Cali, when we had lunch at the GFC in June our server told us that there was scuttlebutt that the Cafe might reopen for dinner by October! Wouldn't that be nice. I made some PSs today for that trip, though, and it wasn't in DD's computers as of yet. I certainly hope she was right!

hi everyone, does anyone who has stayed at the gf main building consierge have an opinion as to where the quietest rooms are located? i'm guessing the ones that are furthest from the lobby? anyone have room numbers? thanks in advance.

Actually, I'm sorry to say, there really aren't any quiet rooms in the main building. You'd either be near the lobby, restaurants, or marina. All of them are noisy areas.

We are staying at the GF May 2003 and are trying to figure out how to get a suite that has a MK view.

We are four adults + 3 year old. We currently have booked a 1BR Type B4 Suite booked in Sugar Loaf Key Concierge. Its pricey to say the least. But no MK view.

From what I have read there are no rooms with MK views in the SLK. So we are considering bailing out of SLK and going to another lodge. RPC Main building has no 1BR available during our time period and is even more spendy.

We looked around the DIS board and saw that there are 2BR suites in Conch Key (thanks Janet2K) that have 'the view'.

Is there such a thing as 1BR non-conceirge suite?

Would the 2BR Conch Key suite be cheaper than our SLK conceirge suite?

Are they 1BR suites that have the view elsewhere on the property?

Help...

The 2BR suite that Janet2k had would be more expensive than the 1BR suite in Sugar Loaf.

Your B4 suite should be costing you $1075 per night plus taxes. There are 1BR suites with MK views (guaranteed view - a BD Suite) for $985 per night (one king and queen sleeper). A 2BR Suite (like Janet2k's - a BU suite) with guaranteed MK view would be $1465 per night. You could also book a BQ suite (same price as BU) and request a MK view. Both have a king, two queens, and queen sleeper; BU also has a daybed. BU is in the regular box style room area of the building, the BQ is on the fifth floor and is an attic suite.

hi, thanks for the info. bye the way, which floor (3rd/4th)/room did you stay in and where did the noise you heard come from? (the band in the evening?, which restaurant?) thanks

Thanks so much for that info. We will try and book a BD next week. If we get the view my parents and DS will be thrilled.:smooth:

blanche, you want to avoid the 3rd floor lobby and courtyard view rooms. If you are down by the marina, you'd be okay. The 3rd floor lobby rooms has the band and shops and lobby to make noise, the 3rd floor courtyard rooms have Citricos making noise (though it would be as bad as being over other restaurants).

Stick to the fourth floor, marina/MK view for the quietest spot at night (unless people decide to sit out on the patio outside of Gasparilla, then you might be able to hear them depending how loud they get). Courtyard view on the fourth floor would be fine, too, if people in the pool aren't too disruptive at night.

Mainly, just request the 4th floor and your view preference. You'll probably hear more noise through the connecting door than the public areas!

thanks for the great advice! 4th floor -marina/mk view. at least i won't have to worry about noise from next door since we always book connecting rooms!

Califormia dreaming-

Do you remember your room # for the room you had when you stayed in the Big Pine Key? What floor were you on? Did you have a balcony?

Thanks!

We were on the second floor. All the rooms on this floor (#9241-9247) would be good. Actually, any room in Big Pine Key ending in 41-47 has a good view. They all have balconies, the ones on the fourth floor have the dormer balconies. :)

I posted this on the resort board but remembered the faq here- What is your opinion of the GF Honeymoon Rooms? I am planning our "big trip" to the world- and have been reading about the honeymoon rooms at GF- Do you think they are worth the extra money? I like the idea of a MK view but also love the idea of octagonal views- what do y'all think about the two types?
Dana

The honeymoon rooms really are nice! Both the octagon and jacuzzi rooms have their pluses to them; I think if I would book one I'd probably go with the jacuzzi room for the balcony and view. :)

Cali-
Thank you! After I went to bed last night and I was having my nightly "reality" check- I kind of realized this- We are planning on doing the GRand Plan for this trip- and with that plan you get concierge service- so if we took the honeymoon room we would be paying for concierge twice (does that make sense?)... I'm not sure that the honeymoon room is worth the extra money just for the room? Are they bigger than a regular LV room? If you were using the gp for your trip would you pay for the honeymoon room? (Taking the honeymoon room adds $1200 to the trip... I have been saving for the trip for a long time since money is an object) I need some advice on this situation- would love to have the very romantic room but am thinking that maybe a lv w/a king would do just as well since we are using gp?
Dana

Thanks! That's what I thought? I know this is the GF FAQ but do you think the GF is a good place for this kind of vacation- my dh has only one request and that is that we stay at a monorail resort...
Dana:rolleyes:

You know, after trying different WDW resorts, the only place that I really want to return to is the Grand Floridian (I've also stayed there the most times, too!). I would like to stay at the Polynesian or Wilderness Lodge again, too, but I'd still rather go back to the GF. I'll try the Yacht & Beach Club next trip, but from what I've seen it still just isn't the GF.
