This photo (and a video showing worse) was shared on Reddit about the state of the Mabrika Cove Family Cabanas and all of the erosion happening. I'm a bit surprised that DCL is allowing guests to use them in these conditions and that they are still selling them at full price... Curious as to how hard it will be to fix and keep it fixed

I think the ocean is going to do what an ocean’s gonna do. Don’t think there is an ecologically positive permanent fix?

I mean, there are ways to fix erosion but nothing that is environmentally friendly. Sea wall would definitely help.

I think it’s a bit ironic that DCL seemed to prioritize having these finished before making sure the rest of the island was as finished as it needed to be for the first guests to make a strong positive first impression. I also have never understood why they decided to have these as the family cabanas instead of adult ones but that’s just me.

It's not just you! I still don't understand why the family cabanas are away from everything and the adult cabanas are next to the family beach with no separation.

Those look one bad storm away from being in the water. The overall island design feels more and more mediocre the more I learn about it and read people's experiences. I hear it's beautiful, but that seems to be the only place it shines. I may never see it, because my wife went and didn't love it, so her preference will be to go to Castaway in the future, and I am not drawn to it enough that I care that much. Castaway hits all the right notes for me already.

I can't imagine being happy with those steps and beach access when you are paying what they charge. Yes, you can't do much about nature. But you can understand the erosion risk and build further back with a different type of beach access so that you don't end up with steps with a five food drop at their end.

I watched the video & read the original Reddit poster's experience--it is unbelievable that Disney is allowing people to use these cabanas, especially without warning families! What a dangerous situation! What engineer would allow these structures to be built on that strip of beach?!

I saw the post on Reddit where they said they didn't use it and didn't get any compensation. I think they blew it by not asking for compensation that day. They could have been denied since the cabana was there and maybe there was no mention of beach or sand in the description, but they should have shown the pictures and asked considering that they said they didn't use it at all because they thought it was dangerous for their kids.

I guess they never said you wouldn't need to jump down 4 feet to access the water?

But this is pretty bad. I realize there still is a way to walk around and access the water, but that really defeats the point of a cabana. I still think the included areas at Lookout are great, but this is a waste of money and space.

I’m no expert on beach erosion but here in New Jersey it is all about encouraging the return of dunes and wetlands.

Maybe Lookout didn’t give enough time for it to establish after construction of the cabanas?

Wowser! That is bad. I would be asking for a refund. Not looking safe to me, in that photo, from that angle. The time I was at Lookout in April, the placement of the family cabanas did not make much sense to me. I would not be booking one.

A dune system is part of protecting a beach from erosion and the typical cycles that long established beaches have. But was this a long term sandy beach before Disney came along? One poster on Reddit that is from the area indicated this was more of a rocky beach area... which makes sense as this is a POINT on a rather long island.

I do wonder if the erosion is worsened when a big ship is sitting at the end of the pier?
