The Hyena Chat thread: Everyone's welcome!

My ears are muffley and sore.. gosh I'm getting old.. can't even handle a concert anymore:eek:

:lmao: :rotfl2:

I met a new online friend today. She is on the Komen message board, is 28 years old, from New York, is a pre-school teacher and has the same type of breast cancer that I do. Only 15% of women have triple negative breast cancer and only about 1-6% have medullary carcinoma. So I had two things about mine that were both rare. In 2 years I have only met 1 other woman that had the same type.

Very rarely do I find anyone that thinks their cancer was caused by environmental causes. Yet both of the women that had the same type as me felt that their cancer was also caused by environment, just like I do. Anyway, there is not a lot of information about our particular types of cancer. So it's kind of exciting to meet someone with the same diagnosis.
Wow. And basing the environmental cause on something in particular, or just because there's no family history?

I bet she's glad to speak with you, since you've "been there, done that", and are doing so well.

I guess it was a pretty good day. Got the financial statements for one hotel finished and started accounts payable. So how was your day?

I've heard of that show, but never watched it. I take it they are separated from their families?:confused3
Good day. GOSH, it was beautifully sunny today! So unexpected these days. ;)

I have seen only a handful of episodes of this show, so I don't know much about it, but I gather they are kept in some sort of house or dormitory. They eat meals together, and I think they might share rooms, i'm not sure. There are two teams, and each team has a professional trainer to help them lose weight. They really push the folks hard, and the results, hard as they are to get, are nothing short of amazing!

Where did you go???

I saw that the Trans Siberian Orchestra is performing in Seattle in November. DH and I loved their music when it first came out, and I thought it would be fun to go. There was some sort of special pricing, like 4 seats for $110 or something like that, which for a concert was very reasonable, even for nosebleed seats! I was going to ask fi he wanted to go, but he's going to balk about going with the kids (they'd probably need to wear ear coverings), and DS4 might not sit still through the whole thing, both boys could potentially be bored to tears (though I bet DS8 would like it), and it would mean a lot of walking for DH with his bum knee... Probably not a good idea. :(

ETA: Whoa! Where did the ROFL guy come from? I didn't put him there!

I won free tickets for Rock Band Live (sponsored by MTV and Xbox 360) thru a local newspaper.

We took it as an evening to tromp around downtown, picked up tickets ($10 for two) for MN Ochestra that I got thru another promotion. Will have my sis go with me-- but she has to pay for parking. ;)

The concert was a big commercial for the XBOX360 game of Rock Band (think Guitar Hero but it has other instruments and singing).

Between groups they had people competing on stage , playing the game. Best Buy had a group-- it was funny to watch , all in their blue shirts and the singer was a chubby guy and went all out jumping around and getting hte audience to take part-- it was funny!

We didn't know the bands too much.. like two songs or less for each one.:rotfl:

Opener was The Cab , they were just okay.. very much just an opener-- new, young band.

Then it was Plain White T's , song after song of hmmm interesting.. until they played Hey There Delilah... the one song we knew ! E and I belted it out with the audience. :goodvibes

Did I mention we one of the oldest couples there? Most were teens (with mom or dad) and a bunch of 20 yr olds.. we chuckled trying to spot the crowd for more of the 30 plus group. :rotfl2:

next was Dashboard Confessions, three songs!! Plus th4 lead was very genuine.. obviously loving what he does.
At the end of thier set they invited The Cab and Plain White T's on stage again.. saying that backstage they had "one of those songs that gets stuck in your ear"

They started banging out the new Pink song of Rock Star. Loved it! Got everyone all crazy.

And last was Panic at the Disco.. okay so we only know ONE song very well from them and one other that is new (that we may have heard only a handful of times on the radio) .

They played song after song after song .... that we did NOT know. I was about to ask E if we should leave and finally they played the one we really knew.. after that we left.

Might as well end on a good note. :rotfl:

Is it considered odd that I clapped with glee when I saw that peanut butter captain crunch was on sale at Albertson's? :rolleyes1

The majority of the women believe their cancer was caused by stress. The second response is by genetics due to a family history. This is just kind of an informal survey that we do on the Komen board every once in a while. It's not scientific at all, but I do believe that most of the women know what caused their cancer. Maybe it's a gut feeling, maybe just knowing your lifestyle and putting all the pieces together. But there are usually very strong feelings or hunches of what caused it.

Many of the women are diagnosed during divorce, have an extremely stressful job or have gone thru very recent extremely stressful situations right before their diagnosis. Our hunch is that being mentally stressed causes you to not take care of yourself, allowing your body to get run down and then your immune system can't repair the damaged cells so they start multiplying and voila, cancer.

Personally I think mine was caused by pesticides on the many fruits & veggies I ate over my lifetime and by something in the old building that I worked in for 13 years. I think it damaged some of the cells in my body and my body just couldn't repair them or destroy the bad cells fast enough. Mine was very fast growing.

So what's up ladies? How was everyone's day?

I'm eating cereal for dinner because gosh darn it, if Alex's family can do it than so can I! :rotfl:

Sounds like fun! (Even if your ears might be ringing tomorrow!) :rotfl:

Hiya, pixster!

Yes, because I noticed that you didn't mention having a mfg. coupon to go with the sale price and getting it for free!:lmao:

Personally I like regular, but DH always liked Crunch Berries. When we were first married we used to buy the Crunch Berries and then sit and pick out all the berries for DH and all the regular for me. Alas, then the kids came along and we are lucky if we get Cap'n Crunch before they hog the entire box. We're just wondering when they are going to make a Cap'n Fibre Crunchberry cereal for us old foggy's?:lmao:

That makes sense, however traditional medical personnel wouldn't agree.. They forget that women's bodies are much different and emotional well being plays a HUGE role in our health.

You will find that others with chronic illness and other types of cancer would agree.. that gut feeling of "this is the cause" and the docs slap a differnet label on it.. because they can't really prove the "why" in some cases.

Well you better get goin to Albertson's because it's on sale for $1.99 a box. :rotfl2:

Let me hop a plane and get it then

:lmao:

hmmm, but I wonder since Albertson's is owned by Cub Foods now.. I bet it will be on sale when our ads change on Sunday.

I believe ad change is mid week at Albertson's?

;)

I don't like crunch berries. I did when I was little but when I tried them a couple years ago, it tasted really bad. :rotfl2:

I love Pink's Rock Star song. Of course I wonder how her DH feels about it since she wrote it about him when they split up, then they got back together.:lmao: Of course they are probably split up again by now. But I just thought that sounds like something I would do, write a song while made at my DH and then it goes to #1.:lmao:

:lmao: :rotfl2: :rotfl: That's true. Celebs don't like to discuss their romantic relationships with E! yet they write it in a song and make tons of $$$....you know, to help deal with the heartache. :rotfl2:
