Of course now that everyone can do it, their advantage is over.
Anyway, back to turning down a bowl.
I don't know whether anyone has mentioned this but Notre Dame is part of the ACC's bowl package. And those bowls agreed to certain pay outs partially on the basis that they can get lucky and get a Notre Dame team on occasion. I don't think the Bowls in the ACC's package are going to be too pleased about Notre Dame thumbing their nose at bowls they think are beneath them. And the ACC shouldn't be too pleased about it either.
They’re so not playing like champions.

Hypothetical odds making doesn't mean they necessarily belong there.Vegas oddsmakers would make ND the favorite on a neutral field over 10 of the 12 CFP teams. Only IU and OSU would be favored. Notre Dame's decision to not play in the Pop Tarts bowl is reportedly going to cost ESPN $50,000,000. Seems like a decent way to make a point. Believe it also cost the ACC some money.
NBCs ratings seem to be doing pretty well with ND football.
In a roundabout way, you bring up a good point. I was just thinking the other day about how it's all about financial ability to attract college talent. I've not any research but thinking schools with money (Vanderbilt, SMU, and Indiana) can now financially build teams in was that the prior traditional model could not.
Well deservedMendoza just won the Walter Camp Award.
Look for him to win the Heisman, etc. as well.
Beating Ohio State wrapped everything up for him.

I would imagine Notre Dame also justifying the opt out due to a home game not airing on NBC or its platformsVegas oddsmakers would make ND the favorite on a neutral field over 10 of the 12 CFP teams. The Vegas spreads aren't set based upon who they think will win. They are set to get 1/2 the betters one one side and 1/2 on the other. Against the best two teams they played, they did not cover. In fact they were favored and lost outright. They covered big time against most of the weak teams they played the rest of the year. Yes, Notre Dame is costing quite a few powerful players quite a bit of money. That's not very smart because those major players will be back to collect their pound of flesh. As for NBC, uh they added a Big10 game to their lineup. If Notre Dame were all that on their own, NBC wouldn't have felt a need to do that. Three of the top 4 rated CFB games involved Ohio St. They had 6 games in the top 50. The Michigan game. The Big10 Championship, and the Texas game. were the 3 of the top 4. Alabama had 10 games in the top 32. Notre Dame had just two games this year in the top 50. Notre Dame's status as a major TV draw croaked when they went 0-2 to start. Notre Dame still draws big when they're contending and playing another contender. But times have changed. It used to be they were one of the biggest draws even when they stank or played nobodies. This year showed that is no longer the case.Vegas oddsmakers would make ND the favorite on a neutral field over 10 of the 12 CFP teams. Only IU and OSU would be favored. .....so your saying that Donald Duck has no impact on NIL.... AND that a kitchen cabinet has more NIL power... today is December 11th....60 days later I am still soreIU has a strong fan base that will show up with the money. NIL seems to have done them well.
Yeah I never understood why people think paying players is something new? How do people think that UCLA won all of those championships in basketball back in the 1960s and 1970s? They had more money than other teams and paid for the best.
