I just got back from a fabulous week at POP! I have to say it was just as wonderful as I had remembered. Plus, I tried that tye-dye cheesecake for the first time and it was absolutely delicious!!

For us $10 a day was worth getting a fridge. We needed it for meds and special food for our son. If I needed to cut cost on vacation this isn't the one I would choose.

I could not travel if I didn't have my meds along but why pay for something when it is guarenteed for a medical need? The refrigerators are the exact same for both cases - paid or medical. If there is a medical need, they will guarentee one is available. If one is requested, they will try to honor the request, but if they are out, they are out. To me, it is more than just a 'free' refrigerator - I *need* to have one available and letting them know it is medically necessary gives me a much higher likelyhood of receiving one, imo.

I called POP's reservation call center two days ago because DD can not have milk/products and I must bring/buy soy. I have a doctor's note as well. I told the person the situation. She informed me that medical refrig. are only small enough to store medication and will never be able to store the soy, in which case I MUST PAY for a regular size refrigerator, even WITH the doctor's note. So unless she is giving me the wrong info., which, if she is can someone please tell me and also tell me what to do (please?), the refrig. for medication sound more like a lunch box size.:confused3

You can check for fridge swaps here. You may have to pay $10 total (no matter how long your stay is), or it may be free. Just depends on when in the swap your stay falls.

Just call back and tell them you need a refrigerator for medical reasons - no need to go into all of the details of why. The refrigerator is a dorm sized refrigerator which can hold several quarts of milk at a time. I think a gallon sized container of milk would fit in the main section without a rack.

The picture below is the same size/style as the ones we have always gotten at POP. I have gotten the refrigerator the past 3 trips at POP for medical reasons and the size has been the same each and every time.

As Terry posted, there is only one size refrigerator that I know of. I don't know what that CM was talking about, but you should be fine with it. Just request a frig for medical reasons, don't go into detail, and if it isn't there when you arrive remind them of the request. (We had to remind them.) There was soy milk IN the food court refrigerated cases in a small size as one of the beverage choices, by the way. I suspect it is readily available in other places, as well, but don't know from experience.

I've read on the DIS boards about some of the medical refridgerators being very small (the right size to hold meds, but not food items). However, I have no personal experience with this, and I'm only reporting what I've read.

Perhaps it would be a good idea to post that question on the DISabilities forum? They have lots of great info and helpful people there!

If it's during a busy time maybe all the "medical need" refrigerators have been requested already. I would imagine it's based on a first come-first served basis. Also, needing soy milk would probably not be the same priority as insulin users especially since they sell soy milk in the food court. I hope they have one available for you -- but just in case, you might want to look at either paying for one or coming up with plan "B". Good luck!

The "medical need" refrigerators are the regular dorm sizes refrigerators. If those are not available, the Front Desk will hold any items that need to be refrigerated in an area at the Front Desk.

Since all of the moderates and deluxes have in room refrigerators now (slightly larger), I bet the old ones have all ended up at the values and there are plenty available. I have gotten my refrigerator in January, May and June. No worries. :goodvibes

Has anyone used the Magical Express staying at Pop recently? I met someone over the weekend who worked there last year, and she suggested if I do the ME service, to take our luggage with us because it takes about 4 hours to get it otherwise. We're going in Sept & our flight lands around 10:30 am on a Sat.

Yes, if you use ME it could take 3-4 hours for your luggage to get to your room. Just make sure to pack what you need for the day in carry-on and unpack when you get back to your room.

This was a cause of mass chaos for us when we were staying at POFQ in January. They told us to take it ourselves, however, one of our bags was picked up by ME before we got to baggage claim and we didn't know, so we stood in the lost luggage line and talked to people, etc... and no one knew where it was. Finally, after a LONG wait, they said a ME employee had it and they would send it on a later ME bus. Our flight landed at 8:30pm and we didn't get our bag until 2:00am! The reason we were told to get it ourselves is because we flew Southwest, and they told us that Southwest doesn't allow anyone to handle the bags at baggage claim except the rightful owner. :confused3

We used Magical Express when we were there 3 weeks ago, I flew Southwest and my DD flew Air Tran. We really didn't have any problems. That was a misunderstanding about Southwest and ME. Going to Disney you have no problems, they pick it up just like everyone else's. And at all the resorts it takes 3-4 hours to get your bags to your room. Going to the airport, if you fly SW you have to bring your own luggage to the ME bus and then check it yourself at the airport. With the other airlines (including Air Tran) you check it at the resort ahead of time, get your claim check there, and they take it to the airport for you. That is operated by the airport and not by Disney. You could choose to do it yourself, but there is no real reason to do that. If you pack whatever you need for the day in a carry-on, you shouldn't have a problem. We arrived at 11:30ish, and the luggage was delivered to our rooms sometime that afternoon while we were off at the Magic Kingdom having a great time! We carried prescription medicine and a change of clothes in our carry-on, but that was all.

Yes - we just got home yesterday. We used ME and yes, it did take 4 hours. We packed our swim suits in our carryon's as well as sunscreen so we were prepared.
