The Groovy New Pop Century FAQ Thread!

My first time! We were booked to stay at Pop last year in March, but changed our minds and went to PORS, trying to convince myself to spend less and stay longer. Your report helps, I am still trying to talk myself into it.
I have been reading the boards for years and just signed up.
Is it very easy to get connecting rooms on the ground floor? If booked far enough in advance?

We just returned from a week at Pop. We really loved it. Unless we win the lottery and can afford Poly, I think we will always stay there, even over the moderates. The rooms were very adequate, the beds were comfy, the air conditioning worked fine and we never had a problem with it shutting off, they were not noisy at all, and it was not a long walk to the main building from anywhere. The pool was nice, the splash pad was great, CM's were nice, the food court was as good as any food court and better than many, and bus service was efficient. As far as noise is concerned, my son's apartment is much noisier - you can hear any time a neighbor takes a bath or runs water in any way. For the sink stopper issue, if you take one of those circles of rubber that are given out as jar openers, they usually work well as a sink stopper and take up almost no space. I took a night light since we had young kids in the room, but the light by the hair dryer was probably an adequate night light for most people. (I hate stumbling around an unfamiliar room in the dark!) There were bunny rabbits and families of ducks wandering around the grounds, which were very attractive and well kept.

I'm sorry for being daft, but the sinks don't have stoppers?

Which rooms are considered the "preferred" rooms? We will be staying at POP in Dec. and would love to have room in the 50s section. My family is avid bowlers and think this would be super cool. Can I request that now, or do I have to wait until we check in? (I'm going through Dreams Unlimited)

We also need rooms that connect? Is that what I request if I need a room that has a door going into the other one? Or is it adjoining?? I know that one means right next door, but which is which? lol

You want connecting rooms. We did that last time and it worked out great!

My sister & I stayed at Pop last Aug. with my 4 kids and we had two rooms that connected in the 50's bldg. They were not considered "preferred" rooms then.....so I would definately request them now and let them know that you want the rooms to connect to each other.

This is my first time posting, but I'm planning to stay Jan. 8th - Jan. 12th. When I try to book, or even get a quote, for these dates on the Disney site, it tells me it cannot be made yet.

All other travel sites say there is nothing available for any Disney World Resorts for these dates.

Does anyone know when the earliest I can book my package for Pop Century?

We had connecting roomsin the 60's 4th floor backside preferred.We looked out at the 50's and the bowling pins. Word of advise poolside is noisey, but looking at the mapof Pop the preferred rooms which are nearere to Classic Hall wouldn't be too close to the poolBldg 1( Lady) looks goodespecially if you requested not poolside . You can request now and follow up a few days before at Pop when they start assigning rooms. Stress that connecting is important. We had 2 dbl /dbl rooms the 1 king/1 dbl/dbl are harder to get. Have a great trip Pop is awesome.

I have stayed in the 50's section both of our last 2 trips, neither being preferred. Just mention to your TA that you would like the 50's section. While requests aren't guaranteed they are usually honored. Also tell them that you would like connecting rooms.

Our first trip, we were in the back side of the Tramp building. It was a good location. This time we were on the backside of the Lady building and it was perfect! We had a short walk to both the Classic Hall and the buses.

I am staying at POP 9/20 - 9/26. I am going with my DH and DD4, we are going to be in a standard room. Am I better off requesting a certain location, or should I just roll with it and see where they put us? If I do want to request a certain spot, how do I go about doing that?

I have stayed at Pop twice and we are returning this Sept. and we ALWAYS request a room in the 1980's section poolside and it's great! It's not considered a "preferred" room....except to us! It's not far from the main hall if you cut across the parking lot.

No where is super close to Classic and buses,even the 80's & 90's if you take short cuts aren't bad.

I just tried it through te Disney Online site and it worked for me. Give it another shot.

There are stoppers, but someone a few posts before had mentioned their stopper not working well so I mentioned that tip. I didn't have a problem with it, but I didn't try to soak anything either. Yes, there are hairdryers.

As far as requests go, be sure to put down the most important thing first. If you really want connecting rooms, put that first. They will try to honor your requests, but they will work down from the top of the list! And there are no guarantees. If someone has asthma and you need non-smoking, mention the medical issues and put that first. We had connecting rooms and no problem. The good news is there really aren't any bad rooms. We had non-preferred in the 70's, and loved it. Easy walk to everywhere.

Thanks for the replies, everyone! I am giddy with excitement. I don't know how I will last 6 more months. *sigh*

As for the pool side, we are going in December. We usually go in April, and I'm not sure about the weather. Is it usually warm enough to swim at all in Dec?

Also, I am worried about the transportation from POP to the parks. Is it any kind of a problem? How much time does it take to get from POP to the Magic Kingdom? And would it be worth it to go to Epcot and then just take the monorail to the MK?

Yes they have a walk area around Pop and you can run or take a walk around the lake.
If it were up to me I would go to epcot and take the monorail to MK but it all depends on the circumstances at the time.

The busses are great at Pop, you don't share with any other resorts. It only takes about 20 minutes on a bus to get to MK.
