking a whole group with me! After working with a DVC for a bit, I booked a one bedroom and two studios.

Is there any way that these three rooms can be joined together? I'd like to put in a request that is reasonable! DH and I are DVC members and LOVE LOVE LOVE VWL. We're bringing down three other couples AND (this is my favorite part) 5 kids who have never been to Disney! I'm so exited! (They're 2,4,5,8, & 14).

I had wanted a 2 bedroom and 1 studio, but they said they were booked. Grrr. I know I could request them to be near each other, but what are the chances that they could be connected? (I've been looking at the room blueprints but can't seem to make heads or tails!)

Thanks guys!

I am in the opposite situation as you. I wanted to splurge and my DH did not. We both really wanted to stay here so I made the plunge and booked it. The resort does look so amazing and I cannot wait. We usually stay at moderates or values as well so this will be a change for us. I am sure that the extra cost is justified, for us the extra cost was $500. We really like the idea of a boat to MK, how beautiful the resort looks as well as the grounds. We are also going around Christmas time next year and I have heard that this is one of the best decorated resorts there.

If you really feel uncomfortabel about changing resorts or even the cost, you could look at doing a split stay, a few night at WL and then the rest of your nights at a moderate.

I am positive that your trip is going to be great and if the money is really not an issue than do not worry so much, if worse comes to worse and you get there and hate the resort than you could just switch to a different one.

BTW when are you guys planning on going??

Thanks.. I have heard so many great things about this show but I have not heard so much about MBYBBQ. Has anyone ever gone to it? I am just curious just in case they happen to have it next DEC.

Thanks

We're going 8/25 - 9/3. TA has called back already. I've absorbed the sticker shock and we're going. I am lucky DH is not the pennypincher that I am. Although I may not agree that this is our last WDW trip, it may be our last "family" vacation. DD will be a senior in college at the time and how many more times can I expect her to vacation with us? So I will make this one as special as possible and enjoy!!!

Leaving this Sunday (Dec 11) for 8 nights at WL. We (My wife and I) have a courtyard view room. Any advice about requesting rooms? Any other advice?

Counting the days....

I don't have any advice about courtyard room requests, but have a GREAT time!! :goodvibes

We'll be going next year at the same time (Dec 8th-17th) so please come back and let us know how your trip went...I would love to get a feel for how busy the parks are during that week and how much you enjoy Christmastime at the Lodge! :)

You're so thorough, but I have some more questions. From what you've said, I'm getting the idea that standard rooms do not have bunks, right?
Also, would you recommend lobby rooms over the view of service areas?

thanks much :confused3

and it won't be our last! My DH and I absolutely loved it! We stayed in a HM suite on the concierge level and it was better than our HM at the GF!! It was beautiful! I had seen many pictures of the lobby, but it really was breathtaking to actually see it! We had a really great time and I am sad that it is over! If anyone ever has any specific questions, feel free to send a PM to me, I hope to be writing a trip report soon!
Laura

You will love going that week! We went from 8/27 through 9/4 this past summer and stayed at WL (which was wonderful). Yes, it's hot (but bearable since so many attractions are inside and nice and cool), but you can't beat the lack of crowds. We were just looking at all our pictures downloaded on our PC the other day. We thought it would be several years before we head back down, but we are saying no more than two years! Happy planning...

Woohoo! It official! A BIG Christmas surprise for the family (DH, myself, DS8 & DS4)
We've requested bunkbeds and booked a woods view room. Any suggestions for location?
How is the weather this time of year? Do we pack shorts or pants? We're Canucks so we'll swim in any pond that isn't frozen but it would be nice to have some Florida heat in February.
We're driving down - so any suggestions are welcome.

THIS is a great time of year. We are from Chicago and any weather above 50 is swimming weather :rotfl: we love the fact there are not many crowds and even the short park hours make for a restful trip. Enjoy. and I look forward to reading your trip report.

We just got back and had the perfect room. It was a woods view by the elevator near Roaring Forks, but not so close we could hear the elevator. It was 4028. Your also close to the launches and pools on this side of the lodge. We could see the monorail, the lake, and the Contemporary through the trees. As an added bonus we had a great view of the fireworks too!

Beware the bed posts, we have the bruises to prove it!

I have read that the crowds are small (short lines for the popular attractions) so this will be a nice change. I always travelled in August with my family and our first trip with our son was in May - BUSY! February just depresses me - I'm not a snow lover - so hopefully this will help beat those winter blahs!
I put in a report once I'm back - I just love reading everyone elses - informative and real life situations. Great to learn from others experiences.

Did you ask for any special requests or upgrades? Was the room in the north wing or south?

I'm not sure on the directions, but it's on the wing on the Roaring Forks side.

And no we didn't do any requests. We had booked a Standard room (cheapest available), and they gave us an upgrade. But if I were staying in the lodge again I might request this room location again.

Any "must-do's" learned from your trip? What did you love most about the hotel?

CD, I'm seriously thinking about getting rid of our King request for my mother and her BF. That would make my other requests have more of a chance of being met, and also less of a chance of us getting stuck on the ground floor.

We were on the ground floor when we went (Dec 1-4), and we liked it. We looked out on the Villas Courtyard, and we liked not having to use the elevators all the time. We were in room 1136, and while it was odd to use the elevator to go to the lobby, it wasn't an inconvenience to us. We were using a stroller for my DD, so being on the ground floor worked well for us.
